Default CaseLabs is Back in Business Under New Management

For those of you familiar with CaseLabs, the demise of the company in 2018 was most likely a sad time when it comes to the history of PC component manufacturers. However, it appears that the company is back in business, under new management and in a new location. CaseLabs was originally from California in the US, but the new owners have moved the company to Sweden. In fact, the key person is said to be a CaseLabs enthusiast by the name of Emil Rytterstedt who bought the rights to the CaseLabs brand in 2021, as well as what appears to be the rights for all of the products that the original company made. For now, the CaseLabs website is back up and running, but the company isn't selling any products, yet.

Based on the information available on the CaseLabs website, the company will initially offer spare parts for existing CaseLabs products, as well as offer support and customer service through it. This will be followed by at least some of the cases that CaseLabs used to offer, which will see some updates, especially when it comes to the I/O options and some other additions such as vertical GPU brackets. However, the longer term plan is to offer new products under the CaseLabs brand, which will apparently start with a smaller form factor case. All the new products will apparently be made in Sweden, so expect CaseLabs products to remain in the premium price segment. For those in the US, the company has already mentioned that the prices will be more expensive than in the past, due to shipping costs. Expect things to kick off sometime in early 2023 when it comes to actual product availability.

PowerColor Shows Off the Radeon RX 7900 Red Devil on Social Media
Although we're only some three weeks away from the launch of AMD's Radeon RX 7000-series cards, it has been pretty quiet from its partners. That said, PowerColor has finally revealed more than just a tiny detail of its upcoming Radeon RX 7900 Red Devil via a post on Facebook. The company didn't reveal any specs and it's unclear if this will be an RX 7900 XT or an RX 7900 XTX based card.

What we can see from the picture is that it's a triple-slot card with air being vented out the rear, something AMD's reference cards don't do. It's obviously a triple-fan card and PowerColor has equipped it with some LED lights as one would expect. Not much else is revealed by the single picture of the card, due to the angle the card sits at, so we don't know what kind of ports to expect, or what kind of power connectors the card will have. Hopefully PowerColor will reveal more details before the official launch on the 13th of December.

AMD "Zen 4" Based Ryzen Threadripper "Storm Peak" Surfaces with 96-core/192-thread Config
AMD will build "Zen 4" based Ryzen Threadripper processors in an attempt to meet competition from Intel, which is rumored to launch HEDT processors of its own based on "Sapphire Rapids." While Intel's chip tops out at 60-core/120-thread and has a constellation of task-specific hardware-accelerators, AMD will arm its processors with raw CPU core-count, going as high up as 96-core/192-thread. The company has assigned the codename "Storm Peak" for these chips.

The Ryzen Threadripper 7000-series "Storm Peak" processor engineering samples surfaced on the Einstein@Home user database. As many as three OPNs have surfaced, "AMD Eng Sample: 100-000000884-21_N" and "AMD Eng Sample: 100-000000884-20_Y," which are 96-core/192-thread; and the "AMD Eng Sample: 100-000000454-20_Y," which is 64-core/128-thread. "Storm Peak" is likely just a variation of EPYC "Genoa," geared for higher frequencies.

Colorful Releases iGame GeForce RTX 4080 Neptune OC-V Graphics Card with 470W Power Limit and AIO Cooling
Colorful formally released its flagship custom-design graphics card based on the GeForce RTX 4080 "Ada" launched earlier this week, the iGame RTX 4080 Neptune OC-V. This card features a factory-fitted all-in-one (AIO) liquid cooling solution. Unlike some other similar cards, such as the MSI SUPRIM Liquid X, the Neptune OC-V relies on a 100% liquid-cooled configuration, wherein a the cold-plate is the only source of cooling for the GPU, memory, and VRM; there are no additional fans on the card. The cooling solution involves a waterblock that pulls heat from all key components on the PCB, which is connected to a 360 mm x 120 mm radiator that comes with three 120 mm RGB fans.

The card is 25.3 cm in length, strictly 2 slots thick, and 17 cm in height. Silvery aluminium makes up the cooler shroud and backplate. The coolant tubing comes with white Nylon sleeving. The aluminium radiator has a white frame, as do the three fans. The fan impellers are frosted to act like RGB diffusers. The Neptune OC-V comes with factory-overclocked speeds of 2640 MHz GPU Boost (compared to 2505 MHz reference). The most interesting aspect is the power limit, which is now set at 470 W (compared to 320 W reference).

