(PR) Cooler Master Enhanced the Legacy with ATX 3.0 Power Supply Launch: V Gold i, V SFX Platinum, MWE Gold V2 ATX 3.0 version
Last year Cooler Master unveiled a milestone in the history of contemporary technology: the very first small form factor power supply in the market with 850 W, V SFX Gold series. Today, Cooler Master takes the successor and pushes the limit to the maximum. Introducing V SFX Platinum, a series of small form factor power supply focused on high density and maximum power. While increasing the efficiency rate from Gold to Platinum, we also added ATX 3.0 and PCI-e Gen 5 connector so even with the Mini-ITX build; this will be your last stop when choosing the right power supply.

    High Density / Performance-Focused

The V SFX Platinum comes with 2 different wattages: 1100 W and 1300 W targeting Mini-ITX system builders who wants to go bold with their setup, but doesn't have enough juice from the power supply. It also comes with a free SFX-ATX bracket that unlocks the limitations between each form factors, giving end-users more freedom and potential builds in the future. The V SFX Platinum are built with Full Bridge LLC design, quiet 92 mm silent fan and 100% Japanese capacitors. NVIDIA Rush-Orders A100 and H100 AI-GPUs with TSMC Before US Sanctions Hit
Early this month, the US Government banned American companies from exporting AI-acceleration GPUs to China and Russia, but these restrictions don't take effect before March 2023. This gives NVIDIA time to take rush-orders from Chinese companies for its AI-accelerators before the sanctions hit. The company has placed "rush orders" for a large quantity of A100 "Ampere" and H100 "Hopper" chips with TSMC, so they could be delivered to firms in China before March 2023, according to a report by Chinese business news publication UDN. The rush-orders for high-margin products such as AI-GPUs, could come as a shot in the arm for NVIDIA, which is facing a sudden loss in gaming GPU revenues, as those chips are no longer in demand from crypto-currency miners.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 Pictured
Later today, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang will take centerstage at GTC to launch the next-generation GeForce RTX 40-series "Ada" graphics cards, in what is expected to be a pre-recorded stream, which may have been filmed earlier. This has been leaked, and we have our first picture of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition graphics card. Its design retains the dual-axial flow-through concept introduced with the RTX 30-series Founders Edition cards, where a fan on one side of the card draws in cooler air, passes it through the heatsink, and exhausts with the help of a second fan. There appear to be some refinements to the design of the fan-impellers, The card itself is 3 slots thick, much like the RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition. The RTX 4080, positioned a notch below this card, was pictured earlier in its anti-static sleeve, and appears to feature an identical board design.

AMD Radeon RX 7000-series RDNA3 GPUs Approach 4 GHz GPU Clocks
AMD's upcoming Radeon RX 7000-series GPUs based on the RDNA3 graphics architecture, are rumored to be capable of engine clocks (GPU clocks) close to 4 GHz. This is plausible, given that the current-gen RX 6000-series can hit 3 GHz. AMD's play against the RTX 4090 will hence be a product with +50% performance/Watt gain over the previous generation, a significantly increased shader-count, an over 70% increase in memory bandwidth (384-bit memory running at 20 Gbps or more), faster/larger Infinity Cache, and to top it all off, engine clocks approaching 4 GHz.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X Up for Sale in Europe and China
Ahead of its September 27 market availability, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X "Zen 4" has already hit the gray-markets in China. Some retailers in Europe even started listing them. Chinese online gray-markets (peer to peer commerce) sites, list the 7950X at RMB ¥5,999 (around USD $850). None of these listings show a box, so it's likely that the sellers bought a tray of these chips in the OEM or SI channels, and is selling them off piecemeal. OEM-only AMD SKUs usually land in the retail channel this way. Over in Europe, French retailer Cdiscount has the 7950X listed at 1,099€ including taxes ($1,102). The store also lists the 7900X at 749€ ($751), the 7700X at 589€ ($591), and the 7600X at 409€ ($410).

