Sony is reportedly testing a new feature called "Cross-Buy" that would allow games purchased for its proprietary PlayStation platform to also be added to a corresponding PC library. An independent inspection by X user @yAmethxst of PlayStation Network assets revealed that a "crossbuy" tag and "PS5 / PC" store assets were added in June 2025. This is not an ordinary feature addition or a legacy feature, as it is specifically designed for future release. A potential Cross-Buy option for PlayStation consoles would give gamers the option to run the same game on their PCs, which might be equipped with a powerful GPU. Much like Microsoft's approach with Xbox, Sony aims to keep its customers engaged with their PlayStation platforms by avoiding the need for separate game libraries.
However, some technicalities would need to be sorted out first. For example, since there is no unified PC storefront, where would Sony host these titles? Since Sony doesn't operate a PC storefront, it would have to either rely on Steam or Epic, or develop its own PC storefront port. Both options seem realistic, but managing things like entitlement servers, account linking, and cross-platform verification, all while maintaining existing DRM and store policies, is a very difficult task. So we are still in the dark about how the potential implementation of Cross-Buy would play out.https://tpucdn.com/img/lNFN1vtKDtGSQCEj_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/lNFN1vtKDtGSQCEj.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/tMDG35vwqn6otJYR_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/tMDG35vwqn6otJYR.jpg)

As the 2 nm-class nodes are starting to enter volume production, Japanese material suppliers are expanding the capacity of EUV-capable resists and high-purity process chemicals, according to Nikkei. Tokyo Ohka Kogyo (TOK), Adeka, and JSR are building or upgrading fabs for photoresists and metal-oxide resist (MOR) chemistries that improve resolution, line-edge roughness (LER), and etch resistance for extreme ultraviolet patterning. TOK will invest ¥20 billion ($130 million) to add a South Korea photoresist plant (operations targeted for 2030), expanding capacity up to three to four times for packaging and memory customers such as Samsung, TSMC and SK hynix, and a separate ¥12 billion ($78 million) site for high-purity semiconductor chemicals. These chemicals (solvents, developers, surfactants, cleaning agents) are critical for EUV processes where resist sensitivity, contamination control, and outgassing limits directly affect wafer yield and mask lifetime. Adeka's ¥3.2 billion ($20 million) investment will equip its Ibaraki lines for MOR mass production (from ~April 2028), while JSR's MOR facility in South Korea is slated for service by late 2026.
These expansions address bottlenecks unique to EUV lithography technology, such as resist sensitivity vs resolution tradeoffs, defect mitigation and contaminant control. Japan's suppliers already account for the majority of high-end photoresist supply (~91% market share), giving them an edge over competitors that have improved i-line/KrF resist technology but still lag on EUV MOR and process-grade chemical scale-up. MORs contain metal compounds that increase EUV photon absorption and improve pattern transfer: higher absorption reduces dose requirements, and metal-based chemistries can yield better LER and etch durability vs conventional organic resists, a key for sub-2 nm pattern fidelity.https://tpucdn.com/img/UA09pMblQmpcZcKE_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/UA09pMblQmpcZcKE.jpg)

Without much fanfare, Sandisk has launched the rather oddly shaped Extreme Fit USB-C Flash Drive, which is intended as a storage upgrade for your laptop, rather than your typical removable USB drive. The blocky, rather tall, but flat device—it measures 18.50 x 15.70 x 13.60 mm—is meant to be left in your USB-C port, even when you carry your laptop around in your backpack, at least according to the product pictures on Sandisk's site. Sandisk also provides a backup app that will do automatic backups for you.
The Extreme Fit comes in sizes ranging from 64 GB to 1 TB, which makes this without a doubt the smallest physical drive to offer a whole terabyte of storage capacity. What's less impressive is the USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) interface; this feels quite dated for a device with this kind of storage capacity. Sandisk claims read speeds of up to 400 MB/s (from the 128 GB SKU and up) with write speeds being "lower", as well as a five-year warranty. The Extreme Fit is compatible with Windows, macOS and iPadOS according to the company. What's more surprising are the reasonable pricing, which starts at US$15 for the 64 GB drive and tops out at US$110 for the 1 TB version.https://tpucdn.com/img/XcVx23tuUWc7LZPr_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/XcVx23tuUWc7LZPr.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/6pZwT7wQkZQL8XMb_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/6pZwT7wQkZQL8XMb.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/JpaMbyGoxLCHhRNz_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/JpaMbyGoxLCHhRNz.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/f4lNr8xXfFP5CKVR_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/f4lNr8xXfFP5CKVR.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/HOFMvBvLrsqOtUnL_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/HOFMvBvLrsqOtUnL.jpg)