NVIDIA Plans GeForce RTX 4060 Launch for Summer 2023, Performance Rivaling RTX 3070
NVIDIA is reportedly planning to ramp its GeForce "Ada" generation into the high-volume performance segment by Summer 2023, with the introduction of the GeForce RTX 4060. The card is expected to launch somewhere around June, 2023. The card will be based on the 4 nm "AD106" silicon, the 4th chip based on the "Ada Lovelace" graphics architecture. Wolstame. a reliable source with NVIDIA leaks as Lenovo's Legion gaming desktop product manager, predicts that the RTX 4060 performance could end up matching that of the current RTX 3070 at a lower price-point.

This should make it a reasonably fast graphics card for 1440p AAA gaming with high-ultra settings, and ray tracing thrown in. What's interesting is if NVIDIA is expected to extend the DLSS 3 frame-generation feature to even this segment of graphics cards, which means a near-100% frame rate uplift can be had. Other predictions include a board power expected to be in the range of 150-180 W, and a 10% generational price-increase, which would mean that the RTX 4060 would have a launch-price similar to that of the RTX 3060 Ti (USD $399).

(PR) Projected YoY Growth Rate of Server Shipments for 2023 Has Been Revised Down to 2.8% as Inventory Adjustments Continue
Based on the latest data and research, TrendForce has further corrected down the projected YoY growth rate of whole server shipments for 2023 to 2.8%. Three factors are behind this revision. First, lead time has started to return to its usual length for most orders related to server components from 3Q23 onward. Seeing this, server OEMs and cloud service providers (CSPs) have also begun to correct the component mismatch issue by lowering demand for items that are in excess while maintaining a constant inventory level for items that are still in tight supply. This development, in turn, has reduced the flow of server orders going to ODMs. Second, the wave of demand that was generated earlier from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is dissipating. Hence, expansion activities have cooled off noticeably for services such as video streaming, e-commerce, etc. Among CSPs, Meta, Google, and ByteDance (TikTok) have lowered their server procurement quantities for next year. Lastly, the global economic outlook has remained fairly negative, so companies across most industry sectors have formulated a more conservative expenditure plan and scaled back IT-related spending for next year.

Each of the two included TL-C12B V2 fans takes in 4-pin PWM input, turn at speeds of up to 1,500 RPM, pushing up to 66.17 CFM of airflow, at 1.53 mm H₂O static pressure, and a maximum noise output of 25.6 dBA. The fans feature fluid dynamic bearings. With the fans installed, the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE measures 130 mm x 125 mm x 154 mm (LxWxH), weighing 1.03 kg. Among the CPU socket types supported are LGA1700, AM5, AM4, and LGA1200. The company didn't reveal pricing.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with GDDR6X to Replace Standard Model with GDDR6
NVIDIA recently updated its product stack with an 8 GB 128-bit GDDR6 variant of the GeForce RTX 3060 (originally 12 GB 192-bit GDDR6), and the RTX 3060 Ti with faster 19 Gbps 256-bit GDDR6X memory (originally 14 Gbps 256-bit GDDR6). We're getting to learn that the new RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X variant is designed to replace the older GDDR6 variant. NVIDIA's add-in card (AIC) partners are reportedly winding down orders of the original RTX 3060 Ti in favor of the newer GDDR6X variant. Perhaps the most striking aspect of the GDDR6X variant isn't that its memory bandwidth is 35% higher than that of the original RTX 3060 Ti; but that it sells at the same price.

The new GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X is based on the 8 nm "GA104" silicon, and has the same core-configuration as the original RTX 3060 Ti, with 4,864 CUDA cores, 152 Tensor cores, 38 RT cores, 152 TMUs, and 80 ROPs; the same GPU boost frequency of 1665 MHz, and interestingly, the same typical board power of 200 W. What's changed is the switch to 19 Gbps GDDR6X memory compared to the original's 14 Gbps GDDR6, which results in a memory bandwidth of 608 GB/s, compared to the original's 448 GB/s.