(PR) Impact of Earthquake on Production Status of Taiwan's Semiconductor and Panel Industries Limited
On the evening of September 17, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale occurred in Guanshan Township, Taitung. Yesterday (9/18) afternoon, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale occurred in Chishang Township, Taitung. Following up on these recent powerful earthquakes, TrendForce's investigation into their impact on Taiwan's semiconductor and panel industries is as follows:

In terms of foundries, due to shock-absorbing plant designs, earthquake vibrations inside fabs are one level of magnitude less than outside. In terms of equipment manufacturers, currently there are no reports of substantial factory damage. In the worst case, some machinery required initialization after crashing. In terms of memory, Nanya Technology has already carried out a shutdown inspection. If there was any wafer damage, Nanya maintains sufficient inventory to compensate. Micron recalled engineers to inspect equipment and has confirmed no losses. Thus, the capacity utilization rate of these two companies has not been affected nor has supply.

Rockstar Games Statement on Grand Theft Footage
Rockstar Games responded to the recent leaks of its next "Grand Theft Auto" game in development, which was splattered all over YouTube over the weekend. The studio sent takedown-notices to several popular news sites re-posting the found-footage, and YouTube dutifully took videos from the major channels down, but the Internet never forgets. The footage has been re-posted by thousands of smaller, non-commercial users on YouTube and other social media. The game itself doesn't "look" too next-gen, because Rockstar is still designing its mechanics, and will probably work on the eye-candy much later. In its statement, Rockstar said that a network intrusion caused the footage to leak to the web, but assured gamers that the leak won't affect Rockstar's online services, and have no impact in the medium-long term on games that are in development.

MSI Confirms Intel Z790 Motherboards Launch on September 27
MSI tweeted a teaser of a few unnamed motherboards with a launch date of September 27. One of the shots in the teaser picture reveals "Z790," confirming that the next wave of Socket LGA1700 motherboards based on the Intel Z790 chipset will debut alongside 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" desktop processors. This could be the day on which motherboard vendors formally launch their Z790 motherboards, although availability should be in-sync with that of the 13th Gen processors. Although we know from earlier leaks that September 27 could be the launch date of "Raptor Lake," there have been no leaks about market-availability. Intel's 700-series chipset motherboards support not just 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" processors, but also current 12th Gen "Alder Lake;" and you can use "Raptor Lake" processors with current 600-series chipset motherboards by simply updating their BIOS.

Default Early Core i9-13900K Review Hints that it Holds up to the "20-40" Clai

An early review of a retail Intel Core i9-13900K "Raptor Lake" 8P+16E processor shows it holding up to the rumored "20-40" claim, the idea that the processor can be up to 20% faster in gaming, and up to 40% faster in productivity, compared to the current i9-12900K. Much of the gaming performance increase is attributed to the higher IPC of the new "Raptor Cove" P-cores, and the much higher boost clocks they run at (up to 5.80 GHz); whereas the multi-threaded performance boost comes from not just the faster P-cores, but a doubling in the E-core count to 16, and improved E-core cache structures, besides higher clock speeds that they run on. For tests that scale across P-cores and E-cores, the i9-13900K behaves like a 24-core/32-thread processor, which is what it is. Among the tests included are CSGO, AIDA64, 7-Zip, WinRAR, Cinebench R15, R20, and R23; and their average, in comparison to the i9-12900K.

AMD Ryzen 9 7900X CPU-Z Benched, Falls Short of Core i7-12700K in ST, Probably Due to Temperature Throttling
An AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-core/24-thread processor sample was put through CPU-Z Bench, the internal benchmark of the app. The chip boosted up to 5.20 GHz in the test, and ran at temperatures as high as 86°C, as reported by CPU-Z. It scored 766 points in the single-threaded test, and 11882 points in the multi-threaded one. The single-threaded numbers in particular are interesting. 766 points would put the 7900X behind the Core i7-12700K and its "Golden Cove" P-core by around 3%. In the multi-threaded test, however, the 7900X, with its 11822 points, is in the league of the next-generation Core i7-13700K (8P+8E) processor, which was recently spotted scoring 11877 points with a 6.20 GHz overclock. The 7900X will hence be pushed as a superior alternative to the i7-13700K for productivity and creator tasks, whereas its single-threaded score ensures that it falls behind the i7-13700K in gaming by a fair bit.