Toward the end of last month, we reported a notable disruption in the memory supply chain. Manufacturers retroactively increased RDIMM prices by 40-50% (https://www.techpowerup.com/342331/server-dram-pricing-jumps-50-only-70-of-orders-getting-filled) just in August, despite hyperscalers signing agreements at much lower prices. This change is now rapidly affecting consumers. According to the latest report from CTEE, DRAM prices have surged 171.8% year-over-year, making this "commodity" one of the most valuable assets for applications ranging from data centers to home builds. If you're building a PC and notice that your desired memory kit's price has skyrocketed, you're not alone. The DRAM shortage has driven these modules to sky-high price levels. This is attributed to the demand for AI consuming the entire memory and storage supply as data center expansion continues.
To make the point even more worrisome, South Korean memory giants like Samsung and SK Hynix are unable to fulfill all orders, with only 70% of them being completed. This is pushing Tier-1 U.S. and Chinese cloud order books to an effective 70% fill rate and eliminating the safety stock that most buyers believed they had secured. Module manufacturers such as Kingston and ADATA are now paying $13 for 16 GB DDR5 chips that cost $7 just six weeks ago, an increase significant enough to erase their entire gross margin. Even more concerning is the fact that smaller OEMs and channel distributors have been told to expect only 35-40% fulfillment through the first quarter of 2026. This not only delays their planned product rollouts but also jeopardizes their expected revenue streams if the situation persists. They face the choice of either gambling on the spot market for a massive markup or leaving their production lines idle.https://tpucdn.com/img/gVbBsBb6QDIE9Isz_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/gVbBsBb6QDIE9Isz.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/Qs3E18GUYpBx1RQN_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/Qs3E18GUYpBx1RQN.jpg)

Arm (NASDAQ: ARM) published a letter to its shareholders containing results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2026 ended September 30, 2025. The infographic below offers the key highlights.
Here are what the results mean and how they were achieved:Surpassing $1 billion for the third consecutive quarter, as Arm reported second-quarter revenue of $1.14 billion, up 34% year-over-year. Revenue was above the high end of guidance, and non-GAAP EPS finished above the high end.
Royalty revenue rose 21% year-over-year to $620 million, driven by the continued adoption of Arm technology with higher royalty rates per chip, such as Armv9 and Arm Compute Subsystems (CSS), and increased usage of Arm-based chips in data centers.
Three new Arm CSS licenses signed in the quarter, one each in smartphones, tablet, and data centers, bringing the total to 19 licenses with 11 companies, with five customers already shipping CSS-based chips. Samsung will also leverage CSS for its Exynos family of chipsets, which means the top four Android phone vendors are now shipping CSS-powered devices.
In Q2, Arm launched the Lumex CSS platform, our most advanced smartphone platform to date, delivering up to 5x faster AI performance on a new generation of Arm C1 CPUs with Arm Scalable Matrix Extension 2 (SME2) and up to 3x the energy savings, alongside up to 2x AI and graphics performance through the integration with the new Arm Mali G1-Ultra GPU compared to the prior generations. The ecosystem is already embracing Lumex, with leading applications, such as Alipay, Gmail, and YouTube, accelerating on-device inference and real-time personalization, and partners, such as MediaTek, designing Lumex configurations into its next-generation chips for new flagship smartphones from Oppo and vivo.

