NVIDIA's surprise $5 billion investment in Intel (https://www.techpowerup.com/341127/nvidia-buys-usd-5b-worth-of-intel-rtx-igpus-coming-to-x86-shares-up-25) today came with an unexpected revelation - the two companies have been quietly working together for almost a year on fusing x86 CPUs with RTX and data center GPUs through NVLink. The result? Actual system-on-chip designs that could finally break the PCIe bottleneck that's been holding back AI servers. NVIDIA will handle the heavy lifting on design and manufacturing of these hybrid chips, integrating NVIDIA's NVLink directly into Intel's x86 silicon. It's basically the same approach NVIDIA already uses with their Vera processors (Arm + Blackwell GPUs), except now they're doing it with Intel's x86 cores instead of custom Arm designs. Anyone who's worked with current GPU servers knows the pain points. PCIe connections between CPUs and GPUs create bandwidth choke points, add latency, and make memory management a nightmare for AI workloads. These new chips bypass all that with direct GPU-CPU communication and shared memory pools.
The target market isn't just data centers either. Intel mentioned both server and client applications, which suggests we might see this tech trickle down to gaming laptops and workstations eventually. For now though, the focus is clearly on machine learning clusters and HPC installations where PCIe bandwidth is already maxed out. AMD won't be thrilled about this development. They've been pushing their own CPU-GPU integration story, but this Intel-NVIDIA combo could leapfrog their efforts entirely. The manufacturing question remains murky though. When pressed about using Intel's fabs for production, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan gave a diplomatic non-answer about "perfecting the process" first. Reading between the lines, TSMC will probably keep making the actual chips for both companies, at least initially. Jensen said that basically for the start, NVIDIA will buy a CPU chip then sell a unified CPU plus GPU chiplet.https://tpucdn.com/img/5MVpB8bKJ2IZZNtd_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/5MVpB8bKJ2IZZNtd.jpg)

NuPhy's Hall effect gaming keyboards, like the Air60 HE we previouisly reviewed (https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nuphy-air60-he-low-profile-magnetic-keyboard/), Halo65 HE, and BH65, are pitched as alternatives to the likes of the Wooting 60HE, but one major concern for a lot of prospective buyers is the lack of support for analog input and controller emulation. A recent post on r/NuPhy on Reddit, however, revealed that NuPhy is currently testing analog input for its entire range of HE gaming keyboards, which would conceivably make them some of the most affordable Hall effect boards with the feature—when it eventually lands. It's still unclear when exactly the feature will launch to NuPhy's keyboards, but NuPhy recently launched a beta version of its NuPhyIO 2.0 web driver to test new features, so it stands to reason that it will be launched in an upcoming update to NuPhyIO.
The idea behind controller emulation is that you can map controller triggers and joystick inputs to specific keyboard switches so that the HE sensors and switches emulate the analog input of a controller instead of the binary input of traditional mechanical switches. The lack of controller emulation isn't a problem unique to NuPhy keyboards, with only a handful of Hall effect keyboards from brands like Wooting and Keychron currently supporting the feature.https://tpucdn.com/img/C9IlfwuGsJpkWpnd_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/C9IlfwuGsJpkWpnd.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/7MVimCQvFQWqmj54_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/7MVimCQvFQWqmj54.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/gGJcWTggtNMk10eZ_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/gGJcWTggtNMk10eZ.jpg)

Lenovo recently opened pre-orders for the Legion Go 2 (https://www.techpowerup.com/340698/lenovo-announces-new-legion-gaming-devices-ai-tablets-and-ai-powered-software), the company's latest Windows gaming handheld, but it looks like the manufacturer underestimated the hype around the Legion Go 2. A number of reports on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/LegionGo/search/?q=delay&type=posts&sort=new) indicate that, despite confirming pre-orders, Lenovo has cancelled or delayed pre-orders for the Legion Go in numerous regions. Initially, pre-order confirmations indicated shipping dates in early October, but as the end of September approaches, more and more users have reported that their shipping dates are now closer to mid-November—delays range between five and ten weeks, just based on comments online. It seems as though the majority of the delayed pre-orders have been in the EU, and Lenovo has since had to admit that it will be cancelling some pre-orders in order to meet demand (https://www.reddit.com/r/LegionGo/comments/1nl6yyr/cancellation_of_preorders/), indicating that it anticipates the stock shortage to last for more than just the immediate future.
Lenovo has admitted to the stock shortage, and it has closed pre-orders on the official Lenovo store and in stores across the US and EU until stock is available. In general, the stock shortage, and what many perceive as a poorly managed launch, has generated frustration in the handheld gaming community, with many prospective buyers going so far as to cancel their Legion Go 2 orders in favor of something like an MSI Claw A8 with the same AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor. Others have opted to wait out the stock shortage, hoping that the five-week delay is the worst of it.https://tpucdn.com/img/B5m3sq3VgyPbcWVr_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/B5m3sq3VgyPbcWVr.jpg)