(PR) AMD Trims Q3 Forecast, $1 Billion Missing, Client Processor Revenue down 40%, Halved Quarter-over-Quarter
AMD (NASDAQ:AMD) today announced selected preliminary financial results for the third quarter of 2022. Third quarter revenue is expected to be approximately $5.6 billion, an increase of 29% year-over-year. AMD previously expected revenue to increase approximately 55% year-over-year at the mid-point of guidance. Preliminary results reflect lower than expected Client segment revenue resulting from reduced processor shipments due to a weaker than expected PC market and significant inventory correction actions across the PC supply chain.

Revenue for the Data Center, Gaming, and Embedded segments each increased significantly year-over-year in-line with the company's expectations. Gross margin is expected to be approximately 42% and non-GAAP(*) gross margin is expected to be approximately 50%. AMD previously expected non-GAAP gross margin to be approximately 54%. The gross margin shortfall to expectations was primarily due to lower revenue driven by lower Client processor unit shipments and average selling price (ASP). In addition, the third quarter results are expected to include approximately $160 million of charges primarily for inventory, pricing, and related reserves in the graphics and client businesses.

Lots of performance at a fair price. With the Core Ocean AiO, Alphacool presents an all-in-one solution that offers an entry into performance-oriented CPU water cooling thanks to its excellent price-performance ratio. The difference to Alphacool's Eisbaer CPU AiO is that the Ocean All-in One is not expandable. Adding more components such as radiators, pump or expansion tank is not intended here. But also not necessary! The choice of components and the design of the Core Ocean AiO allow a long lifetime with low maintenance for water cooling of all common mainstream sockets from AMD and Intel. The included mounting hardware already allows Alphacool's latest all-in-one to be used on AMD's AM5 socket. Also included in the package is Alphacool's Subzero Thermal Grease. This electrically non-conductive 16 W/mk thermal compound is particularly well suited for high contact pressures, but can still be applied perfectly due to its viscosity of 850000 TF.

(PR) Noctua Presents NA-TPG1 Thermal Paste Guard for AMD AM5
Noctua today announced its new NA-TPG1 thermal paste guard for AMD's latest AM5 based Ryzen processors. When the mounting pressure of the cooling solution is applied, excess thermal paste will be squeezed outwards. With AM5 CPUs, this excess paste tends to accumulate in the cut-outs at the sides of the heat-spreader and may become difficult to remove. Simple and risk-free to apply, the NA-TPG1 prevents this undesired phenomenon.

"While there's no denying that AMD's new Ryzen 7000 processors perform fantastic, we found that the cut-outs at the side of the heat-spreader tend to attract thermal paste that can be challenging to clean off" says Roland Mossig (Noctua CEO). "This is where our new thermal paste guard steps in: it's a simple yet highly effective tool for keeping your new Ryzen 7000 series CPU nice and clean."

Default Intel Looking to Lay Off Meaningful Numbers of Staff, Can Some Product

Intel's third quarter financials that the company released yesterday, weren't exactly what you'd call stellar. This has put Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger in a bind, as he's been forced to announce cost cuts of US$3 billion annually, starting 2023, but that it'll grow to somewhere between US$8 to 10 billion by 2025. Although Gelsinger didn't reveal the specifics of what these cost cuts will entail, he did mention quite a few potentials, according to The Register. Gelisinger stated that Intel "need to balance increased investment in areas like leadership in [technology development], product, and capacity [at new plants under construction] in Ohio and Germany, with the efficiency measures elsewhere as we drive to have best in class structures."

Intel's CFO David Zinsner, told Barron's that the company will be cutting a "meaningful number" of employees from Intel's payroll. Zisner went on to say that Intel will also perform "portfolio cuts, right-sizing our support organizations, more stringent cost controls in all aspects of our spending, and improved sales and marketing efficiency". It sounds like almost no-one is safe at Intel, especially as portofolio cuts mean that some product lines will either be sold off, or simply just canned in favour of more profitable products. Intel is also betting hard on its IDM 2.0 strategy, where the company is decoupling its hardware and software design teams from its foundry business. Time will tell if this helps restart Intel as a business, but Gelsinger seems to believe that the changes he's implementing at Intel will help turn things around.