Although we're almost two months away from CES, companies are already starting to tease products that they will have on display at the show. Samsung has unveiled a pair of new SSDs, of which one might find an appeal with owners of portable gaming devices. The other, is not going to be something most consumers will ever have any direct contact with, but the Detachable AutoSSD is an interesting product from Samsung that might spill over in other markets in the future. It's intended for the automotive market and uses the E1.A form factor, but what makes it truly unique is the fact that the SSD controller and the NAND are separated from each other, something Samsung claims improves heat dissipation, but also that it can extend the product life and make upgrades and/or replacements easier.
A more useful addition to its lineup of SSDs is the PM9E1 M.2 22x42, which is an OEM drive in the M.2 2242 form factor. This is as far as we're aware, the first announcement of an M.2 2242 PCIe 5.0 drive, but it's also one of what has to be less than a handful of drives in this form factor that has DRAM onboard. Samsung claims read speeds of up to 14.8 GB/s and write speeds of up to 13.4 GB/s, courtesy of its Presto SSD controller and its V8 TLC V-NAND. The PM9E1 will come in sizes up to 4 TB, which means it's a double sided drive with components on both sides of the PCB, which could make it a tad tricky when it comes to the cooling. However, for those with a handheld gaming device like the Steam Deck, could prove to be one of the best performance options out there, while at the same time offering plenty of storage space for your game library.https://tpucdn.com/img/ii2Ub9uudPykkG2P_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/ii2Ub9uudPykkG2P.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/OS8vVWZP0SAghq30_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/OS8vVWZP0SAghq30.jpg)

A new leaked PassMark benchmark has revealed what appears to be AMD's next 3D V-Cache processor, the Ryzen 7 9700X3D, a new CPU to refresh the company's mid-range gaming lineup. The listing shows it is an eight-core, 16-thread Zen 5 CPU with 96 MB of L3 cache and a boost clock of up to 5.8 GHz, however, that figure is likely from early testing or overclocked conditions. The 9700X3D scored 4,687 points in single-threaded and 40,438 points in multithreaded benchmarks. That's about 1-5% ahead of the existing Ryzen 7 9800X3D. With the Ryzen 7 9700X3D, AMD might follow the same path as the 5700X3D (https://www.techpowerup.com/339805/amd-ryzen-7-5700x3d-disappears-from-the-market), offering slightly lower clocks and price while maintaining strong gaming performance.
It's also rumored, as we reported earlier, that AMD is developing a higher-end Ryzen 7 9850X3D (120 W, 8 cores, 16 threads, 96 MB L3 cache, 5.6 GHz/4.7 GHz), a Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 (https://www.techpowerup.com/342095/amd-could-launch-16-core-ryzen-9-9950x3d2-cpu-with-192-mb-l3-cache-and-200-w-tdp) (200 W, 16 cores, 32 threads, 192 MB L3 cache, 5.6 GHz/4.3 GHz), and an entry-level Ryzen 5 7500X3D (https://www.techpowerup.com/342289/amd-prepares-entry-level-ryzen-5-7500x3d-6-core-cpu-for-ces-2026-launch) (65 W, 6 cores, 12 threads, 96 MB L3 cache). With CES 2026 just two months away, we can expect AMD to release some of these now-rumored CPUs there, if not all four of them.
Update Nov 8th: This PassMark benchmark has been identified as a faked result. Redditors (https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1orc6jl/my_friends_and_i_accidentally_faked_the_ryzen_7/) used Linux commands to submit spoofed identification data, using a standard 9700X, apparently to see if it was possible. The higher clocks than the 9800X3D would be unusual for a lower binned X3D part. Many news sites reported on the story, and the shenanigans serve as a warning regarding trusting the veracity of unverified benchmarks.https://tpucdn.com/img/KeZmYw0PKaUo0mzx_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/KeZmYw0PKaUo0mzx.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/N1ZTdsHnboWdKb48_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/N1ZTdsHnboWdKb48.jpg)

