U.S. Considers a Government Stake in Intel, Helping Foundry Stay Afloa
The United States government, under the Trump administration, is reportedly considering taking a stake in Intel to help the company, and more importantly, its foundry division, stay afloat. At the beginning of the week, we [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] that Intel is collaborating with the Trump administration, as Intel's CEO Lip-Bu Tan was summoned to a meeting in the White House. However, it seems that a deal is nearing materialization. The latest proposed idea is that the U.S. government will take a state-owned stake in Intel, utilizing various methods of equity investments, guaranteed government purchases, loans, private financing, and other means to maintain the feasibility of Intel's and its leading-edge manufacturing operations. According to Bloomberg's private sources, a potential deal will focus on establishing two new, leading-edge node manufacturing plants in Licking County, Ohio.
Another interesting tidbit is that it is not the first time the U.S. government, specifically under the direction of President Donald Trump, has gotten involved in making a deal with a third-party company. A lesser-known name, [Only registered and activated users can see links. Under the Trump administration, domestic companies are securing new deals to ensure that strategically important companies remain operational. For the U.S. national interest and strategic importance, continuing Intel Foundry's research, development, and manufacturing of leading-edge nodes is crucial. When asked about the deal, an Intel spokesperson commented, "We look forward to continuing our work with the Trump administration to advance these shared priorities, but we are not going to comment on rumors or speculation." Intel stock is up 7% on the news, so the market is pricing in the deal with high confidence that it will entirely go through.[Only registered and activated users can see links. Sony Rethinks PlayStation Dev Kits with PCIe Solution
According to a new patent filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. at the [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...], the console maker may be moving to a simpler model for game development by putting the necessary hardware for game development into a host PC or server. Patent W02025170845 details a design that effectively puts "compute resources substantially similar to compute resources of a retail game console" onto a PCIe card and allows communication and translation between the host system and the on-board APU, storage, and other console hardware via a specialized management engine.
The patent details that this idea was partially inspired by the difficulties developing games for proprietary console hardware, but it also references cloud gaming, suggesting these slot-in cards may also come in handy as cloud compute modules that can be used in servers to support game developers who don't have access to dev kit hardware. A slot-in solution like this could also theoretically allow developers more freedom when it comes to testing and diagnosis, since they would be able to use hardware and software testing tools connected to the host system, instead of having to rely on built-in diagnostics and hardware support. The patent also specifically mentions being able to capture video from the host system, which could also help diagnostics and game optimization.[Only registered and activated users can see links. MSI Teases WoW "Midnight Edition" GeForce RTX 50 SUPER GPU
MSI will release a limited World of Warcraft Midnight edition GeForce RTX graphics card in 2026, the company previewed at Gamescom in Cologne. Blizzard confirmed at the show that the Midnight expansion is due on or before June 30, 2026, and MSI's prototype borrows the expansion's palette with black, white, and blue accents applied to its Gaming Trio design. The collaboration is clearly meant to marry hardware and game lore, with Midnight itself focused on the clash between the Void and the forces of Light, an assault on the Sunwell, and the long-requested addition of player housing.
Given the timing of the WoW update for mid-2026, MSI's special edition is likely destined to arrive alongside NVIDIA's rumored GeForce RTX 50 SUPER refresh also rumored for the next year, which is expected to feature higher core counts, larger memory configurations, and increased power limits for several SKUs. There are already rumors of models with roughly 10,752 CUDA cores and 24 GB of next-generation GDDR7 for an RTX 5080 SUPER, although MSI has not confirmed any technical details for its Midnight card, and the Cologne sample was shown as a concept rather than a final product. Details on pricing, exact specifications, and preorder dates are expected to arrive from the companies closer to the release.[Only registered and activated users can see links. Sony Increases PlayStation 5 Console Pricing by $50, Cites Global Econ
Sony has officially increased prices of its PlayStation 5 consoles, with the increase spanning the regular PlayStation 5, Digital Edition, and the Pro SKU. As a result, we've made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21." The new pricing (bold), increased by $50 across all three versions, is as follows:

Upcoming Valve Fremont Console Surfaces on Geekbench with 6-Core AMD Z
Valve might be gearing up for its next big piece of gaming hardware, codenamed Fremont, and early benchmark leaks give us a first detailed picture of what's inside. The system showed up on Geekbench with a custom AMD chip (Hawk Point 2 family), built on the Zen 4 architecture and produced on a 4 nm process. It looks to feature 6 cores and 12 threads running at 3.2 GHz base clock with boost frequency up to 4.8 GHz. On the memory side, the chip carries 16 MB of L3 cache and 6 MB of L2 cache. Graphics power comes from a Radeon RX 7000-series GPU (RDNA 3), likely offering a big step up from the Steam Deck's older RDNA 2 setup.
