International Voom HD channels to continue
By Robert Briel | December 19, 2008
US based Rainbow Media said it will close down domestic operations of its Voom HD operations in January, but will continue with its two international channels, Voom HD and Rush HD.
Rainbow, the programming division of US cable operator Cablevision, operates a bouquet of 15 HD channels. Until May this year, the full offer was being carried on the DISH satellite platform, but the DTH operator dropped the channels. This resulted in a legal battle, which is still going on. At the moment, Cablvision is the only platform that carries the HD multiplex.
According to US trade publication Multichannel News Rainbow CEO Joshua Sapan blamed Dish Network’s decision to drop Voom as the reason for the closure of the channels.
Worldwide, there are two HD channels available from Rainbow, the showcase channel Voom HD and the extreme sports channel Rush HD (also available in SD).