Arm Could Change Licensing Model to Charge OEMs Directly
Over the past few weeks, the legal dispute between Arm Ltd. and Qualcomm Inc. has been warming up the eyes of the entire tech community. However, as per the latest court filing, Arm could change its licensing strategy and shift its whole business model into a new direction that would benefit the company directly. Currently, the company provides the intellectual property (IP) that chip makers can use and add to designs mixed with other IPs and custom in-house solutions. That is how the world of electronics design (EDA) works and how many companies operate. However, in the Qualcomm-Arm legal battle, Qualcomm's counterclaim has brought new light about Arm's plans for licensing its hardware designs past 2024.

According to Dylan Patel of SemiAnalysis, who examined court documents, Arm will reportedly change terms to use its IP where the use of other IP mixed with Arm IP is prohibited. If a chip maker plans to use Arm CPU IP, they must also use Arm's GPU/NPU/ISP/DSP IPs. This would result in devices that utilize every design the UK-based designer has to offer, and other IP makers will have to exclude their designs from the SoC. By doing this, Arm directly stands against deals like the Samsung-AMD deal, where AMD provides RDNA GPU IP and would force Samsung to use Arm's Mali GPU IP instead. This change should take effect in 2025 when every new license agreement has to comply with new rules.

MSI GeForce RTX 4080 SUPRIM X, Gaming X, and Ventus 3X Pictured
Here are some of the first pictures of MSI's custom-design GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards. The company is giving the RTX 4080 (formerly known as the RTX 4080 16 GB); custom-designs across three of its graphics card brands. Leading the pack is the RTX 4080 SUPRIM X and RTX 4080 SUPRIM; in the middle are the RTX 4080 Gaming X and RTX 4080 Gaming; and at the entry-level at the RTX 4080 Ventus 3X, and the RTX 4080 Ventus 3X OC. The Ventus 3X is expected to stick to NVIDIA reference speeds, with the Ventus 3X OC having a mild factory-overclock. The RTX 4080 Gaming has a similar overclock to the Ventus 3X OC, but with a superior cooling solution that's splashed with RGB LEDs. The RTX 4080 Gaming X has a higher factory-overclock grade. The RTX 4080 SUPRIM has a similar factory-overclock to the Gaming X, but with MSI's top SUPRIM cooling solution; while the SUPRIM X has the company's highest factory-overclock grade.

The RTX 4080 SUPRIM and SUPRIM X feature a similar-looking board design to that of the RTX 4090 SUPRIM X, with a meaty 4-slot cooling solution, premium multi-tone metal shrouds and backplates, and the company's highest-quality PCB components and its top VRM solution. The RTX 4080 Gaming X and Gaming are middle-tier, still give you a reasonably well-designed cooling solution geared for gaming, which looks bright and colorful in your rig. The RTX 4080 Ventus 3X OC and Ventus 3X are designed to be practical. If you just want a close-to-reference RTX 4080 that you can install and forget about, the Ventus series is for you. NVIDIA is launching the RTX 4080 on November 16.

Default GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4080 EAGLE Graphics Card Pictured

In case you missed it, NVIDIA "unlaunched" the GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB; and so the RTX 4080 16 GB is now called just "RTX 4080." Here are some of the first pictures of a custom-design RTX 4080, the GIGABYTE Eagle OC. The company's new value-ended factory-overclocked graphics card brand sheds much of the unnecessary design bulk of the RTX 30-series Eagle; and sticks with a functional, minimalist design. The card features a 4-slot cooling solution, with an enormous plastic cooler shrooud holding a trio of what look like 100 mm fans. ventilating a dual aluminium fin-stack heatsink. Display outputs include a trio of DisplayPort 1.4a, and an HDMI 2.0b. The card draws power from a single 16-pin 12VHPWR connector, and is possibly the first confirmation that NVIDIA is extending the new power connector down its product stack. The RTX 4080 has a typical board power of 320 W (at reference speeds).

