Portugalia doreste privatizarea televiziuni de stat - RTP

Following an analysis of the possible privatisation models for public broadcaster RTP, the Portuguese government might privatise RTP1 and abandon RTP2.

In an effort to cut costs, the government might save €240 million a year when it cut its ties with the public broadcaster RTP (television) and RDP (radio).

According to local reports, the prime minister and the minister for social communications, Miguel Relvas, decided to issue a concession for the public broadcasters to a private operator for a period of 15 to 25 years, maintaining the public property of the company.

However, other reports suggest that the government has not yet reached a decision and that selling of the public broadcasters would be unconstitutional.

The free-to-air Portuguese TV landscape is made up of public broadcaster RTP (with two national channels, RTP1 and RTP2) and two private broadcasters, SIC and TVI.