Intel is losing another senior figure from its data center and AI business, with Saurabh Kulkarni, Vice President of Data Center AI Product Management, set to depart for AMD. Kulkarni's last day at Intel is reportedly Friday, with Anil Nanduri, VP of AI Go-To-Market, stepping in to lead the AI product management organization. Kulkarni joined Intel a little over two years ago and most recently oversaw product management across AI systems, GPUs, and silicon design within the company's data center group. He previously defined Intel's AI systems strategy under Chief Technology and AI Officer Sachin Katti, including work on silicon photonics interconnects to improve GPU scalability for large-scale data center deployments. Before returning to Intel, Kulkarni held senior leadership roles at Graphcore and Lucata, and earlier in his career spent six years at Microsoft (https://www.techpowerup.com/342680/microsofts-ai-goal-is-humanist-intelligence-in-service-of-people-and-humanity), leading engineering efforts for Azure's cloud and AI infrastructure. In February, Intel also lost Justin Hotard (https://www.techpowerup.com/332379/intels-head-of-data-center-and-ai-division-exits-to-lead-nokia), who previously led its Data Center and AI (DCAI) division, after he announced his departure to become Nokia's new CEO.
Kulkarni's move comes as AMD ramps up its own data center AI push (https://www.techpowerup.com/341879/oracle-to-deploy-50-000-amd-instinct-mi450-gpus-in-new-ai-superclusters), driven by the Instinct GPU lineup and major design wins, including OpenAI (https://www.techpowerup.com/341628/openai-will-buy-amd-gpus-amd-offers-usd-30-billion-in-stock-to-sweeten-the-deal). AMD projects its AI accelerator business could reach tens of billions in annual revenue (https://www.techpowerup.com/342625/amd-reports-record-q3-2025-revenue-of-usd-9-2-billion) by 2027, a target CEO Lisa Su reiterated earlier this week. Intel, meanwhile, continues to realign its AI and data center divisions under new CEO Lip-Bu Tan, following weaker-than-expected Gaudi accelerator revenue and a broader restructuring effort affecting roughly 15% of its core workforce. Several longtime Intel engineers, including Ronak Singhal and Rob Bruckner, have also departed this year as the company recruits new external talent to rebuild its AI leadership.https://tpucdn.com/img/BmryKVu9rtRpatz0_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/BmryKVu9rtRpatz0.jpg)

Amazon US sales data for October, courtesy of @TechEpiphanyYT, reveal a huge disparity between AMD and Intel CPU sales. The combined shipments of AMD's Ryzen 9800X3D and 7800X3D reached roughly 16,000 units, while Intel's entire CPU lineup on the platform did not surpass 10,000 units. This gives AMD about 83.80% of the market share in terms of units sold, meaning that for every ten CPUs sold, more than eight were AMD models. The two X3D models sold roughly 8,000 units each, indicating a strong demand for AMD's high-end gaming processors, even at premium prices. In the value segment, the six-core Ryzen 5 5500 sold nearly 5,000 units, securing the third spot and outperforming common Intel alternatives like the Core i3 models, which typically offer four cores.
Intel saw a limited success with the Core Ultra 7 265K, which sold nearly 1,000 units after its price dropped below $300. However, this single product couldn't offset the production challenges Intel faced with its 12th, 13th, and 14th generation lines, where increasing prices (https://www.techpowerup.com/341338/intel-to-hike-13th-generation-raptor-lake-cpu-pricing-by-10) have reduced competitiveness in price-sensitive retail markets. Interestingly, the average selling price of AMD CPUs was $272.05, while Intel's was higher at $308.62. This indicates that AMD is focusing more on the low and mid-range segments, whereas Intel's customers are primarily targeting higher-end builds.https://tpucdn.com/img/dx93M3TMBDcf9lNc_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/dx93M3TMBDcf9lNc.jpg)

Samsung has developed its next-generation low-power LPDDR6 memory for mobile applications. Built on a 12 nm process, this LPDDR6 memory module achieves data rates of 10.7 Gbps. Engineers have increased the input/output channel count and introduced dynamic power tuning, which adjusts power consumption in real time based on workload demands. Samsung has also incorporated robust security features directly into the memory subsystem to ensure data integrity across all applications. Interestingly, Samsung's improved and tuned LPDDR5X also reaches 10.7 Gbps, which is the starting point for the new LPDDR6 memory.
As seen in the transition from DDR4 to DDR5, the final configurations of the previous generation memory are often close in performance to the first generation of the new standard. For LPDDR6, Samsung claims a 21% improvement in energy efficiency over its predecessor, LPDDR5X. This means devices can achieve the same bandwidth and speed while using one-fifth less power. Future LPDDR6 iterations are expected to reach speeds of up to 14 Gbps, surpassing even the fastest overclocked LPDDR5X chips. More details are anticipated at this year's CES, where Samsung will showcase devices powered by the new memory and reveal specific features.https://tpucdn.com/img/3Bennkt2V4NzMIEX_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/3Bennkt2V4NzMIEX.jpg)

