July 22 (Bloomberg) -- Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s Mediaset SpA, RAI state television and Telecom Italia SpA’s media unit today announced the creation of a new satellite TV platform to compete against Rupert Murdoch’s Sky Italia SpA.
Mediaset and Rai will each hold a 48.25 percent stake in the new company, TivuSat, while Telecom Italia Media will hold a 3.5 percent share, according to a statement handed out by the company in Rome. The service will be free except for the purchase of a decoder and smart card, which the company estimates will cost “less than” 100 euros ($141.86). ''
