Thumbs up Sergmann Breaches the 13000 MT/s Barrier with DDR5-13010 Memory OC Rec

Professional overclocker Sergmann breached the 13000 MT/s memory overclock barrier with a DDR5-13010 record as memory speeds begin to look increasingly like zip codes. In an HWBOT submission, Sergmann details his 6504.9 MHz memory clock (13010 MT/s DDR) achieved using a single stick of 24 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 that's part of the 48 GB CMK48GX5M2X8000C38 dual channel kit (stock DDR5-8000 with CL38)—a model that we're beginning to see a lot in memory OC leaderboards off late. The 6504.9 MHz memory speed is backed by timings of 68-127-127-127 CR2T, and a ratio of 3:190.

The memory voltage is not shown, but both the memory and the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor used in the feat were under liquid nitrogen cooling. The motherboard used is a GIGABYTE Z890 AORUS Tachyon Ice, with its optimal 1 DIMM per channel memory topology. The processor is configured with 2P+2E cores, and underclocked to 2054.2 MHz for the P-cores, with an uncore frequency of 821.7 MHz. The HWBOT page can be accessed here.

Thumbs up Samsung Foundry Buys Two ASML High-NA EUV Scanners for $773M

Samsung Foundry is getting a High-NA EUV overhaul with the purchase of additional ASML Twinscan EXE:5200B dual-stage lithography systems, valued at $773 million in total. This investment will secure two of these advanced High-NA EUV machine. Each machine can process over 175 wafers per hour (around 200 at Intel 14A fab) and, under optimal conditions, can handle tens of thousands of 300 mm wafers per month. Samsung plans to install one High-NA EUV scanner this year, likely in the coming weeks, with the second unit scheduled for early 2026. The ASML machine can print transistors as small as 8 nm, which is significantly smaller than the current "2 nm" nodes with a gate pitch of over 40 nm and a metal pitch of 20 nm. The actual size of the transistors differs from the nominal node name.

Samsung Foundry will use these advanced High-NA scanners primarily for logic and SRAM production, with High-NA-powered DRAM expected to follow later. ASML projects that by 2027, it will deliver 56 Low-NA EUV scanners based on current orders and demand. This includes five units for Intel, seven for Samsung, and up to 20 for SK Hynix. According to South Korean media, SK Hynix plans to install 20 Low-NA EUV units over the next two years, focusing on HBM memory and advanced storage solutions. For High-NA, ASML aims to deliver 10 High-NA EUV scanners by 2027, each costing around $380 million. Intel will use these for its 14A node manufacturing, and SK Hynix is expected to incorporate two for its memory operations. To remain competitive, Samsung is also making significant investments.

Thumbs up (PR) ASUSTOR NAS Devices Now PQC Ready

Facing the arrival of the quantum computing era and the potential risks to traditional encryption algorithms, ASUSTOR Inc. has announced that its NAS operating system, ADM 5.1, will fully adopt post-quantum cryptography (PQC) technology approved by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Due to this, ADM will now be officially regarded as PQC Ready. This upgrade will comprehensively enhance the core connection encryption technology to Hybrid TLS, employing the industry standard combination of X25519 and ML-KEM 768 (Kyber) for dual protection. This ensures data security both now and in the future. Users with browsers supporting TLS 1.3 and PQC will be able to connect to ADM 5.1 and subsequent versions without any manual configuration; the system will automatically enable post-quantum encryption connections, achieving seamless security upgrades and delivering a highly protected encryption experience.

Ensuring Long-Term Data Security Against "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" Attacks
Harvest Now, Decrypt Later is an increasingly concerning cybersecurity threat: attackers intercept or steal encrypted data for the purpose of storing it for years or even decades, waiting for quantum computers or other advanced decryption technologies to mature before decryption. This poses a significant risk of data breaches for information that may have been considered secure. This includes, but is not limited to long-term backups, confidential files, intellectual property, medical and financial records, government and corporate communications, stored on NAS devices. By implementing PQC encryption mechanisms, ASUSTOR is proactively defending against future quantum threats, deploying encryption upgrades in advance, and providing users with long-term, reliable data protection.

Thumbs up Windows 11 25H2 October Update Bug Renders Recovery Environment Unusab

It seems like Microsoft has encountered a significant issue with the latest Windows 11 25H2 October update, KB5066835. The company confirmed that this update disrupts mouse and keyboard functionality within the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), making them unresponsive and unusable. As a result, the WinRE feature is completely inoperative. WinRE is a built-in troubleshooting toolkit included with Windows. It's intended to assist users when their computer encounters startup problems or system issues. WinRE activates automatically when Windows crashes or fails to boot properly, but users can also access it manually to utilize various repair tools.

However, with the current problem affecting keyboard and mouse input, WinRE is essentially ineffective. Microsoft stated that "the USB keyboard and mouse continue to work normally within the Windows operating system," and assured users that they are "working to release a solution to resolve this issue in the coming days. More information will be provided when it is available." This is yet another incident related to the recent Windows 11 updates, which have previously caused localhost issues. The list of Windows 11 problems continues to grow as the latest updates are released. Microsoft maintains a Windows 11 version 25H2 known issues and notifications website that provides status updates on the latest problems, including this one.

Thumbs up Intel Foundry Reportedly Secures 18A Order from Microsoft for Maia 3 A

Intel has secured a significant order from Microsoft, putting trust from external customers into Intel Foundry. According to Charlie Demerjian from SemiAccurate—and shared by X user @Jukanlosreve—Microsoft will manufacture its Maia 3 chip codenamed "Griffin" at Intel Foundry using the 18A or 18A-P process. This 18A-P node improves upon Intel's 18A by incorporating the RibbonFET and PowerVia technologies, offering enhanced performance and energy efficiency. Compare to the regular 18A node, improvements include newly designed low-threshold voltage components, optimized elements to reduce leakage, and refined ribbon width specifications, all aimed at boosting performance-per-watt metrics. This is particularly important for AI accelerators used in data centers, which require high efficiency due to the large number of units involved.

Microsoft could relocate the production of future Maia accelerators, following Maia 3, to Intel Foundry. If the Maia 3 project is successful, they plan to continue with Intel's more advanced nodes. As a reminder, Microsoft's first-generation Maia 100 chips were produced using TSMC's N5 process with CoWoS-S interposer technology. These chips feature an 820 mm² die size and operate at a 500 W TDP, with a maximum design power of 700 W. They include 64 GB of HBM2E memory providing 1.8 TB/s bandwidth and 500 MB of L1/L2 cache. The chips achieve peak tensor performance of 3 PetaOPS at 6-bit precision, 1.5 PetaOPS at 9-bit, and 0.8 PetaFLOPS for BF16. Connectivity options include 600 GB/s backend network bandwidth via twelve 400GbE ports and 32 GB/s host bandwidth through PCIe Gen 5 x8.

Update October 18, 17:30 UTC: Charlie Demerjian confirmed that the name of the chip is actually a third generation Maia 3 accelerator codenamed "Griffin."