The ASUS GeForce RTX 5090 ROG MATRIX is approaching its retail launch, and ASUS has already detailed a new software feature called "Level Sense" designed to prevent sagging in this massive and premium-priced graphics card. Embedded within the GPU (https://www.techpowerup.com/336030/no-more-gpu-sag-asus-rog-astral-geforce-rtx-5090-now-alerts-you-to-sagging) is a miniature Bosch Sensortec BMI323 inertial measurement unit (IMU), which combines an accelerometer and gyroscope in a single component for a negligible cost. ASUS integrates this sensor into the PCB to continuously monitor whether the graphics card remains level with the motherboard, triggering an immediate alert if the card shifts even slightly downward. This feature proves particularly valuable for models like the air-cooled ROG ASTRAL RTX 5090, which weighs approximately 3 kg and can place considerable strain on your motherboard's PCIe slot over extended periods.
These capabilities are integrated into ASUS GPU Tweak software, which enables real-time sag detection and provides additional tuning options for the graphics card. This functionality becomes especially significant for users who relocate their desktops infrequently and may not observe gradual changes in component positioning. As graphics cards continue to increase in size and mechanical demands, it is easy to overlook their status as a physical burden on your system, a consideration that becomes particularly relevant when moving your PC for maintenance or component upgrades.https://tpucdn.com/img/PpQhKRmdo3IzYa5q_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/PpQhKRmdo3IzYa5q.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/lRURSFrXz5hLHOgK_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/lRURSFrXz5hLHOgK.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/RX2WLORFyKV43mlN_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/RX2WLORFyKV43mlN.jpg)

NVIDIA's rumored GeForce RTX 50 series "Blackwell" SUPER graphics cards might face delays due to the ongoing DRAM shortage affecting the industry (https://www.techpowerup.com/342660/dram-prices-surge-172-yoy-with-no-signs-of-slowing-down). These GPUs are expected to feature more dense GDDR7 memory modules with 3 GB per module. The current DRAM shortage could impact the planned release date and potentially lead to the cancellation of the entire rollout. According to Uniko's Hardware, there is speculation that the SUPER refresh cycle might be scrapped entirely, leaving only the standard NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series in production. This regular series uses earlier GDDR7 memory with 2 GB per module, which is likely more readily available as the new AI developments are consuming the higher-density modules first.
According to BenchLife.info, NVIDIA was reportedly planning a mid-lifecycle refresh for late Q1 to early Q2 2026, with a possible announcement at CES 2026 (https://www.techpowerup.com/340852/nvidia-geforce-rtx-50-series-super-gpus-could-arrive-at-ces-2026). Earlier speculation suggested three new SKUs that would replace existing models: the RTX 5070 SUPER, RTX 5070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 5080 SUPER. The main improvement seemed to be in memory capacity, with all three cards expected to have 50% more memory than their non-SUPER counterparts. The RTX 5070 SUPER was said to offer 18 GB, while the RTX 5070 Ti SUPER and RTX 5080 SUPER would each provide 24 GB. However, the latest rumor leaves us with no clues about whether these GPUs will actually appear. The only thing we can anticipate is CES, where NVIDIA might reveal more information.https://tpucdn.com/img/5e4oSX9F4ZyKNmsY_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/5e4oSX9F4ZyKNmsY.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/s2H4QW7iMvYr3qgx_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/s2H4QW7iMvYr3qgx.jpg)

TrendForce's latest research indicates that the global client SSD market experienced a price low in 2023, followed by gradual stabilization of supply and demand and a price rebound in 2024. However, retail SSD sales face challenges due to ongoing weak consumer electronics demand and notebook SSD attach rates reaching 100%. This has led to reduced shipments from SSD module makers. Channel SSD shipments for 2024 are projected at 101 million units, reflecting a 14% YoY decrease.
TrendForce has released its 2024 rankings for SSD module makers based on shipment data of their own-brand SSDs in the channel market. The top five companies now control over 80% of the market, signaling ongoing consolidation. Kingston remains the leading brand with a 36% market share, supported by its extensive channel presence and product reliability. ADATA ranks second with 13%, driven by aggressive marketing of gaming and premium consumer products, along with the quick deployment of PCIe 4.0 and 5.0 SSDs.https://tpucdn.com/img/oXqAHpaU6LV1KBWh_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/oXqAHpaU6LV1KBWh.jpg)

