During October 2019, a new, upgraded version of the popular Linux Vu + Zero HD receiver will be available. The new Vu + Zero HD receiver in rev.2 will have new hardware that will handle not only the H.264 codec up to HD resolution but also the H.265 / HEVC up to HD (without 4K).
Unfortunately, the price will be higher than the standard version of Zero HD without HEVC.
Vu + Zero HD is one of the cheapest and popular Vu + receivers. There is still a demand for a low-cost Linux receiver, and perhaps that is why it has been launched with new hardware.
This change will obviously not bring much but will allow reception of programs up to HD resolution in the H.265 / HEVC codec. Ultra HD / 4K resolution will not be received. The receiver may be useful in some markets where it makes no sense to invest in a somewhat more expensive 4K receiver, such as the Zero 4K but the HEVC codec is needed, as some operators are switching to a more advanced codec. This applies, for example, to Slovakia, where platforms such as Antik Sat or Orange TV via satellite on the satellite Eutelsat 16A (16 ° E) provide some programs in HEVC.
Vu + Zero HD rev.2 in addition to the support of the HEVC codec (H.265 for HD), it also features the new UNI RCU IR 300 remote control, known from the higher Vu + 4K models, in addition to the Ultimo 4K.
The Vu + Zero HD rev.2 receiver has one access card reader. It is equipped with one DVB-S2 tuner. Inside the receiver is a Broadcom 7362 processor with a frequency of 751 MHz, 512 MB DDR3 DRAM and 256 MB Flash memory.
