ASUS TAICHI doubles the displays for Windows 8

ASUS has unveiled the TAICHI, a new twist on the convertible notebook with not one but two displays, and running Windows 8. Ostensibly a regular notebook when opened, complete with a 13.3-inch display, keyboard, trackpad and a 3rd Gen Core i7 processor, close the lid and you’ll find a second screen: this time an 11.6-inch panel.

ASUS Transformer Book takes hybrid tablets mainstream

ASUS isn’t done with its unusual form-factors; the company also has the new ASUS Transformer Book series, a range of 11.6-, 13- and 14-inch notebooks with detachable touchscreen displays. Running a choice of Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 chips and discrete NVIDIA GeForce graphics, the Transformer Book line-up have Full HD IPS displays that support multitouch control.


There’s also 4GB of DDR3 memory and USB 3.0 connectivity, as well as a choice of SSD and HDD storage. ASUS is also pretty keen to flag up its speaker technology, too, with the ASUS SonicMaster audio promising decent bass despite the dimensions.


ASUS Tablet 600 pairs Transformer tablet with Windows RT

ASUS has thrown Windows RT and its Transformer concept of keyboard-docking tablets together, and come up with the ASUS Tablet 600, a version running the version of Windows 8 for Tegra 3. NVIDIA’s quadcore is paired with 2GB of RAM and a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 IPS+ touchscreen just desperate for you to swipe and tap through the Metro UI.


Under the hood there’s WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, along with a digital compass and NFC. The front-facing camera is a step up from the usual Windows fare, running at 2-megapixels, while the rear camera is a whopping 8-megapixels with auto-focus and an LED flash.


ASUS Tablet 810 slaps full Windows 8 on a Medfield tablet

ASUS has a new Transformer for Windows 8 lovers, an 11.6-inch model for those who might find the Transformer Book a little large for true mobile use. The ASUS Tablet 810 runs Windows 8 – rather than the ARM-centric Windows RT – thanks to its Intel Medfield-series Atom processor, paired in this case with 2GB of memory.



The display – larger than the new RT-based Tablet 600, also announced today, which is 10.1-inches - runs at 1366 x 768 resolution and uses a Super IPS+ panel. ASUS has also taken advantage of Windows 8′s support for active digitizers, slapping Wacom technology inside so as to allow for both digital pen and 10-point multitouch finger control.

Storage is courtesy of a 64GB eMMC drive, helping keep bulk down, and there’s NFC support, too. Dock the screen section into the keyboard, and you get a second battery, a QWERTY keyboard, trackpad, and more USB connectivity.



Asus unveils new RT-AC66U 802.11ac Wi-Fi router

Asus has unveiled a new next-generation Wi-Fi router called the RT-AC66U. The new Wi-Fi router supports 802.11ac 5G protocols offering wireless speeds of up to 1.75 Gbps. Other than the new 802.11ac protocol, the router also supports dual band gigabit wireless on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies.



Other features for the router include Asus AiRadar signal amplification and shaping technology. The router features and easy setup system and supports multiple SSIDs along with IPv6. The little router even has a USB port allowing it to support 3G connectivity, FTP, and DLNA. The router can also act as a print server.
The 802.11ac technology promises a massive improvement in networking speed when compared 802.11n with up to three times faster data transfer speeds. The routers 5 GHz bandwidth is good for up to 1.3 Gbps with a 2.4 GHz band operating up to 450 Mbps. Pricing and availability on the new router are unannounced at this time.



ASUS Transformer AiO is 18.4-inch docking Win8/Android tablet


ASUS’ Computex 2012 line-up isn’t all notebooks and tablets: there’s also the ASUS Transformer AiO, a dual-booting Android and Windows 8 all-in-one desktop. A vast, dockable 18.4-inch touchscreen – considerably larger than the maximum 14-inches of the Transformer Book line – the Transformer AiO has a removable screen section that can drop into a base station for desk use.



The screen itself is an LED-backlit panel with 10-point multitouch support; ASUS hasn’t said what resolution it’s running at. A button press flicks it into Android mode from the main Windows 8 OS.