It looks as though Sony is planning a new MMO set in the Horizon universe, according to a video recently revealed by The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/news/819657/horizon-steel-frontiers-mmo-sony-ncsoft-playstation). The video in question is 10 minutes long, showing off a mix of gameplay and cinematic footage interspersed between developer interviews. The game, which will apparently be called Horizon Steel Frontiers, looks to be launching for PC, iOS, and Android and is being developed by Sony and NCSoft. Curiously, there is no mention of a PS5 launch in the marketing materials cited by The Verge, and the material also makes no mention of a release date or price.
The pre-alpha gameplay footage shows players working together to face off against and tame the giant mechanical beasts from the Horizon universe, as well as harvesting resources from the defeated enemies. The video gives us a glimpse at a variety of environments and biomes that will be part of Steel Frontiers, including dilapidated, overgrown buildings, underground caves and labyrinths, an apparent desert area, beaches, lush forests, and at least one hub area. The environment is, however, inspired by Arizona and New Mexico, so it might be fair to expect a little more desert shrubbery than forest canopy. In terms of gameplay, combat will feature a mix of powerful melee encounters, ranged attacks, and a decent amount of mobility and traversal. There also seems to be an emphasis on tactics, with traps and more nuanced approaches seemingly required for some of the more powerful monsters.https://tpucdn.com/img/khOXHFuRkLZLNUun_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/khOXHFuRkLZLNUun.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/h02645gsnPLD0o3w_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/h02645gsnPLD0o3w.jpg)

Almost immediately after Valve launched the Steam Deck, fans were already starting to ponder what the next version of the gaming handheld would look like. Now, following the launch of the Valve Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and the new Steam Controller (https://www.techpowerup.com/342866/valve-announces-steam-machine-steam-frame-and-steam-controller), Valve has confirmed that there will still be a considerable wait for the next-gen gaming handheld. In an interview with IGN (https://www.ign.com/articles/valve-says-it-has-a-pretty-good-idea-of-what-steam-deck-2-is-going-to-be-explains-why-its-holding-off-for-now), Valve engineer, Pierre-Loup Griffais, commented that the company has "a pretty good idea of what the next version of Steam Deck is going to be," but that current-gen hardware doesn't yet meet Valve's expectations when it comes to battery life or efficiency. This is in keeping with Valve's previous statements regarding a Steam Deck 2—in 2023, Valve designer Lawrence Yang and Griffais himself said that the Steam Deck 2 would not launch for "a few years," again citing a lack of meaningful CPU and GPU performance improvements.
As it turns out, the hang-up for the Steam Deck 2 is battery life, not so much performance, with Griffais saying "We're not interested in getting to a point where it's 20 or 30 or even 50% more performance at the same battery life. We want something a little bit more demarcated than that." As we've seen with recent devices like the OneXPlayer OneXFly Apex (https://www.techpowerup.com/341387/onexplayer-teases-onexfly-apex-8-inch-gaming-handheld-with-amd-ryzen-ai-max-395), it is possible to achieve desktop RTX 4060-tier performance in a handheld form factor, but even optimistic manufacturer-supplied battery life estimates on those devices are not particularly impressive. On the other hand, Valve's current-gen Steam Deck boasts impressive efficiency. Even if it doesn't deliver high-resolution AAA gaming performance, the Steam Deck manages to deliver halfway decent gaming performance, even at just 15 W TDP.https://tpucdn.com/img/NtzELj4GQiGXasVg_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/NtzELj4GQiGXasVg.jpg)

