(PR) TrendForce: YoY Growth Rate of Global Server Shipments for 2023 Has Been Lowered to 1.31%
The four major North American cloud service providers (CSPs) have made cuts to their server procurement quantities for this year because of economic headwinds and high inflation. Turning to server OEMs such as Dell and HPE, they are observed to have scaled back the production of server motherboards at their ODM partners. Given these developments, TrendForce now projects that global server shipments will grow by just 1.31% YoY to 14.43 million units for 2023. This latest figure is a downward correction from the earlier estimation. The revisions that server OEMs have made to their outlooks on shipments shows that the demand for end products has become much weaker than expected. They also highlight factors such as buyers of enterprise servers imposing a stricter control of their budgets and server OEMs' inventory corrections.

Default Intel Releases Windows Workaround and Patch for Ethernet Stuttering an

At the end of January, we reported on issues with Intel's i226-V 2.5 Gbps Ethernet controllers, which are used on a wide range of motherboards with both Intel and AMD CPUs, where users were having issues with stuttering and connections dropping. Intel has now released a workaround and a patch for the issue, not only for the i226, but also the i225 and the Killer E3100 2.5 Gbps network controller. What the workaround does, is disable the Energy-Efficient Ethernet mode, or EEE as it's also known as. EEE is only supposed to kick in when an Ethernet connection is idle and it's said to reduce power consumption by up to 50 percent.

However, in this case, it seems like EEE kicks in even when the Ethernet connection is active, which is causing the stuttering and connection dropouts. The patch disables EEE for all speeds above 100 Mbps, but it's also possible to disable EEE manually in the device settings in Windows. MSI is the first motherboard manufacturer to have released an updated driver on its site, but as this isn't a final solution to the problem, it's unlikely that this is the last we'll hear about the issue. Intel is apparently working on finding the root cause of the problem, but it's unclear if it's going to be possible to patch it in software or if a hardware revision is going to be required in the end.

Update Mar 4th: User @lovingbenji reports that on his system this new driver version does not fix the disconnect issue.

LG Display Claims Samsung's QD OLED More Susceptible to Screen Burn Than LG's WOLED
Welcome to the battle of the Korean OLED display makers, where LG Display is now claiming that Samsung's new-ish QD OLED displays are far more susceptible to screen burn, compared to its own WOLED displays. In a way, this is LG getting back at Samsung, as the latter has criticised LG for quite some time, over screen burn on its OLED displays, despite the fact that Samsung hasn't had any of its own OLED products until last year. LG Display is basing much of its claims on testing by Rtings, which isn't yet publicly available, but the company also has a technical explanation behind it all.

Both LG's and Samsung's OLED panels are based around RGB subpixels, just like most LCD panels, with the difference being that OLED panels don't have a backlight, as the pixels themselves are supposed to emit the light. However, RGB subpixels on larger screens tend to lack in brightness and this is why LG added white subpixels to its WOLED panels, which was also a source of criticism from Samsung. However, Samsung's QD OLED displays use a blue OLED layer behind a Quantum Dot layer, which is meant to produce a brighter image than LG's WOLED panels. LG now claims that because Samsung went down the path of using pure RGB subpixels, each subpixel is subjected to a lot more stress on static images than its own WOLED design, which in turn causes screen burn. LG Display did apparently not go into much more details than that at the online press conference the company had called last week, so we'll have to wait and see what Rtings reveals in its next update on its long term testing, which is supposed to take place sometime this month.

Update Mar 3rd 15:08 UTC: Rtings reached out to us and explained that they didn't provide any data to LG Display. Instead, LG Display based its assumptions on photos posted by Rtings on its website. Rtings provided the following statement:
We didn't send any information to LG Display. We published our two-month data and pictures in two waves on February 6th and 16th. It appears LG took these images from our reviews when they were released publicly.

Further to that point, LG Display also did not reach out to us prior to their press call where they referenced our test and images.

