TechPowerUp today released the latest version of NVCleanstall, our handy, lightweight utility that lets you customize your NVIDIA drivers installation to a much greater degree than the "Custom" install option in the NVIDIA Installer, letting you toggle components and features you didn't even know exist. The latest version 1.10.0 introduces several updates. For starters, it fixes ShadowPlay not working (even though selected), due to a missing reference to NvModuleTracker. We've introduced an additional driver signing mode that's compatible with EasyAntiCheat. NVCleanstall now discards the generated private key once the signature rebuild is complete, for additional security.



We've introduced a feature that lets you create a self-contained EXE installer with the installation options you've selected. The option to disable NVContainer has been introduced, however, this may break GeForce Experience, and removes NVIDIA's Desktop context menu. You can configure MSI (message-signaled-interrupt) CPU selection and priority. NVCleanstall also makes sure MSI only gets activated on NVIDIA GPU devices. An option has been added letting you disable HDCP. The app now warns you that UWP apps can't be installed in Safe Mode, if you request the Control Panel app while running in Safe Mode. The app also warns about installation of GeForce Experience in Safe Mode. Both these limitations are due to Safe Mode, not NVCleanstall. AMD CDNA2 "Aldebaran" MI200 HPC Accelerator with 256 CU (16,384 cores) Imagined
AMD Instinct MI200 will be an important product for the company in the HPC and AI supercomputing market. It debuts the CDNA2 compute architecture, and is based on a multi-chip module (MCM) codenamed "Aldebaran." PC enthusiast Locuza, who conjures highly detailed architecture based on public information, imagined what "Aldebaran" could look like. The MCM contains two logic dies, and eight HBM2E stacks. Each of the two dies has a 4096-bit HBM2E interface, which talks to 64 GB of memory (128 GB per package). A silicon interposer provides microscopic wiring among the ten dies.



Each of the two logic dies, or chiplets, has sixteen shader engines that have 16 compute units (CU), each. The CDNA2 compute unit is capable of full-rate FP64, packed FP32 math, and Matrix Engines V2 (fixed function hardware for matrix multiplication, accelerating DNN building, training, and AI inference). With 128 CUs per chiplet, assuming the CDNA2 CU has 64 stream processors, one arrives at 8,192 SP. Two such dies add up to a whopping 16,384, more than three times that of the "Navi 21" RDNA2 silicon. Each die further features its independent PCIe interface, and XGMI (AMD's rival to CXL), an interconnect designed for high-density HPC scenarios. A rudimentary VCN (Video CoreNext) component is also present. It's important to note here, that the CDNA2 CU, as well as the "Aldebaran" MCM itself, doesn't have a dual-use as a GPU, since it lacks much of the hardware needed for graphics processing. The MI200 is expected to launch later this year.

NVIDIA Working on Ultra Quality Mode for DLSS Upscaling
NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology has been developed to upscale lower resolution using artificial intelligence and deep learning algorithms. By using this technique, users with RTX cards can increase their framerates in supported games, while not losing image quality. Recently, AMD introduces FidelityFX Super Resolution competing technology, which may be technologically better than the DLSS competition. How you might wonder? Well, at the quality setting, NVIDIA's DLSS renders the game at 66.6% of the resolution, upscaling it 1.5 times. At the same quality preset, AMD FSR renders the game at 77% of the resolution and upscales the image by 1.3 times. This is technically providing an advantage to AMD FSR technology, ad the image is posed to look better with less upscaling.



That is what made NVIDIA re-think their options and today we are getting some exciting news regarding DLSS. In the Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) documentation, there is a placeholder for "Ultra Quality" DLSS mode, which is supposed to rival AMD's Quality mode and offer the best possible image quality. Currently, the latest DLSS version is 2.2.6.0, which is present in many DLSS supported games. However, the updated version with the Ultra Quality preset is already present in UE5, under version 2.2.9.0. Mr. Alexander Battaglia from Digital Foundry has made a quick comparison using the two versions, however, we are waiting for more in-depth testing to see the final results.

UK Competition Regulator Greenlights AMD's Xilinx Acquisition
AMD's ambitious acquisition of Xilinx, makers of cutting-edge FPGAs, has been approved by the UK Competition and Markets Authority. This would go down as AMD's biggest tech acquisition, as the company is forking out USD $35 billion in stock. If it goes through, the AMD-Xilinix combine will see current AMD shareholders own 74% of the company, and current Xilinx shareholders with the other 26%. Both companies announced in April 2021 that their shareholders "overwhelmingly" approved of the deal. The Xilinx buyout by AMD isn't too far behind in terms of value, to NVIDIA's ambitious $40 billion bid to acquire Arm Holdings.