Default TSMC's Morris Chang Says Arizona Fab Will Produce 3 nm Chips in the Fu

Although Morris Chang is no longer in charge of the day to day business at TSMC, the founder of the company is still getting his hands dirty. Chang attended the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting last week, as part of Taiwan's delegation and was questioned by the media about TSMC's future plans. The specific question was about TSMC's Arizona fab, which will initially produce chips using a 5 nm node. The US$12 billion plant is scheduled to kick off production at some point in 2024, by which time the 5 nm node should be a commonly used node rather than close to cutting edge.

When questioned about the future of the Arizona fab, Morris Chang answered that it will be moving to a 3 nm node, which is currently TSMC's most cutting edge node, that has gone into volume production earlier this year with th N3 node, which is set to be followed by the N3E node. According to Chang, there's interest by several countries to have TSMC set up fabs there, but apparently this is not something TSMC is considering at the moment. One potential reason for this would be a suitable labour force, something that has already proven to be tough for the Arizona fab.

LG Launches the UltraGear OLED With 240 Hz Refresh Rate
The first flat OLED gaming monitor is here and it's unsurprisingly from LG and part of its UltraGear range of gaming products. Although it's being touted as a 27-inch display, the screen size is only 26.5-inches, which is a bit unusual. The resolution is 2560 x 1440, with a pixel pitch of 110.8 PPI and the refresh rate goes up to 240 Hz. The OLED panel is capable of delivering 1.07 billion colours and delivers a colour gamut of 98.5 percent of the DCI-P3 standard. LG claims the display has a GtG response time of 0.03 ms which is so far unheard of on a consumer display. LG doesn't supply a brightness rating, nor does the UltraGear OLED appear to have any kind of HDR certification, but supports HDR10, although considering it's an OLED panel, this shouldn't be much of a concern.

There's support for FreeSync Premium and VRR, with the display being G-Sync compatible as well. Other gaming related features include the typical things you'd find on most gaming displays today, such as an FPS counter, a built in crosshair and of course some RGB lighting features. Connectivity wise the UltraGear OLED comes with two unspecified HDMI ports and one unspecified DisplayPort input, as well as one upstreams USB 3.0 port (Type-B) and two downstreams USB 3.0 ports (Type-A). The monitor also has an S/PDIF out and a headset jack, which suggests that it does audio over USB. Finally there's a barrel plug for the 19 V power brick. The display also has support for DTS HP:X where HP stands for headphones, but there are no built in speakers. The stand supports tilt, height, swivel and pivot adjustments and can be adjusted up to 11 cm in height. LG is asking US$999.99 for the UltraGear OLED, which might be a bit more than what most people would be willing to pay for it, but it's at least a first step towards a range of new OLED gaming monitors.

AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Processors Get their First Round of Price Cuts, 7950X at $574
AMD Ryzen 7000-series "Zen 4" desktop processors got their first round of price-cuts on leading retailer Newegg, as the company has a hard time justifying their launch-prices in the wake of Intel's 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" and declining demand in the PC components market. The new pricing sees the top Ryzen 9 7950X 16-core/32-thread chip priced at USD $574, down from $700 (an 18% price-cut). The 12-core/24-thread Ryzen 9 7900X sees its price go down from $550 to $474 (down 14%).

The 8-core/16-thread Ryzen 7 7700X gets a $50 price-cut sending its price down from $400 to roughly $350. The 6-core/12-thread Ryzen 5 7600X gets a similar $50 cut, which means the chip can now be had for roughly $250, down from its $300 launch price. All four SKUs face stiff competition from the aggressively priced 13th Gen Core SKUs, which include the i9-13900K, the i7-13700K, and the i5-13600K. Prices of Socket AM5 motherboards are another big put-off as they're a major contributor to platform costs, which is restricted to DDR5 memory. The Intel platform currently includes entry-level chipset options, as well as motherboards with DDR4 support.

