Phoenix to launch HD channel

Phoenix, the event and documentary channel operated by German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, wants to enter the HD world in around 18 months. "Based on the current timetable we expect to be HD-ready in May 2012," programme director Michael Hirz told German industry magazine "Digitalmagazin".

"The high-definition format is ideally suited for Phoenix, for example with regard to our documentaries," explained Hirz. "Many documentary productions are now available in HD on the market. So it would really be a perfect fit for Phoenix to be HD-capable. This also refers to our event coverage which is also increasingly produced in HD."
