Details of Intel's Barlow Ridge Thunderbolt 5 Controller Leaks
erial leaker @yuuki_ans on X/Twitter has released details on Intel's upcoming Barlow Rridge Thunderbolt 5 controller which will be known as the JHL9580 or JHL9540 depending on the SKU. The good news is that Intel has finally moved to PCIe 4.0 for the bus interface, which was expected due to the increased bandwidth on offer by Thunderbolt 5 over Thunderbolt 3 and 4. Barlow Ridge will use a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface to connect to the host and it appears that the earlier leak that suggested native [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] might be incorrect, as there are diagrams showing Barlow Ridge connected to Arrow Lake-S CPUs.
Besides the faster bus, Thunderbolt 5 brings asymmetrical data transmission support which means that for display applications there will be a 120/40 Gbps mode, whereas for data only applications Thunderbolt 5 will deliver a symmetrical 80 Gbps mode. We should point out that this only appears to apply to the JHL9580 SKU, which also supports 40 Gbps USB4 speeds, whereas the JHL9540 for some reason remains a Thunderbolt 4 controller. That said, both of the Barlow Ridge SKUs get support for 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, something that was lacking in previous Thunderbolt implementations. There will also be support for DisplayPort 2.1 via DP Alt Mode with full UHBR20 support when used with a DP80 certified cable. Actual data transfers are limited to the 64 Gbps PCIe 4.0 interface to the host system, just like USB4, but this does at least give Thunderbolt 5 extra head room for display data even in symmetrical mode. The Barlow Ridge controllers appear to be connected directly to the Arrow Lake-S CPUs via the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, much in the same way USB4 host controllers connect to AMD's Ryzen 7000-series CPUS.[Only registered and activated users can see links. Show and Tell with the New Logitech Reach 2-in-1 Webcam and Overhead C
Content creators often find themselves not just needing a static positioned camera to show their faces, but something to show on a bench or a table from an overhead viewpoint, and which can be easily repositioned. Perhaps the best example would be game streamers wanting a viewport showing their user inputs in real time; or an engineering content creator wanting to show something on their bench from top. For these applications and more, Logitech launched the new Logitech Reach, a 2-in-1 Full HD webcam and overhead camera. The star attraction here isn't the camera itself, but its armature, which has been meticulously engineered by Logitech to provide a near-spherical freedom of movement for the camera. Reposition it in real time, and it will hold its position—no need to turn any fasteners to hold it in place, but a simple locking mechanism.
The armature of the Logitech Reach allows full 360° freedom of motion for the camera along a radius. The second axis of movement is vertical, letting you raise of lower the distance between the camera and the object, so you could optically zoom. Besides horizontal and vertical movements, the camera itself is suspended along an pivot, for an added dimension. Moving the camera around is single handed, and practically effortless. The Reach allows content creators to easily and quickly change viewpoints, from themselves, to an object that they're trying to show their audience. The camera additionally features an up to 4.3x lossless zoom, autofocus, and intrinsic image stabilization from the armature.[Only registered and activated users can see links. AMD Software Adrenalin 24.1.1 WHQL Released With AMD Fluid Motion Fram
AMD has released the latest version of AMD Software Adrenalin drivers, version 24.1.1 WHQL. This is quite a big update as new drivers add support for the new AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card as well as bring day one support for Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth and TEKKEN 8 games. There is also support for AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF), which promises to boost FPS by up to 97 percent in any DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 game. In addition to AFMF, the new drivers also add AMD Video Upscaling, some additional video improvements, AMD Smart Technology Tab, AMD Assistant, and additional OS feature support. There are also several fixed issues.
According to AMD, AFMF improves performance by adding frame generation technology to AMD Radeon 700M, RX 6000, and RX 7000 series graphics cards, both desktop and notebook versions. AMD also claims that AFMF preserves image quality by dynamically disabling frame generation during fast visual motion. AMD claims up to 97 percent average increase in performance across select titles at 1080p resolution with enabled AFMF and FSR 2 set at Quality Mode on Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card, as well as up to 103 percent increase with the same settings and the same Radeon RX 7600 XT graphics card at 1440p resolution.

Multiplayer Elements Considered for Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel
Reuters has [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] with Adam Badowski and Michał Nowakowski—Joint Chief Executive Officers at CD Projekt. The news agency wanted to find out more about the current roster of projects in development across the Polish gaming group's globally-scattered studios. The Boston branch of CD Projekt Red has started work on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel—[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]—as revealed by Igor Sarzyńsk (Narrative Director) earlier this month. The sequel's scope could grow beyond a single-player campaign—Nowakowski mentioned in the Reuters interview that multiplayer elements are under consideration by "Orion's" design team, but he declined to elaborate any further. CD Projekt Red downed tools on Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer aspect around launch time (December 2020), and instead focused on improving the game's core functionality. A "triple-A" multiplayer spin-off was teased a few years ago, but abandoned at some point in favor of a new "more systematic, agile approach."