Default (PR) ENDORFY Presents the New Regnum 400 Air and Regnum 400 ARGB Cases

ENDORFY, the European manufacturer of CPU coolers, power supplies, PC cases and lifestyle products, announces two brand-new Regnum 400 PC Cases which focus on high airflow and clean appearance. The Regnum 400 Air aims for ultimate cooling and comes with four pre-installed Stratus 120 PWM case fans, while the Regnum 400 ARGB is using four ARGB-enabled Stratus 120 PWM fans. With the new series users can build systems that not just look cool but are well equipped to cool latest hardware. Up to 8 fans can be installed in the Regnum 400 Air and Regnum 400 ARGB to further maximize the cooling capacity. Thanks to the big tempered-glass side-panel, users get a great view on the components and the ARGB backlit core of the system in case of the Regnum 400 ARGB version.

With the new Regnum 400 series, users won't have to worry about system overheating. Four pre-installed Stratus 120 PWM fans are forming the basis for solid cooling. Three of the fans are located in the front and the fourth in the back of the chassis. This allows for an inaudible steady flow or performance driven airflow when needed. These quiet heroes run on robust fluid dynamic bearings and can be controlled through a PWM signal from 1.400 down to 200 RPM. The Regnum 400 series was designed with superb airflow in mind. In order to achieve this, ENDORFY utilizes a huge mesh-front panel and a magnetic mesh dust filter in the top. Additional fans can be installed to further boost the airflow, making the Regnum 400 Air and Regnum 400 ARGB even more versatile.

NVIDIA to Relocate Logistics Center From Hong Kong to Taiwan
According to news out of Taiwan, NVIDIA is getting ready to move its logistics center from Hong Kong to Taiwan. The information comes from Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs, Wang Mei-Hua, so the source should be fairly reliable. The Taiwanese government has apparently been in negotiation with NVIDIA since some time last year and the two have now reached a consensus.

The media report didn't mention where NVIDIA will locate its new logistics center, but the company and the Taiwanese government have been discussing tax subsidies to help facilitate the move. Wang told the local media that the new logistics center should boost the local industry, least not because NVIDIA is already working with TSMC, as well as many other local suppliers and manufacturers. No details were given on when the move would take place, but it's likely to be a transition that will be drawn out, due to the fact that NVIDIA is still going to have to supply all of its customers during the move.

LG Launches 45-inch Ultra Wide OLED Monitor for Gaming
If LG's 27-inch 1440p OLED monitor wasn't your cup of tea, the company has launched a second UltraGear branded gaming OLED monitor with an entirely different form factor. The UltraGear 45GR95QE-B as it's known as, is a 45-inch ultra wide monitor with a 3440 x 1440 pixel resolution, giving it an aspect ratio of 21:9. As with the 27-inch 27GR95QE-B, we're looking at a 240 Hz refresh rate here and the same 0.03 ms GtG response time and the ability to display up to 1.07 billion colours. However, this is where the similarities end, as the 45GR95QE-B's massive panel means that LG made it a curved display and it's very curved at 800R. Due to its enormous size, it has a pixel pitch of a mere 84 PPI, which is very low, especially as a normal pixel pitch for a 3440 x 1440 display is somewhere around 110 PPI on a 34-inch display, which places this closer to a 27-inch 1080p display.

The monitor has two HDMI and one DP input, as well as one upstreams and two downstreams USB 3.0 ports. It also has an S/PDIF out, a headphone jack with DTS HP:X support and a barrel plug for an external 19.5 Volt power brick. LG doesn't provide a typical power consumption, but the power brick can deliver 210 Watts. It also comes with a remote, for changing the settings. Other features include VRR, FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible support. It also has the same gaming features as LG's other UltraGear monitors. The supplied stand supports tilt, height and swivel adjustments. For those considering this massive display, which measures almost a metre wide, make sure your desk can handle the weight, as it comes in at almost 11 kg. LG's asking price for this beast of a monitor isn't for those with a tight budget, as it's a rather steep US$1,699.99.

CD Projekt RED announced an unexpected content update for the now-7 year old "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," an immensely popular AAA game that continues to be a favorite among GPU reviewers and PC enthusiasts. The content update, dubbed simply "Next Gen Update," is expected to go live on December 14, 2022. The free update adds several visual enhancements that would normally be marketed as a "Remastered" title, and sold separately.