In Geekbench 6, Fremont scored 2412 points in single-core and 7451 points in multicore. Interestingly, the tested unit only had 8 GB RAM (DDR5-5600), less than the Steam Deck's 16 GB LPDDR5, yet still nearly doubled performance thanks to the newer architecture. For context, the Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED use a Zen 2-based chip with 4 cores, 8 threads, base 2.8 GHz, boost 3.5 GHz, plus just 4 MB L3 and 2 MB L2 cache. Comparing the two, Fremont's CPU alone looks like a massive leap forward. The GPU bump from 8 compute units of RDNA 2 to an RX 7600-level RDNA 3 design is also significant.[Only registered and activated users can see links. ASUS ROG Xbox Ally Models Launching October 16 This Year
ASUS's long-teased ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X have debuted at Gamescom 2025 in Cologne, and availability is what matters to most gamers. According to the official Xbox website, both models will be available on October 16, with the option to enter your email address to receive an availability notification. The ROG Xbox Ally is built around an AMD Ryzen Z2 A-series processor with four Zen 2 cores, eight threads and eight RDNA 2 GPU cores. It includes 16 GB of LPDDR5X-6400 RAM, a 512 GB M.2 SSD and a 60 Wh battery, while the ROG Xbox Ally X uses the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, an 8-core, 16-thread Zen 5 APU with 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores and an integrated NPU, paired with 24 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM, a 1 TB M.2 SSD and an 80 Wh battery.
Both versions utilize the Windows 11 OS, with some customization during the installation process. This includes the Xbox full-screen experience and the Xbox button that opens an enhanced Game Bar overlay in the OS. Xbox is also working closely on performance tuning. Xbox ROG Ally X offers advanced shader delivery, which preloads a game's shaders during download, allowing supported titles to launch and run significantly faster on first play (reports cite up to 10× in some cases) and use less battery, with broader support being added. Thanks to the integrated NPU, the handheld also features Automatic Super Resolution, which utilizes the onboard NPU to upscale frames rendered at lower resolutions to higher-resolution output, while helping preserve the framerate without requiring changes from developers.[Only registered and activated users can see links. AMD B650 Chipset Reportedly Ends Production, B840/B850 to Carry the Se
AMD has reportedly ended production and supply of its widely used B650 chipset, notifying motherboard manufacturers that they can no longer place new orders and advising a transition to the newer B850 family as the mainstream AM5 solution. Vendors are doing structured sell-offs of existing B650 inventory, and industry briefings indicate most clearance plans should be completed by October 2025, although distribution and retail stocks are likely to trickle through for months afterward. The B650 and B650E were introduced in October 2022 as AMD's mid-range AM5 offerings, initially priced between $125 and $150 before falling below $100 for some models. AMD's 800-series, including B850 and entry-level B840 boards, began rolling into partner catalogs in early 2025 and standardize wider PCIe 5.0 support compared with most B650 designs, which typically reserved Gen 5 lanes for NVMe storage while leaving GPU Gen 5 optional.
For DIY system builders, the change should translate into deeper discounts on remaining B650 boards and faster availability of B850 options as manufacturers refresh product lines. Existing 600-series motherboards will continue to support current AM5 CPUs, and many Ryzen 9000 and 9000X3D processors ship with BIOS support baked in. That preserves strong value for builders who prioritize price over the latest I/O features, while enthusiasts seeking standardized PCIe 5.0 for GPUs will find clearer choices in the 800-series. Smaller-form-factor B650 boards may persist longer in some channels, so shoppers interested in compact builds should closely monitor clearance listings for the best deals.[Only registered and activated users can see links.