Based on the 4 nm AD103 silicon, the RTX 4080 is endowed with 9,728 CUDA cores, 76 RT cores, 304 Tensor cores, 304 TMUs, and 112 ROPs. The card's 16 GB of GDDR6X memory runs across a 256-bit wide memory interface, which at its memory frequency of 23 Gbps, churns out 736 GB/s of memory bandwidth. GIGABYTE is designing the Eagle brand-extension to compete with the likes of the ASUS TUF Gaming, and MSI Ventus X. NVIDIA is launching the RTX 4080 on November 16.

NVIDIA Tells AICs to Collect RTX 4090 Cards with Burnt Power Connectors, Send Them to HQ
NVIDIA is responding to reports of the 12+4 pin ATX 12VHPWR power connector of its new GeForce RTX 4090 "Ada" graphics cards being unreliable, and posing a potential fire hazard. The company has reportedly instructed its add-in card (AIC) partners, companies that sell custom-design graphics cards; to collect all retail graphics cards with burnt power connectors, and send them over directly to NVIDIA HQ for investigation. Reports of the 12VHPWR connectors overheating due to improper terminal contact aren't new, but this is the first time a retail product implementing the connector is experiencing reliability issues.

It came to light when a Reddit user posted pictures of a melted 12VHPWR connector from an NVIDIA-supplied adapter that converts four 8-pin PCIe to one 600 W-capable 12VHPWR. There is also charring on the female connector on the card, but the user claims that the card is functional. Later this week, another Reddit user posted similar pictures of a burnt connector for their RTX 4090 card. NVIDIA director of global PR for GeForce, Bryan Del Rizzo, in a statement to The Verge, said that the company is in touch with the first owner who reported this problem, and is reaching out to the other, as part of their investigation.

PSA: How to Use a Local Account During Windows 11 22H2 Clean Install
Microsoft is finding more genius ways to prevent you from creating an offline (local) account for your Windows 11 PC, with the latest Windows 11 22H2 setup completely missing the option to use a local account, forcing you to either use a Microsoft account, or create one if you lack it. The side-effect of forcing you to either use or create an online account, is that you can no longer clean-install Windows without an active Internet connection. "julianxhokaxhiu" on GitHub Gist found a simple method to bypass this. According to a new method discovered by them, you simply let Windows 11 22H2 setup present you with the screen where it asks for an e-mail address (of your Microsoft account); and enter "test@test.com" with "test" as the password. Let setup fail the login, and click on "next." That's it. Windows setup will proceed without needing an active Internet connection, and you can create a local account.

(PR) Alphacool Unveils HDX Pro Water M.2 NVMe SSD Water Block
NVMe SSDs with M.2 format have become standard PC equipment because they allow high transfer rates and extremely low access times and thus enable faster and more effective working or gaming on the PC. Due to their construction, however, M.2 NVMe SSDs are only able to deliver their maximum performance for a short time. The controller chip heats up quickly and starts to throttle the SSD's performance early. To ensure that the full performance of the memory can be used permanently, Alphacool is expanding its portfolio for M.2 NVMe 2280 SSD water coolers and now also offers a brass variant of the HDX Pro Water with MCX connectors.

The HDX Pro Water is a reasonable choice when there is little space in the PC case and optimal hose paths are difficult to achieve. With the help of the MCX 2x manifold and the 5/3 mm hose (both included), the SSD water cooler in the MCX version can be integrated easily as well as space-saving. The installation is uncomplicated. The MCX 2x distributor is integrated into the water circuit via two G1/4" connections with internal thread. Here it is recommended to use the connections from Alphacool's Eiszapfen series. In the 2nd step, the HDX Pro SSD water cooler is connected to the MCX 2x manifold via the 5/3 mm PVC hose.

