Tutorial - GPS pe iPhone (fara conexiune la internet)

Tutorialul este bazat pe cel documentat si scris initial de nasty. Adaptat pentru xGPS si noua versiune GMDL. Valabil doar pentru iPhone 3G (iPhone 2G/iPod Touch doar cu adaptoare GPS externe).
Pasul 1
Pe iPhone instaleaza din Cydia aplicatia xGPS. Este diponibila gratuit.
Pasul 2

Pasul 3
Dezarhiveaza pachetul descarcat si deschide aplicatia accesand “GMDL/bin/Debug/Global Map Download Tool.exe”
Pasul 4
Bifeaza in partea stanga “Open Street Map” iar in chenarul de cautare din dreapta locatia pe care vrei sa o descarci apoi centreaza harta (prin zoom si navigare), foloseste si butonul “Preview” pentru a te orienta.

Pasul 5
Apasa butonul “Download” din partea stanga sus si selecteaza un director in care vrei ca harta sa fie descarcata.

Pasul 6
Noua fereastra contine harta selectata la pasul anterior. Poti acum deselecta anumite zone (fara sosele sau alte inscriptii) pentru a micsora pachetul. Debifeaza 1X
Pasul 7
Apasa butonul lung din partea de sus a ferestrei si asteapta ca harta sa fie descarcata (pentru Bucuresti si imprejurimi, cu o conexiune decenta, poate dura chiar 2 ore).
Pasul 8
In partea de sus a GMDL apasa butonul “iPhone” iar in noua fereastra bifeaza “xGPS”. Output reprezinta locatia unde vor fi salvate fisierele ce ulterior trebuie copiate pe telefon. Apasa Process si asteapta adaptarea hartilor.

Pasul 9
In directorul indicat la “Output” vei gasi un fisier cu terminatia .db (numit default “xGPS_map.db”). Acesta trebuie copiat pe iPhone prin SSH in “var/mobile/Library” apoi setate permisiunile la 777.
Pasul 10
Restartea telefonul si porneste aplicatia xGPS. In setari comuta pe “Offline Mode” iar in ecranul principal apasa “Enable GPS”. Iconita din partea dreapta sus indica semalul GPS-ului iar cea din stanga jos indica viteza cu care calatoresti.

Hartile exportate din Global Maps pentru a rula in xGPS nu suporta turn by turn insa cei ce au realizat aplicatia ne asigura ca exista pe lista de prioritati.
EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) solicita companiei Apple sa retraga declaratiile, protejand astfel inovatia, dreptul la libera exprimare si drepturile consumatorului. Legile privind modificarea unui device de acest gen difera de la o tara la alta iar in Romania Jailbreak-ul este complet legal (untill further notice) :)

Apple’s iPhone, now the best-selling cellular phone in the U.S., has been designed with restrictions that prevent owners from running applications obtained from sources other than Apple’s own iTunes App Store. “Jailbreaking” is the term used for removing these restrictions, thereby liberating your phone from Apple’s software “jail.” Estimates put the number of iPhone owners who have jailbroken their phones in the hundreds of thousands.
As part of the 2009 DMCA rulemaking, EFF has asked the Copyright Office to recognize an exemption to the DMCA to permit jailbreaking in order to allow iPhone owners to use their phones with applications that are not available from Apple’s store (e.g., turn-by-turn directions, using the iPhone camera for video, laptop tethering).
Apple’s copyright infringement claim starts with the observation that jailbroken iPhones depend on modified versions of Apple’s bootloader and operating system software. True enough — we said as much in our technical white paper describing the jailbreak process. But the courts have long recognized that copying software while reverse engineering is a fair use when done for purposes of fostering interoperability with independently created software, a body of law that Apple conveniently fails to mention.
As for the DMCA violation, Apple casts its lot with the likes of laser printer makers and garage door opener companies who argue that the DMCA entitles them to block interoperability with anything that hasn’t been approved in advance. Apple justifies this by claiming that opening the iPhone to independently created applications will compromise safety, security, reliability, and swing the doors wide for those who want to run pirated software.
If this sounds like FUD, that’s because it is. One need only transpose Apple’s arguments to the world of automobiles to recognize their absurdity. Sure, GM might tell us that, for our own safety, all servicing should be done by an authorized GM dealer using only genuine GM parts. Toyota might say that swapping your engine could reduce the reliability of your car. And Mazda could say that those who throw a supercharger on their Miatas frequently exceed the legal speed limit.
But we’d never accept this corporate paternalism as a justification for welding every car hood shut and imposing legal liability on car buffs tinkering in their garages. After all, the culture of tinkering (or hacking, if you prefer) is an important part of our innovation economy.
Of course, many iPhone owners will be happy to choose solely from the applications that Apple is willing to approve, just like many Ford owners are happy relying exclusively on their local Ford dealer. But if you want to pop the hood, the DMCA surely shouldn’t stand in your way.

RipDev pune la dispozitia dezvoltatorilor de aplicatii pentru iPhone (contra-cost) un sistem de protectie anti-piraterie, spune ei, “imbatabil”.

Raspunsul comunitatii de crackeri a fost unul prompt, scurt si la obiect: “Nu exista aplicatie care sa nu poata fi deblocata”.

De cateva zile aplicatia Skype este disponibila in App Store. Din primele feedback-uri primite aplicatia are mici probleme de stabilitate, mai ales pe iPhone-urile cu Jailbreak. In schimb, fericitii utilizatori de iPhone-uri cu firmware-ul 3.0 pot utiliza VoIP si prin 3G, ceea ce face aplicatia mult mai interesanta. Unii utilizatori au semnalat ca utilizand Skype via iPhone, nu apar ca vizibili pentru alti utilizatori de Skype (neconfirmat).
Atentie ! Pentru utilizatorii cu Jailbreak: Pentru a creste stabilitate aplicatiei e foarte important sa updatati MobileSubstrate din Cydia.

Cu mici bug-uri sau fara, Skype promite sa aduca pentru utilizatorii de iPhone un plus de valoare, costul redus al convorbirilor via 3G (gratis in alte tari) facand aceasta aplicatie o alternativa interesanta la comunicarea prin reteaua GSM.

Ultimele patch-uri si imbunatatiri din Cydia
PushMod este un mic patch, utilitar disponibil free in Cydia care imita functia Push si verifica automat, la un interval de 1 minut daca exista mesaje noi in Inbox. Isi face treaba cu orice cont de mail adaugat si activat pe iPhone.
Dezavantajul major este ca bateria telefonului va fi epuizata rapid in conditiile in care conexiunea la internet trebuie mentinuta activa.
CyDelete adauga optiunea de stergere (acel X din stanga aplicatiilor atunci cand sunt apasate indelungat) si aplicatiilor din Cydia.
Lockscreen Clock Hide face exact ceea ce ii spune numele, ascunde ceasul din LockScreen
SweetMail afiseaza mailurile necititie in Lock Screen
Am un iPhone la abonament, l-am inregistrat pe apple, pot accesa iTunes si appstore. Intrebarea e daca il crackuiesc le mai pot accesa? Adica sa bag si programe sparte...