300 TB SSDs Could Arrive as Soon as 2026, Claims Pure Storage
Pure Storage, a maker of various storage solutions and custom enterprise-grade SSDs, claims the company will produce SSDs with up to 300 TBs of capacity by 2026. In an interview with Pure Storage CTO Alex McMullan, Blocks & Files got exclusive information that the company targets SSD capacities of up to 300 TBs in 2026. Pure Storage creates proprietary Direct Flash Modules (DFM) SSDs which use 3D NAND chips controlled by a custom SSD controller, are used in the FlashArray systems, and run on a custom FlashBlade operating system. This level of customization allows Pure Storage to create SSD drives with remarkable capacities in the future as the 3D NAND technology advances.

In the coming years, 3D NAND flash manufacturers will switch from the current 200-layer chips to the 400/500-layer chips, driving storage density to new highs. As manufacturers update their technology, so does Pure with its DFM cards that use regular U.2 NVMe connectors in a custom ruler-style format made explicitly for Pure FlashArray systems. Compared to upcoming HDDs that Toshiba and Seagate will use, Pure Storage DFM SSDs will have much higher capacities and read/write speeds, especially as higher-density 3D NAND arrives. You can see the comparison of Pure's estimates for the future 300 TB SSDs with future HDD technology.

SK Hynix Enters Partner Verification Process of its 5th Gen 1β DRAM
Although DRAM is using much less refined production processes compared to the latest processors and GPUs, all the major manufacturers are continuing to shrink their manufacturing nodes step by step. Part of the reason for this, is that a node shrink doesn't have the same improvements for DRAM as it does for most types of field-effect transistors or FETs, which are mostly used for making processor logic of some kind. SK Hynix is now said to have entered the partner verification process of its 5th gen 1β DRAM, to make sure its latest 1x nm DRAM is compatible with major applications. In SK Hynix's case this should roughly translate to a 12 nm process node.

According to Chosun Media in Korea, Intel will take part in this verification, with Intel having finished verification of SK Hynix's 4th gen 1α DRAM for its 4th gen Xeon Scalable processor. Initially, SK Hynix's 5th gen 1β DRAM will be targeting server applications, so it's likely it will be tested for compatibility with the same platforms from Intel, among others. The new 1β DRAM is said to increase efficiency by more than 40 percent, although the publication didn't mention if this is power efficiency or something else. The 1β DRAM from SK Hynix, as well as Samsung—who announced its 1β DRAM in December 2022—are made using an EUV lithography process and the two Korean DRAM makers are the only two makers of DRAM that are using EUV so far.

Data Center CPU Landscape Allows Ampere Computing to Gain Traction
Once upon a time, the data center market represented a duopoly of x86-64 makers AMD and Intel. However, in recent years companies started developing custom Arm-based processors to handle workloads as complex within smaller power envelopes and doing it more efficiently. According to Counterpoint Research firm, we have the latest data highlighting a significant new player called Ampere Computing in the data center world. With the latest data center revenue share report, we get to see Intel/AMD x86-64 and AWS/Ampere Arm CPU revenue. For the first time, we see that a 3rd party company, Ampere Computing, managed to capture as much as 1.54% market revenue share of the entire data center market in 2022. Thanks to having CPUs in off-the-shelf servers from OEMs, enterprises and cloud providers are able to easily integrate Ampere Altra processors.

Intel, still the most significant player, saw a 70.77% share of the overall revenue; however, that comes as a drop from 2021 data which stated an 80.71% revenue share in the data center market. This represents a 16% year-over-year decline. This reduction is not due to the low demand for server processors, as the global data center CPU market's revenue registered only a 4.4% YoY decline in 2022, but due to the high demand for AMD EPYC solutions, where team red managed to grab 19.84% of the revenue from 2022. This is a 62% YoY growth from last year's 11.74% revenue share. Slowly but surely, AMD is eating Intel's lunch. Another revenue source comes from Amazon Web Services (AWS), which the company filled with its Graviton CPU offerings based on Arm ISA. AWS Graviton CPUs accounted for 3.16% of the market revenue, up 74% from 1.82% in 2021.