(PR) Corsair Gaming Reports Third Quarter 2022 Financial Results
Corsair Gaming, Inc. ("Corsair" or the "Company"), a leading global provider and innovator of high-performance gear for gamers and content creators, today announced financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2022. Andy Paul, Chief Executive Officer of Corsair, stated, "We achieved 10% sequential revenue growth from Q2 2022 to Q3 2022, while significantly reducing our channel inventory in what remains a challenging environment. Sales out levels from our Channel to Consumers were significantly above pre-pandemic levels in almost all product lines and were above the year ago level in many of our product categories.

As we mentioned in previous quarters, the self-built PC market has been held back over the past 2 years, as high demand for GPU cards from crypto miners caused GPU prices to rise and in some cases double. Now that Crypto mining can no longer utilize graphics cards as they used to, GPU demand has since normalized resulting in a decline in prices back to standard MSRP or below. We are already seeing the positive effects of this on the market.

AMD's Navi 31 Might Clock to 3 GHz, Partner Cards Will be Able to Overclock
Based on details from a PCWorld livestream following AMD's launch of the Radeon RX 7000-series, it was revealed that AMD has designed the Navi 31 GPU to be able to scale as high as 3 GHz. In other words, it appears that AMD has power limited its cards, at least for the SKUs that the company has announced so far. This could be for many reasons, but most likely to try to find a balance between power and performance. The details of the 3 GHz scaling did however not come from AMD directly, but rather from Jarred Walton over at Tom's Hardware. That said, the information was apparently shared with the media by AMD at the event.

In the livestream, it was also confirmed that partner cards will be able to overclock, so expect to see some factory overclocked cards, with higher power draw. This could be why, in part, that ASUS went with a much larger cooler on its TUF Gaming Radeon RX 7900-series cards. As ASUS didn't reveal any clock speeds or TDPs of its two cards, we don't really know what to expect, but we'd be surprised if these cards weren't factory overclocked to some degree when they launch in December.

(PR) Global Notebook Shipments Forecast at Only 176 Million Units in 2023, Says TrendForce
According to TrendForce, global notebook shipments in 4Q22 are likely to decline to 42.9 million units, down 7.2% QoQ and 32.3% YoY, lower than the same period before the pandemic. In addition, market demand is affected by negative factors such as inventory, the Russian-Ukrainian war, and rising inflation, leading to a downward revision of notebook market shipments in 2022 to 189 million units, a 23% decline YoY, with the proportion of shipments in the first and second half of the year at 53:47, the first top-heavy scenario in the past ten years.

According to research, the structural imbalance between notebook market supply and demand remains unresolved at present, leading this year's notebook shipments to present a downward movement trend quarter by quarter. TrendForce believes, after current inventory pressure gradually returns to a healthy level, Chromebooks may be the first wave of products that will see a recovery in demand by 2Q23 and traditional cyclical growth momentum is expected to return to the market, with shipments set to rebound slightly from 14.44 million in 2022 to 16.2 million units.

(PR) EK Ready with AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX Water Blocks
The long-awaited 3rd of November is here with the latest AMD Radeon RX 7000-series GPUs launch. More good news is that EK, the premium water-cooling gear manufacturer, is ready with EK-Quantum Vector² water blocks for the reference models of the new AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPUs. The new Radeon graphics cards come with a special memory cache dies (MCD) next to the main chip - Graphics Compute Die (GCD). The cooling engine has been modified to cool the MCDs as well, aside from the usual GPU components that are also being cooled, like the VRM, VRAM, Voltage Controllers, and the chip die.

The new Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPUs have GCD that is manufactured in a cutting edge 5 nm process, allowing 54% improvement of performance per watt. While the GPU is efficient, it does still use more power than the previous generation. At 355 W total board power that is packed in a smaller package than ever, with 300 mm² GCD that contains 165% more transistors per mm² than the previous generation. Overall these GPUs feature 58 billion transistors for 61 TFLOPs of performance.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX Performance Claims Extrapolated, Performs Within Striking Distance of RTX 4090
AMD on Thursday launched the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT RDNA3 graphics cards. With these, the company claims to have repeated its feat of a 50+ percent performance/Watt gain over the previous-generation, which propelled the RX 6000-series to competitiveness with NVIDIA's fastest RTX 30-series SKUs. AMD's performance claims for the Radeon RX 7900 XTX put the card at anywhere between 50% to 70% faster than the company's current flagship, the RX 6950 XT, when tested at 4K UHD resolution. Digging through these claims, and piecing together relevant information from the Endnotes, HXL was able to draw an extrapolated performance comparison between the RX 7900 XTX, the real-world tested RTX 4090, and previous-generation flagships RTX 3090 Ti and RX 6950 XT.