To begin with, CDPR has increased texture resolutions, and redesigned the foliage to be more realistic. It gets new real-time ray traced global illumination (RT-GI), which should significantly improve the lighting throughout the game. The game also gets super-sampling performance enhancements, namely NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR 2. Thanks to the higher-resolution assets and RT-GI, the graphics settings now include a new preset called "Ultra+," which maxes out everything, including the new assets. The game's UI now offers more camera perspectives. For next-generation consoles, the update adds a new "Performance" mode that runs it at 60 FPS, and a new "Quality" mode that enables RT-GI along with FSR 2.
The trailer for the new content update follows.

Back then, we speculated about what features Intel would put behind a paywall and although we were somewhat off track, Intel has put some specific "instructions" behind the paywall on the supported Xeon processors. Specifically, some CPUs will have Quick Assist, Dynamic Load Balancer and Data Streaming Accelerator available as an On Demand feature. Additionally, Intel is also putting its Software Guard Extensions and In-Memory Analytics Accelerator behind the same pay wall.

It appears that these features will be offered as-a-service offering from some of Intel's service partners, but there's also a "one-time activation of select CPU accelerators and security features" according to the Intel On Demand website. It's unclear which Xeon SKUs will get Intel On Demand, but according to The Register, it'll be the upcoming Sapphire Rapids based Xeon processors which should be the first parts affected. Intel has listed partners like HP, Lenovo and SuperMicro, among others, that are involved with the Intel On Demand program. It will still be possible to buy next gen Xeon CPUs that are fully feature enabled like today, but it's unclear if the Intel On Demand Xeon SKUs will offer some kind of cost benefits to companies that don't need the additional features that are behind the paywall.

TSMC 3 nm Wafer Pricing to Reach $20,000; Next-Gen CPUs/GPUs to be More Expensive
Semiconductor manufacturing is a significant investment that requires long lead times and constant improvement. According to the latest DigiTimes report, the pricing of a 3 nm wafer is expected to reach $20,000, which is a 25% increase in price over a 5 nm wafer. For 7 nm, TSMC managed to produce it for "just" $10,000; for 5 nm, it costs the company to make it for the $16,000 mark. And finally, the latest and greatest technology will get an even higher price point at $20,000, a new record in wafer pricing. Since TSMC has a proven track record of delivering constant innovation, clients are expected to remain on the latest tech purchasing spree.

Companies like Apple, AMD, and NVIDIA are known for securing orders for the latest semiconductor manufacturing node capacities. With a 25% increase in wafer pricing, we can expect the next-generation hardware to be even more expensive. Chip manufacturing price is a significant price-determining factor for many products, so the 3 nm edition of CPUs, GPUs, etc., will get the highest difference.

(PR) Global NAND Flash Revenue Fell by 24.3% QoQ for 3Q22 as Suppliers Made Large Price Concessions That in Turn Impacted Their Results
Market intelligence firm TrendForce reports that the whole NAND Flash market was severely weakened by plummeting demand in 3Q22. Because shipments of end products including consumer electronics and servers had been below expectations, the overall NAND ASP fell by 18.3% QoQ. Furthermore, the general economic outlook remained pessimistic, so enterprises across many sectors started to scale back their capital expenditure plans and halted the momentum of their procurement activities. Due to this development, the problem of excess inventory eventually spread to NAND Flash suppliers. The pressure on suppliers to make sales was ratcheted up dramatically. According to TrendForce's investigation, NAND Flash bit shipments fell by 6.7% QoQ for 3Q22, and the overall NAND Flash ASP also kept sliding. On account of the unfavorable market situation, the NAND Flash industry recorded a total revenue of around US$13.71 billion for 3Q22. The QoQ revenue decline reached as much as 24.3%.

The ranking of NAND Flash suppliers by revenue saw two notable changes for 3Q22. First, SK Group moved down to third place as it suffered the largest revenue drop among suppliers. Its revenue slipped by 29.8% QoQ to US$2.54 billion mainly due to the significant deterioration of the demand for PCs and smartphones. Its subsidiary Solidigm was also affected by the slowdown in server procurements. Previously, servers had a fairly stable demand situation compared with other kinds of end products. However, server demand eventually buckled in 3Q22 as result of enterprises cutting capital expenditure and undergoing a period of inventory correction. Compared with 2Q22, SK Group (that encompasses SK hynix and Solidigm) posted a drop of 11.1% in bit shipments and an even steeper decline of more than 20% in ASP.