(PR) GIGABYTE Announces Enterprise Products Compliant with the Latest Standards in Open Compute Project (OCP)
Giga Computing, a subsidiary of GIGABTE and an industry leader in high-performance servers, server motherboards, and workstations, today announced a new generation of GIGABYTE enterprise products that follow the Open Compute Project (OCP) Open Rack Version 3 (ORV3) standards. Supporting the latest CPU advancements on both x86 and ARM platforms, these new solutions have been designed for open, scalable, and efficient designs that are used in a wide range of deployments from small data centers to hyperscalers. The new generation of GIGABYTE enterprise products will begin with compute and storage nodes based on ORV3 standards, in addition to a new rack and multi-node tray. Some notable modifications to the new version of open rack standards include supporting greater power density that is up to 30kW/rack with a new single 48 V busbar and advanced cooling options such as direct liquid cooling (DLC). Data centers have greater options thanks to the expanding GIGABYTE server portfolio for next gen processor technology.

Evolving with modern demands, the new OCP standard reduces current draw and conduction losses. Power distribution in ORV1 relied on three 12 V busbars, but that design was superseded by ORV2 with a single 12 V busbar. However, as rack power density has the grabbed attention of data centers, a new single 48 V busbar solution has become the latest standard. Incorporating the 48 V busbar and greater rack compatibility and integration, the new GIGABYTE DO22-ST0 is a 42OU rack that has up to both 18OU and 20OU of usable rack space above and below the included 1U power shelf, which supports up to 15kW from a 5+1 power supply configuration, and three sets of switch trays.

The smaller foundries in Taiwan—at least compared to TSMC—UMC, PSMC and VIS to name the bigger players, but also other less well known foundries that produce chips on mature nodes, are getting ready for what looks like a price war. In all fairness, all of these companies have hiked their prices multiple times over the past couple of years, so it might just be a return to more normal pricing for these nodes that we're looking at. According to UDN media in Taiwan, the smaller foundries are offering discounts that range between 10 and 20 percent for new orders placed with them.

This is largely due to underutilised production lines for some nodes and the companies are trying to increase the utilisation rate of these nodes. The article mentions that the foundries with 8-inch wafer lines are those hardest hit, especially as they've produced more specialised ICs, such as fingerprint sensors, various driver ICs and power management ICs to mention a few. Some of these foundries are now running at 50 to 60 percent of their capacity, which doesn't bode well for the industry. On the other hand, 12-inch fabs aren't nearly as badly hit and might not offer as attractive discounts to potential customers. Another threat to the Taiwanese foundries is Samsung, which is reportedly also offering around a 10 percent discount on its mature nodes.

Intel Foundry Services Allegedly Working on Test Chips for 43 Potential Customers
A new story is making the rounds, citing Wang Rui, chair Intel China, in the media in both China and Taiwan, claiming that Intel is working on test chips for as many as 43 potential customers for Intel Foundry Services (IFS). At least seven of those potential customers are said to be from the top 10 foundry clients globally. This sounds a bit too good to be true, considering that IFS has as yet to prove that they can deliver on their promises.

Furthermore, Wang Rui is meant to have gone on record, saying that IFS has taped out products on both its 20A and 18A nodes. Exactly what these products are, wasn't divulged, but as the 18A node isn't expected to go into mass production until the second half of 2024, this sounds a little bit too good to be true. What makes this even less believable is that the Intel 4 node is only set to go into mass production in the second half this year and before Intel moves to its Ångström nodes, the company still has to deliver on its Intel 3 node. The Intel China chair is also reportedly confident that Intel will be returning to a leading foundry position by 2025.

(PR) Revenue from Enterprise SSDs Totaled Just US$3.79 Billion for 4Q22 Due to Slumping Demand and Widening Decline in SSD Contract Prices, Says TrendForce
Looking back at 2H22, as server OEMs slowed down the momentum of their product shipments, Chinese server buyers also held a conservative outlook on future demand and focused on inventory reduction. Thus, the flow of orders for enterprise SSDs remained sluggish. However, NAND Flash suppliers had to step up shipments of enterprise SSDs during 2H22 because the demand for storage components equipped in notebook (laptop) computers and smartphones had undergone very large downward corrections. Compared with other categories of NAND Flash products, enterprise SSDs represented the only significant source of bit consumption. Ultimately, due to the imbalance between supply and demand, the QoQ decline in prices of enterprise SSDs widened to 25% for 4Q22. This price plunge, in turn, caused the quarterly total revenue from enterprise SSDs to drop by 27.4% QoQ to around US$3.79 billion. TrendForce projects that the NAND Flash industry will again post a QoQ decline in the revenue from this product category for 1Q23.