The graphs put the Radeon RX 7900 XTX menacingly close to the GeForce RTX 4090. In Watch_Dogs Legion, the RTX 4090 is 6.4% faster than the RX 7900 XTX. Cyberpunk 2077 and Metro Exodus see the two cards evenly matched, with a delta under 1%. The RTX 4090 is 4.4% faster with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022). Accounting for the pinch of salt usually associated with launch-date first-party performance claims; the RX 7900 XTX would end up within 5-10% of the RTX 4090, but pricing changes everything. The RTX 4090 is a $1,599 (MSRP) card, whereas the RX 7900 XTX is $999. Assuming the upcoming RTX 4080 (16 GB) is around 10% slower than the RTX 4090; the main clash for this generation will be between the RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XTX. Even here, AMD gets ahead with pricing, as the RTX 4080 was announced with an MSRP of $1,199 (exactly 20% pricier than the RX 7900 XTX). With the FSR 3.0 Fluid Motion announcement, AMD also blunted NVIDIA's DLSS 3 Frame Generation performance advantage.

ASUS First OEM to Show Off Custom Radeon RX 7900-series Cards
Although we're over a month away from any kind of actual availability of AMD's just announced Radeon RX 7900 cards, ASUS has already shown off what is the first custom Radeon RX 7900-series cards. The two cards are the TUF Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XTX and unsurprisingly the TUF Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XT. ASUS has gone for what the company calls a 3.63-slot design and the TUF cards appear to be a fair bit taller than the AMD reference designs. ASUS has gone with larger fans, which requires a bigger cooler shroud and the company claims they provide 13.8 percent more airflow and an eight percent increase in static pressure compared to its last gen—presumably Radeon RX 6900—cards, while maintaining the same noise level.

ASUS claims to have added wider vents on the backplate to help improve airflow and to have increased the total heat dissipation area by 22.8 percent, whatever that actually means, as ASUS didn't show off the rear of its cards. The TUF Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XTX sports three 8-pin power connectors and has a 17+4 power stage design. Unlike AMD's reference cards, the ASUS TUF cards won't have a USB-C port at the rear, as the company has gone for three DP 2.1 ports and one HDMI 2.1 port. ASUS didn't reveal clock speeds and the remaining specs are as announced by AMD.

AMD Announces the $999 Radeon RX 7900 XTX and $899 RX 7900 XT, 5nm RDNA3, DisplayPort 2.1, FSR 3.0 FluidMotion
AMD today announced the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT gaming graphics cards debuting its next-generation RDNA3 graphics architecture. The two new cards come at $999 and $899—basically targeting the $1000 high-end premium price point.
Both cards will be available on December 13th, not only the AMD reference design, which is sold through AMD.com, but also custom-design variants from the many board partners on the same day. AIBs are expected to announce their products in the coming weeks.

The RX 7900 XTX is priced at USD $999, and the RX 7900 XT is $899, which is a surprisingly small difference of only $100, for a performance difference that will certainly be larger, probably in the 20% range. Both Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT are using the PCI-Express 4.0 interface, Gen 5 is not supported with this generation. The RX 7900 XTX has a typical board power of 355 W, or about 95 W less than that of the GeForce RTX 4090. The reference-design RX 7900 XTX uses conventional 8-pin PCIe power connectors, as would custom-design cards, when they come out. AMD's board partners will create units with three 8-pin power connectors, for higher out of the box performance and better OC potential. The decision to not use the 16-pin power connector that NVIDIA uses was made "well over a year ago", mostly because of cost, complexity and the fact that these Radeons don't require that much power anyway.