Badowski stated that "Orion" is still in a conceptual phase of development, and its team is expected to grow over the course of 2024—he anticipates around eighty members of staff by the end of the year. The North American team appears to be on a recruitment drive, while the European "Orion" gang is not expected to expand as quickly. The priority for CD Projekt's Warsaw studio is "Polaris" AKA the next mainline Witcher title—Badowski elaborated on their hiring goals in Poland: "we'd like to have around 400 people working on the project by the middle of the year." The joint-CEOs want "Polaris" entering into a full production stage in 2024—industry analysts predict a 2026 or 2027 launch window. Reuters brought up the obligatory question about artificial intelligence's place in CDPR operations—Nowakowski responded with: "We think that AI is something that can help improve certain processes in game production, but not replace people." When grilled about lessons learned from launch day disasters, Badowski stated that his company's production pipelines have undergone a positive overhaul: "We believe that in the future we'll avoid a premiere like the one we faced with Cyberpunk 2077"[Only registered and activated users can see links. Sony CEO Wants PlayStation Ecosystem to Expand into PC, AI & Cloud Ter

News outlets have sluggishly picked up on some interesting tidbits from the November 2023 interview—the Sony boss has discussed his [Only registered and activated users can see links. Yoshida-san has an all-encompassing vision for the brand: "In short, it will be ubiquitous wherever there is computing users will be able to play their favorite games seamlessly, gamers will be able to find a place to play in different spaces, while PlayStation will remain our core product, we will expand our gaming experiences to PC, Mobile and Cloud." Gamers on the PC platform have to wait roughly two to three years for PlayStation exclusive titles to breakaway from home consoles origins—it is encouraging to hear that a greater number of conversions could be in the pipeline (with shorter lead times...hopefully).
The discussion moved onto game subscription services—a [Only registered and activated users can see links. At the same time, people usually play one game at the time, so an all-you-can-eat type of many games may not be so valuable compared with video streaming services. We have kind of balanced a hybrid service on PlayStation Network: subscription as well as paid content." Microsoft is a market leader with its Xbox and PC Game Pass services, now bolstered with a takeover of Activision Blizzard—the Sony CEO remained calm regarding his firm's main rival: "Healthy competition is necessary for the Games Industry to grow and at Sony we believe it is important to provide gamers with different options to play so we will continue our efforts to achieve this."[Only registered and activated users can see links. (PR) Apple announces changes to iOS, Safari, and the App Store in the
Apple today announced changes to iOS, Safari, and the App Store impacting developers' apps in the European Union (EU) to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The changes include more than 600 new APIs, expanded app analytics, functionality for alternative browser engines, and options for processing app payments and distributing iOS apps. Across every change, Apple is introducing new safeguards that reduce—but don't eliminate—new risks the DMA poses to EU users. With these steps, Apple will continue to deliver the best, most secure experience possible for EU users.
The new options for processing payments and downloading apps on iOS open new avenues for malware, fraud and scams, illicit and harmful content, and other privacy and security threats. That's why Apple is introducing protections—including Notarization for iOS apps, an authorization for marketplace developers, and disclosures on alternative payments—to reduce risks and deliver the best, most secure experience possible for users in the EU. Even with these safeguards in place, many risks remain.[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] [Only registered and activated users can see links. Tipster Claims AMD "Kraken Point" APU Configured with Zen 5 & Zen 5c C
Everest ([Only registered and activated users can see links. The rumor mill has designated these next-gen mobile processors as 2025 follow-ups to the recently launched [Only registered and activated users can see links. The tipster's initial social media post only mentioned the presence of both Zen 5 and Zen 5c cores within Kraken Point processors, but he later clarified that a total of eight cores would include four large units and four smaller types. TPU's [Only registered and activated users can see links. Everest's continuous flow of insider information reveals that "Kraken Point" shares many "Hawk Point" traits—four workgroup processors (WGP) could be present on final retail products, granting eight compute units (8 CUs in total). He responded to a query regarding AMD's choice of integrated graphics technology—the succinct answer being RDNA 3.5. Past leaks allege that XDNA 2 will drive the NPU side of things—offering a performance range of around 45 to 50 TOPS. The Kraken Point APU is believed to be sticking with a safe monolithic die design, manufactured on a non-specific 4 nm process. Team Red is rumored to be in TSMC's order books for all sorts of next generation silicon.[Only registered and activated users can see links. Intel Lunar Lake-MX to Embed Samsung LPDDR5X Memory on SoC Package
According to sources close to Seoul Economy, and reported by DigiTimes, Intel has reportedly chosen Samsung as a supplier for its next-generation Lunar Lake processors, set to debut later this year. The report notes that Samsung will provide LPDDR5X memory devices for integration into Intel's processors. This collaboration could be a substantial win for Samsung, given Intel's projection to distribute millions of Lunar Lake CPUs in the coming years. However, it's important to note that this information is based on a leak and has not been officially confirmed. Designed for ultra-portable laptops, the Lunar Lake-MX platform is expected to feature 16 GB or 32 GB of LPDDR5X-8533 memory directly on the processor package. This on-package memory approach aims to minimize the platform's physical size while enhancing performance over traditional memory configurations. With Lunar Lake's exclusive support for on-package memory, Samsung's LPDDR5X-8533 products could significantly boost sales.
While Samsung is currently in the spotlight, it remains unclear if it will be the sole LPDDR5X memory provider for Lunar Lake. Intel's strategy involves selling processors with pre-validated memory, leaving the door open for potential validation of similar memory products from competitors like Micron and SK Hynix. Thanks to a new microarchitecture, Intel has promoted its Lunar Lake processors as a revolutionary leap in performance-per-watt efficiency. The processors are expected to utilize a multi-chipset design with Foveros technology, combining CPU and GPU chipsets, a system-on-chip tile, and dual memory packages. The CPU component is anticipated to include up to eight cores, a mix of four high-performance Lion Cove and four energy-efficient Skymont cores, alongside advanced graphics, cache, and AI acceleration capabilities. Apple's use of on-package memory in its M-series chips has set a precedent in the industry, and with Intel's Lunar Lake MX, this trend could extend across the thin-and-light laptop market. However, systems requiring more flexibility in terms of configuration, repair, and upgrades will likely continue to employ standard memory solutions like SODIMMs and/or the new [Only registered and activated users can see links. Nintendo's 2017 launch model sported a 6.2-inch LCD display, a more portable Lite version arrived in 2019 with a 5.5-inch display, and a larger 7-inch OLED iteration was released back in 2021.