Intel Quietly Fixes High Multi-monitor Power Draw of Arc GPUs
Without mentioning it in its driver change-log, Intel Graphics has quietly addressed the issue of unusually high power-draw for its Arc A-series GPUs in multi-monitor setups. The older 101.4091 drivers had a typical single-monitor idle power-draw of around 11 W, which would shoot up to 40 W idle in multi-monitor setups. In our own launch-day review of the Arc A770, we logged a 44 W multi-monitor power-draw. Intel now claims that the multi-monitor idle power-draw has been tamed, with the latest 101.4146 drivers the company released last week lowering this down to "8 to 9 W" for multi-monitor setups, and "7 to 8 W" for single-monitor ones.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive 2 Out Later This Month?
Valve Software is giving final touches to its first PC title in close to a decade, and under its cult-classic Counter Strike franchise. The game's tightly-guarded development was leaked to the web in an NVIDIA GeForce software game profiles file, which described its binary executable files as "csgos2.exe" and "cs2.exe". VideoGames Chronicle dug deeper and discovered that the game has been in development at Valve for some time now, and is designed to be a modern e-sports title. It is based on the latest version of the company's in-house Source 2 game engine ("Half Life: Alyx"), and features an advanced multiplayer server architecture that ensures 128-tick, similar to "Valorant." The company is also using an in-house new matchmaking engine. With the emergence of this game on NVIDIA driver profiles, Counter Strike Global Offensive 2 should reach the public in some shape or form (at least an open beta), later this month.

This Week in Gaming (Week 10)
This is technically the first full week of game releases in March, but outside of a single AA title—which is technically a remake of a 2008 release—this week's releases are mostly lowkey games. We do at least have a good mix of games to look forward to, ranging from strategy and simulations to adventure and horror, even if they're not from big developers or publishers.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse / This week's AA title / Thursday 9 March

A group of children mysteriously disappeared during a festival on Rogetsu Isle. Although they were found, they had lost their memories. Now they have returned to the island as teenagers. The girls rely on the Camera Obscura, a camera with the power to capture and seal away unthinkable horrors, and the faint beam of their flashlight while exploring various locations and fending off the ghosts that attack them as they attempt to discover the truth of their haunting past.

AMD's Zen 4 I/O Die Detailed Courtesy of ISSCC Presentation
Although we've known most of the details of AMD's I/O die in its Zen 4 processors, until now, AMD hadn't shared a die shot of the cIOD, but thanks to its ISSCC 2023 presentation, we not only have a die shot of the cIOD, but some friendly people on the internet have also made annotations for us mere mortals. There are no big secrets here, but based on the annotations by @Locuza_ we now know for certain that it's not possible to use the current I/O die with three CCDs, as it only has two GMI3 interfaces, to which the CCDs are connected.

If you're wondering about the 2x 40-bit memory interface, it's for ECC memory support outside of the on-die ECC support of DDR5 memory. Also note that DDR5 memory is two times 32-bit in non ECC mode. That said, it's up to the motherboard makers to implement support for ECC memory, but it would appear all Zen 4 CPUs support it. The addition of a GPU, even a basic one like this, takes up a fair bit of space inside the cIOD, especially once you add things like video decoders/encoders and so on. In fact, it appears that the parts related to the GPU and video decoders/encoders take up at least a third of the space inside the I/O die, yet thanks to a significant die shrink from the Zen 3 era cIOD, it's physically smaller in the Zen 4 processors, while having an estimated 58 percent increase in transistors.

Intel Ups Demand on Subsidies from German Government for New Fab to €5 Billion
Last month, reports were saying that Intel wanted an additional €3.2 billion from the German government in subsidies to build its fab in Magdeburg, but apparently that wasn't nearly enough, as the company has increased its demands to somewhere between €4 billion to €5 billion. What triggered Intel to go ask the German government for even more cash is most likely a combination of things, as Intel is going to want to cover increases in costs courtesy of interest hikes and the inflation that's going on globally, alongside soaring energy prices in Europe. The expected cost of the new fab is said to have increased from €17 billion to €30 billion, which is not exactly pocket change.