Windows OS is bringing back live wallpapers, reminiscent of the Windows Vista era. Originally known as DreamScene (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_DreamScene), this feature enabled video files, such as MP4 or MKV, to be used as live wallpapers on Windows desktop PCs. Microsoft is currently testing this feature again, as noted by phantomofearth on X. In the latest Windows 11 Dev/Beta build 26x20.6690, there is a hidden option that lets you use video files as live wallpapers. Microsoft is also testing support for external files, which means we might see the company include a selection of customized live wallpapers in the next Windows 11 update.
To enable this feature, you need to be a part of the Windows Insider program. Once you become a part of this feature-preview program, you need to enable feature ID 57645315 and restart your explorer.exe, so Windows can apply it. However, the timeline for this feature is uncertain, and it might be part of next year's major updates. As of now, no significant features have been added this year. Microsoft isn't aiming for more under-the-hood changes for the 25H2 update, nor a visual makeover that prior updates were usually known for. Instead, the updates are primarily focused on security and are delivered as an enablement package (https://www.techpowerup.com/340505/windows-11-25h2-preview-arrives-as-lightweight-enablement-package). For changes like this, we assume Microsoft needs more bug testing before rolling out the feature to stable channels.https://tpucdn.com/img/9hV3LKLXEod5DTET_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/9hV3LKLXEod5DTET.jpg)

Intel has reportedly split its driver branches for its older processors, with the 11th-14th Gen Core processors now on a separate iGPU driver branch compared to the newer CPU models. According to the latest driver release dated September 19th, Intel supplies Intel Graphics Driver 32.0.101.7076 for 11th-14th Gen Intel Core processor graphics, separating the support for integrated graphics into "Arc"-based and non-Arc-based models. The 11th Gen Intel "Rocket Lake" Core processors feature UHD Graphics 750, while the 12th Gen "Alder Lake", 13th Gen "Raptor Lake", and 14th Gen "Raptor Lake Refresh" Core processors feature UHD Graphics 770 GPU, all based on Intel's older "Iris" architecture. Hence, Intel decided to separate these older "Iris" variations from its newest "Arc" driver support branch, possibly assigning different support teams to the iGPU driver support.
The current cross-architecture package, v32.0.101.7029, continues to support Intel "Arc" as well as "Iris Xe" integrated designs while listing compatibility with 11th-Gen CPUs and newer. Separately, Intel published a slightly newer iGPU-focused release, v32.0.101.7076, that targets the non-Arc integrated graphics used on 11th-14th-Gen Core processors (the Iris/UHD variants). The existence of a dedicated v7076 branch implies Intel consolidated a set of iGPU-specific tweaks—performance and power/frequency profiles, accumulated bug fixes and platform adjustments—into a parallel maintenance stream before rolling broader Arc/Iris Xe updates through the v7029 line.https://tpucdn.com/img/BxZoBCYPQOCIX1ER_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/BxZoBCYPQOCIX1ER.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/GRYB3qnYcRcSv4xb_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/GRYB3qnYcRcSv4xb.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/SnNnwWsgxIWtny6S_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/SnNnwWsgxIWtny6S.jpg)