Non-reference AMD Radeon RX 7900 Series RDNA3 to Launch by Late-December
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT RDNA3 graphics cards debut on December 13, 2022. This is when you will be able to buy one, at an MSRP of $999 for the RX 7900 XTX, and $899 for the RX 7900 XT. These will, however, only be reference-design MBA (made by AMD) graphics cards sold though the company's various add-in board (AIB) partners. The non-reference (custom design) RX 7900 series reportedly releases to the market 1 to 2 weeks after December 13, according to a Board Channels report seen by Wccftech.

Unlike the NVIDIA Founders Edition graphics card that's sold exclusively under the NVIDIA marquee, AMD's reference-design cards are sold by its AIB partners, with minimal or nil partner branding on the cards. The after-sales support, including product warranties and other brand-specific inclusions, are handled by the AIBs themselves. Custom-design cards are those designed by the AIB partners, with customization extending to both the cooling solution and the PCB; and with some cards even featuring factory-overclocked speeds. These are the ones that could launch 1 to 2 weeks after December 13, which would put their launch anywhere between December 20 to 27 (our yikes go out to reviewers).

Default MSI Afterburner Laced with Malware Circulating in the Wild

MSI Afterburner is arguably the most popular graphics card overclocking utility, and the best place to find it is the MSI website. There are several other sites that redistribute the utility, many of them are trustworthy PC enthusiast tech publications; but some of them are not. There are some dubious websites that are using SEO techniques and ad-placements to find their way into online search results, appearing to be download mirrors for MSI Afterburner. While some of these sites are just in it for some web-traffic ad revenue, others downright spoof the MSI website (i.e. are visual clones), and host redistributables of Afterburner, only these have a more sinister motive—to infect you with malware.

Cybersecurity researchers at Cyble identified such spoof websites that are visually identical to the MSI website; which host modified versions of the Afterburner software laced with malware. This malware can infect your PC with a multitude of bad stuff, including cryptojacking (using your PC's system resources to mine cryptocurrency for the attacker); and data-theft. Cyble deconstructed the malware-laced Afterburner installer in a bid to identify its nature. Apparently it uses Monero XMR miner software to mine cryptocurrency. Apparently the attacker repackaged Afterburner into a custom installer that, in addition to installing Afterburner, fetches XMR miner from the Internet and infects Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) with a cryptojacking payload. The easiest way to avoid this is sticking to known sources such as the MSI website (www.msi.com); or known websites authorized to redistribute Afterburner. If infected, SFC (system file checker), coupled with Windows Defender or other popular antivirus software should help.

This is yet another massive OLED display that supports 240 Hz refresh rate, but beyond that, the company didn't share any real details of the display. The company has apparently already won a CES 2023 innovation award for the monitor, although we couldn't find any details about it on the CES website. MSI will apparently reveal the full details of the display at CES in January, so we're going to have to wait until then for the full details.

Despite its enormous size, it has a pixel pitch of a mere 84 PPI, which is very low, especially as a normal pixel pitch for a 3440 x 1440 display is somewhere around 110 PPI on a 34-inch display, which places this closer to a 27-inch 1080p display.

Compared with 2Q22, SK Group (that encompasses SK hynix and Solidigm) posted a drop of 11.1% in bit shipments and an even steeper decline of more than 20% in ASP.

(PR) Notebook Panel Shipments in October Dropped to a Decade Low for That Month and Will Remain in a Slump in 4Q22
TrendForce's latest research finds that shipments of display panels used in notebook computers (NB panels) came to 13.5 million pieces (pcs) in this October, showing a MoM drop of 16.1% and a YoY drop of 45.0%. Based on TrendForce's tracking of NB panel shipments, this figure is a 10-year low for the month of October. Moving into 4Q22, TrendForce expects NB panel shipments to remain in a slump because of uncertainties in the global economy and inventory adjustments that are taking place across the entire supply chain. Fourth-quarter shipment figure is now estimated around 41.7 million pcs, reflecting a QoQ drop of 10.8% and a YoY drop of 45.9%.