In a statement to Bloomberg, Intel said that "disruptions in the global economy have resulted in increased costs, from construction materials to energy," and continued "We appreciate the constructive dialogue with the federal government to address the cost gap that exists with building in other locations and make this project globally competitive." The construction start of the Magdeburg fab has already been delayed and according to Bloomberg, Intel is also considering delaying its planned assembly factory in Italy. It doesn't look promising for either party, as Intel seems to want to spend as little as possible on building its new facilities, while expecting various governments around the world to prop it up until the new facilities are making money. Hopefully neither nation will agree to Intel changing the terms of the deals, as it could cost more nations more than they would earn in long term revenue from Intel.

ASUS TUF Gaming B760M-BTF WiFi D4 has its Connectors on the Reverse Side of the Motherboard
Back in October of last year, pictures from an ASUS event in China appeared online, showing off a pair of mATX motherboards that had most of its peripheral and power connectors on the reverse side of the motherboard. Now it appears that ASUS has decided to launch such a product, in the shape of the unforgettably named TUF Gaming B760M-BTF WiFi D4. The BTF part in the model name stands Back To (the) Future, although ASUS is most likely not allowed to use that term due to copyright restrictions, so it had to make do with BTF. Regardless of naming, the interesting part here is that all of the power connectors, the four SATA ports, the USB-C and USB 3.0 headers, as well as multiple other headers and one of three M.2 slots, are on the reverse side of the motherboard. This is all done to allow for cleaner cable management.

Other noteworthy features on the board include a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, one PCIe 4.0 x4 and one x1 slot, three USB-C ports, of which one is capable of 20 Gbps speeds and 2.5 Gbps Ethernet. As this is a mid-range board, we presume ASUS wants to test the waters so to speak, to make sure there's a market for such a product. However, one major hurdle is the small fact that there aren't any suitable chassis in the market and the product page even mentions that "This motherboard is compatible with specific case models", without going into any details. Presumably, ASUS will offer a suitable chassis, or have some partner(s) lined up that will provide a suitable chassis. Gigabyte announced something similar in May last year, but decided to team up with system integrators, something ASUS might be planning on as well.

Default TSMC's 3 nm Node at Near 50 Percent Utilisation, Other Nodes Seeing Lo

Based on multiple reports out of Taiwan, TSMC is seeing increased utilisation of its 3 nm node and its production line is now at close to 50 percent utilisation. The main customer here is without a doubt Apple and TSMC is churning out some 50-55,000 wafers a month on its 3 nm node. TSMC is also getting ready to start production on its N3E node later this year, which will see some customers move to the node.

However, it's not all good news, as TSMC is seeing a decline in utilisation on its 5/4 and 7/6 nm nodes as demand has dropped significantly here, with different news outlets reporting different figures. Some are suggesting the 7/6 nm nodes might have dropped as low as to 50 percent utilisation, others mention 70 percent. The 5/4 nm nodes aren't anywhere nearly as badly affected and remain at around 80 percent utilisation. The good news for TSMC is that this is expected to be a temporary slump in demand and most of its leading edge nodes should be back at somewhere around a 90 percent utilisation rate by the second half of the year. However, this depends on what the demand for its partners' products will look like going forward, as many of TSMC's customers are seeing lower demand for their products in turn.

Google Gives Access to VPN Service and Dark Web Report to All Google One Customers
Google has made changes to its Google One plans yet again, although this time around, its customers are actually getting more for their money. For those not familiar with the Google One service, it's Google's Dropbox, Microsoft's OneDrive and Apple's iCloud. However, Google has included things like support for its services though its One service and higher tiers have seen added benefits beyond more storage space, such as free access to Google's VPN service. Now the company has decided to give those on its 100 GB US$1.99 and 200 GB US$2.99 service tiers access to not only its VPN service, but has also added what the company calls a dark web report.