After AMD recently leaked its own FSR 4 libraries on its GPUOpen GitHub repo (https://www.techpowerup.com/340179/amd-fsr-leak-accidentally-tips-potential-support-for-older-gpus), replete with libraries that support older hardware, it was only a matter of time before enterprising modders started demonstrating how those libraries could be used to port FSR to older RDNA GPUs. An enterprising Reddit user (https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1nmyhpo/fsr_4_on_rdna_2_guide/) and modder recently posted a how-to guide explaining how to get FSR 4 implemented in games on RDNA 2 GPUs, and the results reveal improved image quality at the cost of performance. There are other caveats, as well, like having to use a very outdated driver or dive deep into configuration files to rename DLL files to get the upscaler working.
According to both the results posted in the Reddit thread and testing done by Computerbase (https://www.computerbase.de/artikel/grafikkarten/anleitung-fsr-4-auf-radeon-rx-7000-rdna-3.94373/), FSR 4 seems to offer a balance between native image quality and FSR 3.1 performance on both RDNA 3 and RDNA 2 hardware. Computerbase tested Cyberpunk 2077 in 4K on the Ultra settings preset using the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, and FSR 4 delivered 11% faster performance than native, but fell short of FSR 3.1 frame rates by 16%. The Reddit user who posted the how-to guide tested an AMD RX6950 XT (https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-6950-xt-reference-design/) across a range of FSR 4 quality presets, and found that even when set to "Quality," the RDNA 2 GPU gained around 10% performance compared to native rendering in The Last of Us Part 2 at 1440p. Both sources comment that the image quality is a noticeable improvement over FSR 3, and it was more stable than XeSS, which, to its credit, beat out FSR 4 on RDNA 2 in The Last of Us Part 2 by up to 10%, depending on the quality preset. Curiously, similar performance deltas were observed when comparing the unofficial INT8 FSR 4 libraries on RDNA 4 to the officially supported FP8 libraries, and the performance difference between FSR 3.1 and FSR 4 is almost identical, as well.https://tpucdn.com/img/OdRP5XQU1ScDUcGx_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/OdRP5XQU1ScDUcGx.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/1fNyjDjX27M3aMaz_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/1fNyjDjX27M3aMaz.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/is5sMiLBZsdnhacK_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/is5sMiLBZsdnhacK.jpg)

ASUS today announced the Turbo Radeon AI Pro R9700 32 GB graphics card, designed for AI developers and other professionals who seek efficient cooling, compact design, and reliability for their high-performance workstations. It empowers users to run large memory-intensive AI models locally, and its two-slot profile—cooled by a blower-style system—makes it ideal for multi-GPU setups and space-constrained cases.
Advanced cooling system
The blower-style fan generates high static pressure and is paired with a diecast metal shroud and backplate to help ensure efficient heat dissipation. This design expels most heat directly out of the case, which helps to keep system temperatures stable so consistently high performance can be maintained even under the most demanding AI workloads. The diecast backplate also features unique wave patterns and folds that can reduce memory temperature by up to 16%—a significant improvement over traditional designs. Meanwhile, the phase-change GPU thermal pad liquifies to fill in any gaps between the die and the heatsink, providing excellent heat transfer and more durable material than regular thermal paste.https://tpucdn.com/img/sN6HQZpc4kuyP9Mk_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/sN6HQZpc4kuyP9Mk.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/33eJMGJ55oR3BSUP_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/33eJMGJ55oR3BSUP.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/p2pya2wI7GLy1Q2t_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/p2pya2wI7GLy1Q2t.jpg)

According to Korean media outlet News Daily, Samsung Electronics has confirmed that it has raised contract prices for DRAM by as much as 15-30% and mobile NAND flash by roughly 5-10%, in response to a noticeably tighter supply/demand balance. Samsung reportedly notified major customers ahead of fourth-quarter contracting, following a market shift, where older-generation parts are being phased down while demand from hyperscale cloud operators and device makers racing to ship AI-enabled PCs and flagship phones has surged. Additionally, Samsung's rivals such as SK Hynix and Micron have signaled similar adjustments, with several suppliers notifying clients of double-digit increases and temporary limits on new quotes. For buyers, the result is immediate price pressure across server and mobile storage purchases, while for vendors, it is a tactical reprioritization of wafer capacity toward higher-margin, next-generation product lines.
Samsung's DRAM LPDDR4X, LPDDR5, and LPDDR5X families, as well as embedded NAND formats such as eMMC and UFS, are among those experiencing contract uplifts. Meanwhile, shortages in commodity DDR4 briefly pushed spot quotes sharply higher. Memory makers have redirected capacity to DDR5 and HBM, prioritizing HBM orders used by AI accelerators, tightening the supply of consumer-focused DRAM. Samsung, which retains roughly a third of global DRAM and NAND market share, is accelerating development of next-generation LPDDR6 even as it tweaks production schedules for legacy nodes. The pricing reset is expected to materially improve semiconductor division margins in the near term, cushioning against earlier cyclical weakness. For customers, it will force revisions to inventory planning and, likely, a renewed focus on design choices for price/performance.https://tpucdn.com/img/Fd5a2WGby7mogsfi_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/Fd5a2WGby7mogsfi.jpg)