AMD Navi 31 RDNA3 GPU Pictured
Here's the first picture of the "Navi 31" GPU at the heart of AMD's fastest next-generation graphics cards. Based on the RDNA3 graphics architecture, this will mark an ambitious attempt by AMD to build the first multi-chip module (MCM) client GPU featuring more than one logic die. MCM GPUs aren't new in the enterprise space with Intel's "Ponte Vecchio," but this would be the first such GPU meant for hardcore gaming graphics products. AMD had made MCM GPUs in the past, but those have been packages with just one logic die, surrounded by memory stacks. "Navi 31" is an MCM of as many as eight logic dies, and no memory stacks (no, those aren't HBM stacks in the picture below).

It's rumored that "Navi 31" features one or two SIMD chiplets dubbed GCDs, featuring the GPU's main number crunching machinery, the RDNA3 compute units. These chiplets are likely built on the most advanced silicon fabrication node, likely TSMC 5 nm EUV, but we'll see. The GDDR6 memory controllers handling the chip's 384-bit wide GDDR6 memory interface, will be located on separate chiplets built on a slightly older node, such as TSMC 6 nm. This is not multi-GPU-a-stick, because both SIMD chiplets have uniform access to the entire 384-bit wide memory bus (which is not 2x 192-bit but 1x 384-bit), besides the other ancillaries. The "Navi 31" MCM are expected to be surrounded by JEDEC-standard 20 Gbps GDDR6 memory chips.

Default (PR) CHERRY MX Black Clear-Top Mechanical Switch Announced

CHERRY MX, the market leader and expert for mechanical switches in keyboards, unveils the MX Black Clear-Top, a new edition of a switch that was produced in the 1980s and is known in the community as "Nixie". Due to the characteristic exterior and the smooth switching feel with rich acoustics, this variant is considered an insider tip for fans of linear MX switches. Since the switch, which was specially manufactured for Nixdorf Computer AG at the time, was only produced for a few years, the original "Nixie" is highly sought after and is only available second-hand or can be found as an expensive rarity on various sales platforms. The now-introduced MX Black Clear-Top follows in the footsteps of this legend but is optimized by current manufacturing processes and materials. In addition, there are two different variants to cover the diverse needs of DIY enthusiasts and the switch community: one with first-class high-performance lubricant in perfect dosage, which was applied in a high-precision, automated process, and one without pre-lubrication.

The community name "Nixie" originates from a variant of the classic MX Black, which was specially adapted to the wishes of the former German company Nixdorf Computer AG: The requirement was a milky upper part of the housing, an increase in the actuating force from 60 to 63.5 centinewtons, as well as the relatively rare solution at the time of having a diode integrated into the switch for n-key rollover, or NKRO for short. The switch was mainly found in the "Nixdorf CT06-CT07/2 M Softkeys" keyboards for use on minicomputers, servers, or terminals. The production of these customer switches took place at CHERRY until the end of the 1980s, which makes the Nixie switch an absolute rarity these days, and even used ones are rarely found.

AMD Discounts the Ryzen 5000-series on its Official US Web Store, Ryzen 7 5800X3D Goes for US$329
AMD has dropped the price on most of its Ryzen 5000-series CPUs on its official web store and some models have been discounted by as much as US$250 over the MSRP. However, the most interesting discount here might be the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which has been discounted from US$449 to US$329, which makes it a pretty good deal for anyone considering getting what is one of the best CPUs out there for gaming.

Unfortunately, AMD's discounted deal appears to have been very popular and as such the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is currently sold out. It's unclear if AMD will add more stock at the same price point, but what is clear is that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a popular CPU, especially at what now appears to be the right price point. As mentioned, AMD has discounted its entire lineup of Ryzen 5000-series CPUs, so if you've been on the fence whether to upgrade or not, now might be a good time to do so. That said, most online retailers appear to be offering the same CPUs at the same, or at least almost the same price, making the Ryzen 7 5800X3D the only real bargain to be had, if it comes back in stock. Unfortunately, AMD hasn't discounted its CPUs in other regions, so if you're outside of the US, you're not going to see any special deals if you visit the AMD web store.

Default (PR) Corsair Gaming Reports Third Quarter 2022 Financial Results
