RAI suspends smart card distribution
July 30, 2012 11.22 Europe/London By Julian Clover
'' Italian public broadcaster RAI has suspended the distribution of smart cards for its Tivusat service.
It follows the judgment of the Lazio Regional Administrative Court on July 11 in the wake of a complaint by Sky Italia.
The action annulled RAI’s contract with Tivusat – in which it is a shareholder – where it was required to promote the Eutelsat-delivered platform.
Consumers looking for non-subscription access to RAI channels over satellite can now only obtain the card in conjunction with a Tivusat receiver or conditional access module.
Around 60,000 consumers, out of Tivusat’s 1,524,285 total, acquired their card through RAI. ''
