Intel "Arrow Lake" and "Lunar Lake" Are Safe from Voltage Stability Is
Intel's 13th and 14th generation processors, codenamed "Raptor Lake" and "Raptor Lake Refresh," have been notoriously riddled with stability issues over the past few months, up until Intel shipped the 0x129 microcode update on August 10 to fix these issues. However, the upcoming Intel Core Ultra 200 "Arrow Lake" and 200V series "Lunar Lake" processors will not have these issues as the company confirmed that an all-new design is used, even for the segment of power regulation. The official company note states: "Intel confirms that its next generation of processors, codenamed Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake, are not affected by the Vmin Shift Instability issue due to the new architectures powering both product families. Intel will ensure future product families are protected against the Vmin Shift Instability issue as well."
Originally, Intel's analysis for 13th—and 14th-generation processors indicated that stability issues stemmed from excessive voltage during processor operation. These voltage increases led to degradation, raising the minimum voltage necessary for stable performance, which Intel refers to as "Vmin shift." Given that the design phase of new architectures lasts for years, Intel has surely anticipated that the old power delivery could yield problems, and the upcoming CPU generations are now exempt from these issues, bringing stability once again to Intel's platforms. When these new products launch, all eyes will be on the platform's performance, but with a massive interest in stability testing from enthusiasts.[Only registered and activated users can see links. China Bought More Chipmaking Tools in the First Half of 2024 Than US,
According to a recent report from Nikkei, China has claimed the number one spot as the single highest spender on chipmaking tools. As the data from SEMI highlights, China spent a whopping $25 billion on key semiconductor tools in the first half of 2024, more than the US, Taiwan, and South Korea combined. And the train of acceleration for the Chinese semiconductor industry doesn't seem to be slowing down, as the country is expected to spend more than $50 billion for the entire year 2024. However, this equipment is not precisely leading-edge, as Chinese companies are under Western sanctions and are unable to source advanced EUV lithography tools for making sub-7 nm chips.
Most of the spending is allocated to mature node chipmaking facilities. These so-called "second tier" companies are driving the massive expenditures, and they are plentiful. Nikkei reports that there are at least ten firms that operate with mature nodes like 10/12/16 nm nodes. Being the biggest spender, China is also one of the primary revenue sources for many companies. For the US chipmaking tool companies like Applied Materials, Lam Research, and KLA, Chinese purchases accounted for 32%, 39%, and 44% of their latest quarterly revenue, respectively. Tokyo Electron recorded orders to China accounting for 49.9% of its revenues in June, while the Netherlands giant ASML also attributed 49%. Perhaps even more interesting is the expected outlook for 2025, which shows no signs of slowing down. The Chinese semiconductor industry must establish complete self-sufficiency, and massive capital expenditures are expected to continue.[Only registered and activated users can see links. Fake AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Processors used to Scam Buyers in the P2P Mar
A PC enthusiast in Romania bagged a good deal on a used AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor they found on OLX, an P2P and B2B online marketplace. Only, this wasn't a 7800X3D. In fact, it wasn't even a processor—a complete paperweight. While you can't return stuff you found on OLX, for deals executed through the platform, there are fraud protection measures that can withhold funds to the seller. Unfortunately, as most P2P deals on platforms such as OLX or even eBay, the buyer and seller tend to negotiate a lower price to cut out the platform costs, and transact privately. This is how the enthusiast ended up with the dud. Der8auer discovered this, and offered to buy the processor from him.
Der8auer installed the processor and turned on the machine, and of course it wouldn't POST. So this isn't a case of a cheaper (but functional) processor being mislabeled and sold at a higher price. Der8auer then proceeded to de-lid the processor (remove its integrated heat spreader) to discover that it's a complete fake. There's not a shred of silicon under it. The IHS is designed to mimic the shape of the cIOD and CCD. Der8auer provided some quick tips on how to spot a fake: start with the substrate's solder-mask color—it should be green. The SMDs should have a thin sealant, which protect them in machines with extreme cooling solutions that can have condensation. The substrate itself is thin (under 1 mm), whereas the real chip has about 1.3 mm in substrate thickness. Lastly, look for font and alignment errors on the chip label, on the IHS itself. Be careful when looking for 7800X3D processors in the P2P market, ensure you either have a platform that can refund you, or use a mode of payment that can (such as Paypal). Find Der8auer's video in the source link below.[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] [Only registered and activated users can see links. AMD Releases Off-branch Adrenalin 24.10.37.10 Drivers for Space Marine
AMD on Friday released an off-branch Preview driver that should interest those playing Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 this weekend. The Adrenalin 24.10.37.10 Preview Driver fixes intermittent driver timeout bugs facing the game during gameplay. The drivers also fix overly dark shadows or desaturated colors in "Black Myth: Wukong" when the Global Illumination setting is medium or higher. But these aren't the main payload of this driver release, it has to do with extending AMD Anti Lag 2 Vulkan API support for Counter-Strike 2. The technology works to reduce whole-system latency during gameplay, which should improve your responsiveness in online multiplayer gameplay.

Xockets Files Antitrust, Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against NVIDIA an
Xockets, inventor of Data Processing Unit (DPU) technology has launched a legal battle against NVIDIA and Microsoft. The lawsuit, filed in Texas, accuses the companies of forming an illegal cartel to avoid fair compensation for its patented DPU technology. Xockets claims that the Data Processing Unit technology its co-founder Parin Dalal invented in 2012 is fundamental to NVIDIA's GPU-enabled AI systems and Microsoft's AI platforms. The lawsuit alleges that NVIDIA has infringed on Xockets' patents since its 2020 acquisition of Mellanox, a deal NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang once called a "homerun." Xockets is seeking injunctions to halt the release of NVIDIA's new Blackwell GPU-enabled AI systems and Microsoft's use of these systems in their generative AI platforms.
The case touches on the bigger issues of intellectual property rights and the monopoly in the tech sector. Robert Cote, a Xockets board member, describes the suit as a fight against "Big Tech's predatory infringement playbook," accusing NVIDIA and Microsoft of making moves to devalue smaller companies' innovations. The AI revolution continues to transform the tech world, and this legal dispute may have a profound effect on the way intellectual property is valued and protected in the industry, possibly introducing new precedents for the relationship between tech giants and smaller innovators.[Only registered and activated users can see links. ASUS Launches GeForce RTX 4070 with GDDR6 Memory
ASUS became the first NVIDIA add-in card partner to debut a GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card with GDDR6 memory, away from its original memory type of GDDR6X. The RTX 4070 originally comes with 12 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory, yielding 504 GB/s of memory bandwidth. This ASUS card (which we hope is part of a larger refresh by NVIDIA to reduce costs of the RTX 4070), uses GDDR6 of a yet-unspecified speed. You do have 21 Gbps GDDR6 (non-X) in the market, but we imagine these to be expensive, which leaves NVIDIA with the 20 Gbps GDDR6 chip that's more readily available (which AMD uses in its RDNA 3 graphics cards), and 18 Gbps GDDR6 that the company itself uses in cards such as the RTX 4060 Ti. Any reduction in memory bandwidth would have to be compensated with increase in GPU clocks, but we don't see that happening here—the regular variant of the ASUS DUAL RTX 4070 GDDR6 EVO comes with the reference 2475 MHz maximum boost speed, while the DUAL OC variant only slightly cranks this up to 2520 MHz.[Only registered and activated users can see links.
