Thumbs up Intel Releases Arc GPU Graphics Drivers 101.6077 Beta

Today Intel released its latest Arc GPU graphics drivers, with version 101.6077 beta hitting our servers. This latest version brings game-ready support for titles like Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, Final Fantasy XVI, Frostpunk 2, and God of War Ragnarok. Besides adding support for latest titles, the 101.6077 beta drivers also fixed issues like corruption on certain reflective surfaces during gameplay of The Last of Us Part I (DX12), and corrupted lines on certain textures during gameplay of Age of Empires IV (DX12). Interestingly, few issues persist like Diablo IV (DX12) intermittently crashing while toggling Ray Tracing settings during gameplay, and Doom Eternal (VK) exhibiting intermittent flickering corruption in the game menu and during gameplay. Few more notes are included in the changelog and known issues, which can be seen below.

Thumbs up Intel Core Ultra 200 Series "Arrow Lake" to Support 10,000 MT/s DDR5

According to the latest leak on the Chinese platform Weibo, Intel's upcoming Core Ultra 200 "Arrow Lake" desktop CPUs could potentially reach between 8,000 to 10,000 MT/s DDR5 speeds. To put this in perspective, Intel's current Raptor Lake Refresh processors struggle to reach 8200 MT/s, even with the best memory kits. It's also a big step up from the rival AMD, whose 9000 series chips usually peak around 6400 MT/s. CUDIMM technology, introduced earlier this year, incorporates a clock driver that regenerates the clock signal, enhancing stability and allowing for higher memory frequencies. Hence, the newest DIMMs are able to push to much higher MT/s with emerging platforms like Arrow Lake.

While it remains to be seen whether Arrow Lake CPUs will support 10,000 MT/s memory speeds immediately upon release, the trajectory of development suggests that such speeds are achievable shortly. Memory manufacturer Asgard recently unveiled CUDIMM modules humming along at 9600 MT/s, hinting at the potential. Motherboard makers aren't sitting idle, either. Leaked specs for ASRock's upcoming Z890 Taichi board tease support for memory speeds up to 9200 MT/s in specific configurations - a 2000 MT/s increase from its predecessor.

Thumbs up Diablo IV Reaches $1 Billion Milestone, Microtransactions Falling Belo

Diablo IV received some severe backlash over microtransactions when it launched back in 2023, with some bundles even costing more than the $69.99 base game. It appears, however, that its microtransaction-laden monetization strategy has paid off, according to an accidental leak on LinkedIn from senior product manager, Harrison Froeschke.

According to the now-deleted LinkedIn profile update, Diablo IV has managed to generate a total of $1 billion in total revenue since it launched, with $150 million of that coming from microtransactions and in-game purchases. Perhaps more interestingly, though, is the fact that this is unusually low for an Activision-Blizzard game.

Thumbs up Zotac Intros its GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6 Twin Edge Series

Zotac earlier this week introduced its GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6 custom-design graphics cards. There are four models in all, based on the company's Twin Edge board design. Two of these are come in the standard black, while the other two are white. Within these, there are regular Twin Edge models that stick to NVIDIA reference clock speeds, while the Twin Edge OC variants come with minor factory overclocked speeds. The highlight here is the memory type. NVIDIA sneaked out variants of the GeForce RTX 4070 with 20 Gbps GDDR6 memory replacing the 21 Gbps GDDR6X that's standard to the RTX 4070.

The Twin Edge board design by Zotac features an aluminium fin-stack heatsink dubbed IceStorm 2.0, which is ventilated by two fans. The regular variants come with a GPU boost frequency of 2475 MHz, while the Twin Edge OC variants come with 2490 MHz GPU boost. Both variants have their GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gbps. The Twin Edge White cards see their cooler shrouds, backplates, and fan impellers don white. All four cards come with some RGB lighting, in the form of a stylized Zotac Gaming graphic on top of the card. VideoCardz reports that these cards are on average $10 cheaper than regular Zotac RTX 4070 Twin Edge series cards.

Thumbs up Neuralink Gets FDA Go-ahead for Developing Device that Lets Blind-from

Neuralink, the company founded by Elon Musk that's working on brain user interfaces, announced that it received US-FDA device designation for a neural implant that lets visually impaired people see. Neuralink is calling this device "Blindsight." This paves the way for the public to participate in the development of the device. The device lets those with full vision loss, including damaged optic nerves, to see, provided that the brain's visual cortex is intact. Commenting on the development, Musk set expectations for what the very first version of the device is capable of—it interfaces with the visual cortex, and lets visually impaired people, including those that have been blind from birth, see for the first time, however, this vision is of low resolution—resembling "Atari graphics," as Musk puts it. It's what he said next that is raising eyebrows.

If Neuralink succeeds in building and deploying the first generation of "Blindsight," Musk says that future generations of the device will only grow in resolution, and acquire capabilities such as seeing the electromagnetic spectrum beyond natural human perception, such as infrared, ultraviolet, and even radar waves—something Geordi La Forge, the chief engineer of the USS Enterprise in the cult sci-fi show "Star Trek: The Next Generation" does, with his device called simply "the visor."