TrendForce points out that from a historical perspective, this latest decline in NB panel shipments is part of the wider, multi-year cycle for global manufacturing. The cycle first begins with strong demand causing shortages and price hikes. Then, supply outpaces demand, thus leading to falling prices and inventory corrections. Looking back to 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic was at its height, the surging demand for notebook computers (NBs) caused a panel shortage. Then, even as more panel supply was released, NB brands continued to stock up due to worries about potential shortages of the key components. They allowed their panel inventories to keep climbing. Fast-forward to the recent period, the pandemic has eased, so the supply situation has improved as well. Furthermore, the demand and windfall associated with the effects of the pandemic have also subsided. What follows now is a series of large inventory corrections in the panel market, the kind of which is rarely seen on record in terms of the overall scale.

Intel Core i9-13900KS 6 GHz Processor MSRP 22% Higher Than i9-13900K: Retailer
Intel's upcoming Core i9-13900KS flagship processor is expected to be an estimated 22% pricier than the i9-13900K, suggests a Canadian retailer with early placeholder listings for chips that won't be in stock for months from now. The i9-13900KS is expected to be the world's first 6 GHz retail desktop processor, with its maximum boost frequency either at or beyond 6.00 GHz, compared to the 5.80 GHz of the i9-13900K. The chip will be built from the topmost tier bins of the "Raptor Lake-S" silicon. As this point we don't know if it comes with a higher Maximum Turbo Power (MTP) value than the 253 W of the i9-13900K.

Intel is designing the Core i9-13900KS to ward off the threat from AMD's Ryzen 7 7800X3D "Zen 4" processor that incorporates 3D Vertical Cache technology for a significant gaming performance uplift. 3DV cache raised gaming performance of "Zen 3" up to the levels of 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" processors, and the expectation now is that it will similarly raise gaming performance of "Zen 4" to be competitive with that of "Raptor Lake."

EK, the premium liquid cooling gear manufacturer, is introducing the ultimate water cooling solution for Intel Arc A750 and A770 graphics cards. These new Intel GPUs get a premium Vector² water block solution with a passive backplate. The EK-Quantum Vector² ARC A750/A770 are single-package liquid cooling solutions consisting of a Vector² series water block and a black-anodized aluminium backplate. Its aesthetics are dominated by minimalist straight lines and the backplate coming around the side of the GPU to cover the PCB completely.

The Vector² cooling engine combines the jet plate with a 3D-machined Plexi insert to improve flow distribution and thermal performance. This cooling engine is based on an Open Split-Flow cooling engine design, which proved to be a superior solution for GPU water blocks. It is characterized by low hydraulic flow restriction, meaning it can be used with weaker water pumps or pumps running on low-speed settings and still achieve top performance. EK took great care to achieve a symmetrical flow domain by utilizing an internal bridge to secondary components. This was done to ensure the cooling of secondary components without sacrificing flow distribution over the GPU core.

Default NVIDIA to Relocate Logistics Center From Hong Kong to Taiwan

Despite its enormous size, it has a pixel pitch of a mere 84 PPI, which is very low, especially as a normal pixel pitch for a 3440 x 1440 display is somewhere around 110 PPI on a 34-inch display, which places this closer to a 27-inch 1080p display.

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update Adds Higher-res Textures, Ray Traced GI, DLSS and FSR 2

Alleged Apple M2 Max Performance Figures Show Almost 20% Single-Core Improvement
Apple's ongoing pursuit of leading performance in custom silicon packages continues with each new generation of Apple Silicon. Today, we have alleged Geekbench performance figures of the upcoming M2 Max chip, designed for the upcoming Mac devices. Featuring the same configuration with two E-cores and eight P-cores, the chip is rumored to utilize TSMC's 3 nm design. However, that is yet to be confirmed by Apple, so we don't have the exact information. In the GB5 single-thread test, the CPU set a single-core performance target of 1899 points, while the multi-core score was 8737. While last year's M1 Max chips can reach 1787 single-core and 12826 multi-core scores, these configurations are benchmarked in a Mac Studio, which has better cooling and allows for higher clocks to be achieved.

Apples to apples (pun intended) comparison with the M1 Max chip inside of a MacBook Pro version with presumably the same cooling capacity, which gets 1497 single-core and 11506 multi-core score, the new M2 Max chip is 19.4% faster in single-core results. Multi-core improvements should follow, and this M2 Max result should be different from the final product. We await more benchmarks to confirm this performance increase and the correct semiconductor manufacturing node.

