Spacecom sets its sights high

IBC 2010 – AMSTERDAM. Spacecom has outlined its plans to become a global player in the satellite broadcasting market within the next five years.
Speaking to Broadband TV News, Ori Onn, the company’s senior VP marketing and sales, said that Amos-5i , which is located at 17 degrees East, was launched earlier this year on an interim basis. Focused on Africa and also covering southern Europe, it will make its full debut in June 2011.
It will be followed by Amos-4 at 65 degrees East, covering Asia (India, China and parts of Russia) and the Middle East; Amos –5 at 40 degrees West (pan-European); Amos-7, which will join Amos-5 at 17 degrees East in 2014; and Amos-8, over Latin America.
Of the still to be launched satellites, Amos-4 and Amos-5 are already financed.
Israeli-owned Spacecom is part of the Eurocom Group, whose other interests include the telco Bezeq (as majority owners) and the DTH platform Yes.
It has a strong presence in the CEE region, listing Magio (Slovakia), T-Home (Hungary), Boom TV (Romania), Inter and 1+1 (Ukraine) and HBO Central Europe among its clients.