The dark web report allows you to search for potential stolen private information on the dark web, or rather, Google does the searching for you and tells you if there are any results in a report. The tricky part here is that you need to have the right info to search for in the first place, but it could be something simple like your email address or phone number, but it could also be your credit card details. The VPN service is for the time being limited to 22 countries that you can find in the screenshot below. It's unlikely that Google offers the best VPN service out there, but it could help protect against man in the middle attacks when using public WiFi if nothing else and it's a decent perk if you're already paying for the Google One service.

When Intel announced the appearance of the 4th generation Xeon-W processors, the company announced that the clock multiplier was left unlocked, available for overclockers to try and push these chips even harder. However, it was only a matter of time before we saw the top-end Xeon-W SKU take a chance at beating the world record in Cinebench R23. The Intel Xeon W9-3495X SKU is officially the world record score holder with 132,484 points in Cinebench R23. The overclocker OGS from Greece managed to push all 56 cores and 112 threads of the CPU to 5.4 GHz clock frequency using liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling setup. Using ASUS Pro WS W790E-SAGE SE motherboard and G-SKILL Zeta R5 RAM kit, the OC record was set on March 8th.

The previous record holder of this position was AMD with its Threadripper Pro 5995WX with 64 cores and 128 threads clocked at 5.4 GHz. Long Term Nintendo Wii U Owners Experiencing Bricked Systems
It has been reported by multiple users across several online communities that their Wii U consoles are no longer functioning properly. The error codes 160-0103 and 160-2155 are the dreaded indicators of memory corruption. It has been discovered that the NAND Flash within the Wii U's internal eMMC is prone to failure. According to details gleaned from teardowns of the console's hardware, Nintendo has implemented either Toshiba or Samsung flash storage boards for the various revisions of the console. There has been an uptick in the rate of bricked Wii U consoles across recent months, but the problems seem to have occurred as far back as 2015, according to archived posts on the GBA Temp forum. It is speculated that leaving the Wii U inactive for long periods of time can lead to the memory corruption issues.

The Steam Deck might be struggling to run some of the latest games, which means that Valve is certainly looking closely at what can be improved. Default ASUS Intros ROG Strix Impact III Gaming Mouse

ASUS introduced the ROG Strix Impact III, a lightweight, compact, quasi-ambidextrous, wired gaming mouse. Measuring 126 mm x 62 mm x 39 mm (LxWxH), and weighing just 59 g, the mouse is optimized for mainly claw and fingertip grip types, as its slender design may not be the best fit for palm grips. FPS is the most suitable game genre for this mouse. It features a 5-button layout—two main buttons, two left-side buttons, and the middle-click, along with a vertical scrollwheel. There's also a physical button to cycle among dpi presets, which is set in the ROG Armory app. Under the hood, the ROG Strix Impact III rocks a PixArt PAW3318 optical sensor with 12,000 dpi hardware resolution, with 300 ips top speed, and 35 ips acceleration, along with a USB polling rate of 1000 Hz. The main buttons are backed by 70 million-click rated ROG microswitches. PFTE gliding feet, and a braided USB cable makes for the rest of it. The company didn't reveal pricing.

Google Reveals Intent to Support Live-Service Games With Future Partnerships
Google is "positioning itself as a go-to tech partner for publishers of live-service video games" by offering its cloud gaming technology to outside companies. This is an interesting statement regarding the future trajectory of its cloud gaming infrastructure, given the scarcity of updates since the January 2023 shutdown of the Cloud giant's Stadia gaming platform.

Google Cloud's director of Game Industry solutions, Jack Buser, was interviewed by Axios in an article published earlier this week, he outlined the company's ambitions to move forward in a post-Stadia world. Google Cloud is seeking partnership with publishers, its technology is being offered to prospective clients as a support platform for live-service games. "Google is absolutely committed to games that are such a big part of our messaging," Buser said. "When we made the decision with Stadia, we were just like, look, we are committed to games as an industry."

He listed the OEM partners who have integrated the 7945HX into flagship level laptop models. He also declared that this range topping CPU is a competition beater. Gaming benchmark tests have demonstrated that the Ryzen 9 7945HX beats Intel's Raptor Lake Core i9-13950HX by an average margin of 10%.