Valve has finally put an end to the months-long rumor cycle about its next-generation hardware. Today, Valve has introduced three new additions (https://store.steampowered.com/news/group/45479024/view/578276333072679812) to its hardware library with Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller. Starting with the more interesting hardware, we finally have a successor to the original Steam Machine more than a decade after the original was introduced. Also called the Steam Machine, this one brings more modern hardware optimized to co-exist with the SteamOS Linux build, and a powerful software stack to run any game. Available in 512 GB and 2 TB SSD models with microSD expansion, it pairs a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 processor with RDNA 3 graphics to achieve supposed 4K gaming at 60 FPS with ray tracing and FSR support. Being semi-custom GPU, it might be closer to AMD's RDNA 3.5, than the pure RDNA 3.
Bundled with a Steam Controller, the system features an integrated 2.4 GHz radio alongside Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth for wide peripheral compatibility. Video output options include DisplayPort 1.4 for up to 4K at 240 Hz and HDMI 2.0, complemented by Ethernet, USB-C 10 Gbps, and four USB-A ports. Running SteamOS with rapid suspend/resume and wake-on-controller functionality, it combines 16 GB DDR5 system memory with 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM, an internal power supply, and a customizable LED bar that reflects system status for a complete living room experience. Valve has packaged it as a small black box, which will blend in with any HTPC environment.https://tpucdn.com/img/65vDTy565EnCydim_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/65vDTy565EnCydim.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/R64gHxaFNo99WZHD_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/R64gHxaFNo99WZHD.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/al8cHSOqpCmGtZvM_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/al8cHSOqpCmGtZvM.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/BTjIOMGQiORP9eln_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/BTjIOMGQiORP9eln.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/PNYGah93kdMuAgLg_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/PNYGah93kdMuAgLg.jpg)

ASUS has cautioned that it might need to raise prices for its PC solutions across the board if component shortages, such as DRAM (https://www.techpowerup.com/342660/dram-prices-surge-172-yoy-with-no-signs-of-slowing-down) and NAND flash (https://www.techpowerup.com/342787/nand-flash-prices-doubled-in-six-months-warns-phison-ceo), continue for a while longer. Speaking for Taiwan's Liberty Times, ASUS co-CEO has made remarks that: "For distribution channel pricing, ASUS will take into account costs, distribution partners and consumer demand, and then adjust the product mix and adjust product prices accordingly." This means that the increase in industry costs will be reflected in the final pricing that ASUS offers its customers. For example, if the price of DRAM increases, a PC with 16, 32, or 64 GB of DDR5 memory will likely see a price increase of a few hundred US dollars.
We recently reported that DRAM prices have surged 171.8% year-over-year, making this "commodity" one of the most valuable assets for applications ranging from data centers to home builds. Even more concerning is the fact that vendors can expect only 70% order fill rate, and smaller OEMs and channel distributors have been told to expect only 35-40% fulfillment through the first quarter of 2026. In addition to DRAM, NAND flash storage has also doubled in the past six months. Phison CEO Khein-Seng Pua recently noted that the price of a 1 Terabit TLC NAND jumped from $4.80 in July 2025 to $10.70 in November 2025, marking an increase of over 100% in less than six months. Other types of NAND flash, such as MLC and QLC, have also seen spot prices double.https://tpucdn.com/img/sUlnWT4avRQXECXJ_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/sUlnWT4avRQXECXJ.jpg)

In the age of AI reasoning, training smarter, more capable models is critical to scaling intelligence. Delivering the massive performance to meet this new age requires breakthroughs across GPUs, CPUs, NICs, scale-up and scale-out networking, system architectures, and mountains of software and algorithms. In MLPerf Training v5.1—the latest round in a long-running series of industry-standard tests of AI training performance—NVIDIA swept all seven tests, delivering the fastest time to train across large language models (LLMs), image generation, recommender systems, computer vision and graph neural networks.
NVIDIA was also the only platform to submit results on every test, underscoring the rich programmability of NVIDIA GPUs, and the maturity and versatility of its CUDA software stack.https://tpucdn.com/img/sc3xfuSKGtaDmUDF_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/sc3xfuSKGtaDmUDF.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/6ZwGiOM24lSCkF2k_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/6ZwGiOM24lSCkF2k.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/VamaCJg9JcjMmj3Q_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/VamaCJg9JcjMmj3Q.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/PAVIr9Org4NQd30Z_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/PAVIr9Org4NQd30Z.jpg)