(PR) Global Shipments of VR Devices Should Reach 10.35 Million Units in 2023, Says TrendForce
TrendForce estimates that global shipments of VR devices will come to around 8.58 million units for 2022, showing a YoY drop of 5.3%. There are three notable factors behind the decline. First, the ongoing high inflation has been suppressing the consumer demand for end products this year. Second, VR brands have either opted to not release a new product this year or pushed back the schedule for releasing a new product. Lastly, the demand for Meta's Quest devices has been dampened by a significant pricing adjustment. As for 2023, TrendForce forecasts that global shipments of VR devices will bounce back to a total of 10.35 million units and show a YoY growth of 20.6%. New products including the Sony PS VR2 and the Meta Quest 3 are scheduled for release next year, so they are expected to be a significant demand driver.

Meta has been the most aggressive in committing resources into the VR/AR market. However, the effect of its attempt to offer hardware at a low price has been quite disproportionate to its massive investments in related technologies. Due to mounting cost pressure, Meta has adjusted its pricing strategy for Quest devices. The Meta Quest 2, in particular, is now priced at US$1,499, which is more than three times its previous price. On account of this price hike and its relatively short battery life, the Quest Pro will unlikely follow the footsteps of the Quest 2 with respect to maintaining a strong shipment growth momentum. TrendForce estimates that that shipments of the Quest Pro will reach just to the level of 250,000 units for 2022. Meta will have to wait until next year, when the Quest 3 hit the market, to again see a notable positive growth in its shipments of VR devices. TrendForce currently forecasts that Meta's shipments for 2023 will total around 7.25 million units.

NVIDIA 4nm AD104 "Ada" Silicon Pictured, Half the Die-area of AD102
Here's the first picture of the 4 nm "AD104" silicon powering what would have been the $900 GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB, and upcoming RTX 4070-series graphics cards. The third largest GPU based on the "Ada Lovelace" graphics architecture, the AD104 looks tiny. This is because it has roughly half the die-area of the AD102, estimated to be around 295 mm² (compared to 608 mm² of the AD102), which means its transistor count should be less than half, with older reports pinpointing it to 35.8 billion. The RTX 4080 12 GB was supposed to max out the AD104 silicon, enabling all 60 streaming multiprocessors (SM) physically present.

The AD104 with 60 SM hence has 7,680 CUDA cores, 60 RT cores, 240 Tensor cores, 240 TMUs, and 80 ROPs. NVIDIA has generationally narrowed the memory interface (compared to the GA104 and TU104), down to 192-bit GDDR6X. Its predecessors such as the GA104 feature 256-bit wide memory interfaces. NVIDIA is overcoming the memory bus width "deficit" by giving SKUs based on the silicon higher memory speeds (21 Gbps or more); and architecture-level improvements such as larger on-die caches. NVIDIA is reportedly planning to launch an AD104-based SKU early January 2023. VideoCardz reports that could be the RTX 4070 Ti, a re-branding of the RTX 4080 12 GB.

NVIDIA Gives RTX A6000 "Ada" Professional Graphics a Quiet Launch, Starting $7377
NVIDIA is ready to launch its RTX A6000 series "Ada" professional-visualization graphics cards. These cards are targeted at the same market demographic as the NVIDIA Quadro series of the old—serious 3D content creation. The RTX A6000 leads the pack, and is based on the 4 nm "AD102" silicon (the same one powering the GeForce RTX 4090). The A6000 is better endowed than the RTX 4090 at the silicon-level, although operating at lower GPU clock-speeds, for its tighter 300 W power-limit (compared to 450 W of the RTX 4090).

The A6000 "Ada" is endowed with 18,176 CUDA cores across 142 SM, compared to the 16,384 CUDA cores across 128 SM of the RTX 4090. It also gets a higher number of Tensor cores, at 568. The defining differentiator between the A6000 and RTX 4090 has to be memory, with the pro-vis card getting 48 GB of ECC GDDR6 memory across the chip's 384-bit memory bus, clocked at 20 Gbps (960 GB/s memory bandwidth); compared to the 24 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X (1008 GB/s) of the RTX 4090. Also, the card enables all three NVDEC and NVENC video hardware-accelerators physically present on the AD102, for six independent accelerated transcoding streams.