AMD Shows First Ryzen 7 7800X3D Game Benchmarks, Up To 24% Faster Than Core i9-13900K
AMD has finally released some of the official gaming benchmark for its 8-core Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor that should be coming in April, and, now that AMD has released some of the first gaming benchmarks, it appears that it outperforms the Intel Core i9-13900K by up to 24 percent. Officially, AMD is putting the Ryzen 7 7800X3D against the Intel Core i7-13700K, leaving the Core i9-13900K and the Core i9-13900KS to its 16- and 12-core Ryzen 7000X3D SKUs.

Although some of its Ryzen 7000X3D series chips are available as of February 28th, namely the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and the Ryzen 9 7900X3D, AMD has pushed back the launch of its 8-core/16-thread Ryzen 7 7800X3D. This was quite a surprise and a big letdown, especially due to its tempting $449 price tag. One of the reasons might be the fact that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is simply too good and might put a lot of pressure on even AMD's own SKUs, let alone Intel's lineup.

Default Forspoken is a Sales Flop, Square Enix Cites "Challenging" Critical Re

According to a Square Enix Outline of Results Briefing from February 2023, Forspoken sales numbers are lower than anticipated. Square Enix company president Yosuke Matsuda stated: "Reviews of "FORSPOKEN," which we released on January 24, 2023, have been challenging. However, the game has also received positive feedback on its action features, including its parkour and combat capabilities, so it has yielded results that will lead to improvement of our development capabilities of other games in the future. That said, its sales have been lackluster, and while the performance of new titles with February and March release dates will be the ultimate determinant, we see considerable downside risk to our FY2023/3 earnings."

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Allegedly Launches on April 13
It has been pretty much confirmed that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (non-Ti) is launching in April, but now, the rumored date has been specified as April 13th. The latest report comes from a well known leaker, hongxing2020, over at Twitter, who has a pretty good track record and had correct dates for RTX 30 and RTX 40 series launch dates. In case you missed it, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 is based on the same AD104 GPU as the RTX 4070 Ti, with slightly fewer cores, but still comes with the same memory specification as the Ti version.

This means the GeForce RTX 4070 should feature 46 streaming multiprocessors (SMs) which should leave it with 5,888 CUDA cores enabled. It will come with 12 GB of GDDR6X memory on a 192-bit memory interface. The TDP is rumored at 200 W. There were some rumors that NVIDIA could have three different SKUs for the RTX 4070, with 16 GB, 12 GB, and 10 GB of VRAM, but so far, this has just remained as a vague rumor coming from Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) regulatory filings. NVIDIA is slowly completing the RTX 40 series lineup, so hopefully we will not have to wait too long for updates on the RTX 4060 Ti and the RTX 4060. NVIDIA, and its founder and CEO, Jensen Huang, will be holding the opening keynote at GTC on March 21st, so we could get at least some updates for the future GeForce lineup.

Arm Holdings, the Cambridge, UK-based chip designer, is seeking public listing solely in the USA. This major decision has struck a blow to the UK Government's efforts to encourage a dual public listing. Multiple Prime Ministers and high level staff have been in regular meetings with the Arm Executive Team. The current UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak met with Arm's CEO Rene Haas and SoftBank's founder and Chief Executive Masayoshi Son back in January of this year. It was reported that the meeting was a last ditch attempt to secure an application for UK listing from both companies. Intel Xeon W9-3495X Sets World Record, Dethrones AMD Threadripper

Not only did Xeon W9-3495X set the Cinebench R23 record, but the SKU also placed the newest record for Cinebench R20, Y-Cruncher, 3DMark CPU test, and Geekbench 3 as well.

Default NVIDIA pulls RTX 30-series Founders Edition Cards From its Webstore

NVIDIA has removed all its GeForce RTX 30-series Founders Edition graphics cards from its webstore. There are still plenty of RTX 30-series graphics cards available everywhere, including the NVIDIA webstore, as NVIDIA is happily selling custom versions from its AIC partners. This does not mean that you can't find the RTX 30-series Founders Edition graphics cards at other shops, as some might be available from other retailers/e-tailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, Mindfactory, and others. It is now obvious that NVIDIA is slowly phasing out the Ampere-based graphics cards and that it will focus on GeForce RTX 4090, 4080, and 4070 Ti, as well as the GeForce RTX 4070 that should come soon.