GPU prices are finally coming down. After we saw AMD's Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics cards have finally dip below their MSRPs (https://www.techpowerup.com/342533/amd-radeon-rx-9070-and-rx-9070-xt-finally-reach-msrp), it seems that NVIDIA cards are now in order. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti slipped below its MSRP this week after Newegg applied a rebate that brought widely available listings to $729.99, under the $749 MSRP tied to this "Blackwell" SKU. The new pricing may not instantly alter the narrative around the 5070 Ti, but rather give this GPU some price breathing room for card that carried persistent price premiums, turning some buyers away.
The SKU in question is MSI Ventus 3X OC BLACK edition, which apparently has not been listed on MSI's official site, meaning that retailers are now the exclusive place to get this GPU. We had a pleasure of reviewing the non-BLACK MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC GPU (https://www.techpowerup.com/review/msi-geforce-rtx-5070-ti-ventus-3x/), which stood out as a sensible and well-rounded offering. Its factory overclock, strong headroom for further tuning and efficient gaming power draw make it especially attractive to 1440p high refresh gamers, compact-system builders and overclocking enthusiasts. Taking performance, features and price into account we awarded the Ventus 3X OC a "Recommended" badge. It is a very good value for its audience, but it missed our Editor's Choice due to the thermal and noise trade-offs. However, at the time the actual retail price was a bit higher than MSRP at launch. Now, PC builders can get this GPU at prices below MSRP from the Newegg listing here (https://www.newegg.com/msi-rtx-5070-ti-16g-ventus-3x-oc-geforce-rtx-5070-ti-16gb-graphics-card-triple-fans/p/N82E16814137993).https://tpucdn.com/img/wbyG9RvRzZcxC1pS_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/wbyG9RvRzZcxC1pS.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/CVIVYOiW7auTmjik_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/CVIVYOiW7auTmjik.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/GVqjBMo3JUolHJ9t_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/GVqjBMo3JUolHJ9t.jpg)

The LTO Program Technology Provider Companies (TPCs), Hewlett Packard Enterprise, International Business Machines Corporation and Quantum Corporation, today announced specifications for a new generation of LTO Ultrium data cartridges with 40 TB native capacity (up to 100 TB compressed, assuming 2.5:1 compression), extending the industry's most widely adopted open tape format for long-term, cyber-resilient, and energy-efficient data preservation. At the same time, the TPCs are optimizing the technology roadmap for future LTO products to better align with customer priorities regarding reliability, affordability and efficiency for managing colossal amounts of data.
As organizations generate and retain unprecedented volumes of data to power AI, analytics, data insight, and compliance, the 40 TB LTO-10 cartridge offers enterprises and other large-capacity users superior storage density to efficiently archive greater amounts of information. This leap in capacity is made possible by innovations in the LTO-10 drive head design and a new, highly stable base film material, which together unlock the increased native media capacity of 40 TB. This new 40 TB cartridge is compatible with the same LTO-10 drive organizations are using for the 30 TB cartridge.https://tpucdn.com/img/QteMl8qdSrPnB89k_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/QteMl8qdSrPnB89k.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/sC58WZUDd8m7VSRN_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/sC58WZUDd8m7VSRN.jpg)

Western Digital has quietly introduced a new ultra-dense storage rack called the Ultrastar Data102. This 4U rack shelf holds 102 3.5-inch drives, offering just over three petabytes of raw storage when equipped with today's 30 TB hard disks. Upgrading to 32 TB drives increases the raw capacity to about 3.26 PB, providing a modest but valuable boost for customers aiming to maximize terabytes per rack unit. The chassis is designed for dense, continuous operation, featuring redundant, hot-swappable power supplies, front-serviceable cooling, and SAS host connectivity suitable for large storage fabrics.
Western Digital's product documentation indicates 102 drive bays without separate SSD mounting points. However, there is room for up to 3.84 TB of SSD capacity for a hybrid storage design. A fully populated enclosure is both heavy and power-intensive, accommodating up to two 80 Plus Platinum 1800 W power supplies. Cloud providers, archival services, and AI training clusters that prioritize raw capacity and cost per TB will find the Ultrastar Data102 appealing. However, organizations needing integrated flash tiers might opt for enclosures that explicitly include SSD bays. As with other enterprise-grade systems, the final price is typically negotiated through OEM and integrator channels rather than listed as a retail figure.https://tpucdn.com/img/1SsavIWWiuRwwH4p_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/1SsavIWWiuRwwH4p.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/sijfyccyb7ncvuqj_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/sijfyccyb7ncvuqj.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/JuzouOozTqHEbjw3_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/JuzouOozTqHEbjw3.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/491FHbZOABGSEadK_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/491FHbZOABGSEadK.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/INYzlZAkRz8mPU7w_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/INYzlZAkRz8mPU7w.jpg)
