According to TrendForce research, as output from Kioxia and WDC grows month by month, it has become obvious that production capacity is sufficient to meet increased bit demand. However, post-pandemic demand for consumer electronics such as laptops will no longer lead to flagging orders. Coupled with slow destocking among Chinese smartphone brands due to the pandemic and rising inflation, these factors will lead to oversupply in the 3Q22 NAND Flash market, in turn affecting a price drop of 0~5% in 3Q22.

In terms of Client SSD, although a backstop for business notebook orders remains, demand for consumer notebook and Chromebook orders lags behind 2021, especially as PC brands stock more conservatively. Their intention to actively reduce inventory is obvious and the volume of orders in peak season may fall behind last year. However, as SSD production capacity gradually returns to normal, supply of client SSDs continues to increase. In addition, shipments of Kioxia and WDC products been delivered in succession. In order to avoid a sharp increase in inventory, the supply side is willing to let prices spike. Client SSD pricing is expected to reverse direction and move downwards approximately 3-8% in 3Q22.

Micron Launches 1.5 TB microSD Card With Five Year 24/7 Endurance Rating
This week Embedded World 2022 is taking place in Nuremberg in Germany and Micron decided to launch its new i400-series of microSD cards at the show. Normally microSD cards aren't worth a writeup, but in this case there are at least two noticeable features that makes Micron's i400-series of cards stand out. First is the fact that the i400 cards come in sizes from 64 MB to 1.5 TB, which is the largest size microSD card in the market to date. This is according to Micron, enough storage space for up to four months of continuously recorded video from a security camera, albeit at unknown resolution.

This brings us to the second noteworthy feature of the i400-series, the endurance rating. Micron claims that the cards will last five years in a 24/7 write scenario, or 2 million hours mean time to failure. The cards are also said to be optimised for sustained performance, even during concurrent 4K video streams being recorded to the cards. That said, Micron doesn't provide any actual performance numbers beyond the fact that all the cards are Class 10, U3 and A2 rated, except possibly the 64 and 128 GB models that are seemingly also U1 rated. All cards are rated to operate from minus 25 degrees to plus 85 degrees celsius. No word on pricing, as the cards aren't intended for retail customers.

Console Gaming Under Water: First Custom PS5 "Slim" Employs PC-like Watercooling System
YouTuber Matt Perks, known as DIY Perks on Google's video-sharing platform, has achieved the title of owning the world's first "PS5 Slim" console... by creating a custom watercooling system that's aimed at keeping the AMD-designed chip in check while rendering some of the most impressive games of this generation. Thanks to the custom watercooling unit, the PS5's usual 4-inch width was reduced to a mere inch - and due to improved operating temperatures, it's likely the hardware will see increased longevity. Barring any catastrophic leakage, of course.

Perks made use of a copper sheet to channel water over the PS5's APU, while also including thermal bridges that distributed the contained water throughout the consoles' SSD and power delivery subsystem. There is a secret to the consoles' slim profile, however, which should also answer one question you're holding on your mind: where, in that single inch frame, did he fit the pump and radiator for the embedded watercooling?
