Ubisoft Axes Planned Assassin's Creed Shadows Year 2 DLC
It's no secret that Assassin's Creed Shadows has not been Ubisoft's smoothest game launch, with multiple delays and controversies surrounding the game even before launch. Despite eventually launching reasonably successfully, replete with day-zero Steam Deck support and free post-launch content, it looks like Ubisoft is backing down from some of its more ambitious content plans, according to comments by the game's post-launch director, Simon Lemay Comtois in an interview with JorRaptor on YouTube. The biggest shift away from the game's original plans is the cancellation of the second DLC that was meant to introduce a whack of fresh content in the second year of the game's post-launch development life cycle.
Originally, Assassin's Creed Shadows was meant to receive two DLCs on the same scale as Claws of Awaji, although not much was revealed about the scope of the second update or when it was planned to launch, other than that it was planned as a year two DLC that would otherwise have launched as a season pass. The director goes on to say that the support and development plan for year two of Assassin's Creed Shadows will change from being "quick and reactive" to more "chunky" updates that "shake things up a little more." These comments come the same week that Shadows received a substantial update featuring an Attack on Titan collaboration, a new story quest, and a whole bunch of quality-of-life and stability fixes.
