The contract on manufacture Astra 1M has received European concern EADS Astrium from company SES-Astra in July, 2005.


The satellite is constructed on platform Eurostar E3000 and bears 36 transponder. The starting weight of a space vehicle - 5 300 kgs, it will work in a geostationary orbit within 15 years, rendering service of television services, TV of high clearness (HDTV) and communications for users of the Europe, Northern Africa and the Near East.

Scheduled for launch into 19.2° East in 2008, Astra 1M will provide a full range of television broadcasting services, including HDTV and other advanced audiovisual as well as broadband services with a pan-European coverage. Astrium is prime contractor, responsible for the design and build of the spacecraft and the supply of both the payload and the Eurostar E3000 platform.
Astra 1M will carry 36 transponders covering the Ku FSS and BSS frequency bands. It will have a launch mass of 5,300 kg, a solar array span of 35 metres once deployed in orbit, and spacecraft power of 10 kW at end of its planned 15-year service life.

Baikonur. On September, 24th. " Kazakhstan Today " - To Baikonur the booster rocket (РН) the "Proton-th", intended for start of telecommunication satellite Astra-1M is delivered, the correspondent of agency referring to a source at the cosmodrome transfers.

The booster rocket "Proton-th" with auxiliaries has been sent by railway transportation from the situated near Moscow Center of a name of M.on September, 17th and in the morning on September, 24th has arrived on station -there.

Necessary procedures of customs registration then cars with blocks of a booster rocket and auxiliaries will be transported on branch line in the case of a platform 92 where assembly of steps of a booster rocket and preparation of a rocket for start will be made are now spent.

Start of a booster rocket "Proton-th" with European telecommunication satellite Astra-1M is planned to execute in the end of October, 2008.

Satellite Astra-1M is made by European concern EADS Astrium under the order companies SES Astra (Luxembourg).

The space vehicle in weight more than 6 tons is equipped 36 transponder and intended for granting telecommunication services, signals of TV in format HDTV. Satellite Astra-1M is calculated on 15 years of active work in a geostationary orbit.