Microsoft recently rolled out its September 2025 Patch update with a KB5065426 code for Windows 11 24H2. However, the patch reportedly produces a very specific bug that prevents some Digital TV and BluRay/DVD applications from playing video. As these applications utilize Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR) with HDCP enforcement or Digital Rights Management (DRM) for digital audio, they may experience various errors, including copyright protection issues, frequent playback interruptions, freezing or black screens, or no video playback at all. Microsoft confirmed the issue on September 19 and is actively working on the fix, which it will roll out in future Windows updates. Microsoft claims that this issue doesn't impact streaming services.
The Enhanced Video Renderer, although still used by some players, has largely been superseded by newer renderers, such as the Simple Video Renderer. Its job in protected playback is to work with Media Foundation and older DirectShow components so decoded frames remain within a trusted rendering path. EVR ensures video is composited only onto Direct3D surfaces that the system treats as secure, preventing decrypted frames from being written to ordinary memory or captured by other software. That coordinated handoff between the media framework, drivers, and the GPU is what lets Windows meet the licensing and output restrictions required for BluRay, broadcast TV, and other DRM-protected formats.https://tpucdn.com/img/U3UBYJa9hC4GF0tk_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/U3UBYJa9hC4GF0tk.jpg)

TSMC is reportedly handling a significant volume of orders, with 15 or more customers designing on its latest "N2" 2 nm node. According to KLA's Ahmad Khan and Bren Higgins, this N2 node is attracting considerable interest, with 10 of these customers focused on high-performance computing (HPC) designs. Potential clients could include Intel, NVIDIA, AMD, and various startups, while the rest may be developing mobile-optimized designs from companies like Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek. "As we're seeing today, the N2 node has about 15 customers working on designs, with around 10 focused on high-performance computing. This is driving rigorous performance requirements," noted KLA's team at a Goldman Sachs conference.
TSMC's N2 node is noted for its high power efficiency and a transistor density of 236.17 million transistors per mm², making it an excellent choice for both HPC/AI and mobile designs. Although TSMC initially planned to implement a backside power delivery network with this node, this feature has been shifted to the A16 node. The N2 will remain a Gate All Around (GAA) FET design to better control transistor gate leakage, moving away from the older FinFET design that has reached its limits with further miniaturization. TSMC has scheduled the commercial launch of the N2 semiconductor node for the second half of 2026, indicating that major technology companies may start adopting this advanced chip technology by early 2027.https://tpucdn.com/img/QkNoE7xcIvxYAjy6_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/QkNoE7xcIvxYAjy6.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/AMyoR3MrWJsr8pl1_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/AMyoR3MrWJsr8pl1.jpg)

US retailer Central Computers listed the ASRock-branded Intel Arc Pro B60 "Battlemage" GPU with 24 GB of GDDR6 memory at a surprisingly low $599, cancelling previous rumors of a four-figure price and OEM-only availability. This retail sighting matters because it frames the B60 as a rare workstation GPU that pairs high memory capacity with an approachable street price, a combination attractive to creatives and engineers working with large models, complex renders, and memory-heavy data sets. The listing also confirms the B60's rumored OEM-only approach is not true, and that we will see broader retail availability, although Intel has not confirmed MSRP or distribution plans publicly. A single retailer listing can be an early indicator rather than proof of wide release. Still, seeing a Battlemage-based card with 24 GB at this price reshapes expectations and invites fresh conversations about how Intel positions the Arc Pro line.
The ASRock Arc Pro B60 Creator features a blower-style cooler, a quoted boost clock of around 2,400 MHz, a 192-bit memory interface that feeds 24 GB of GDDR6 at a bandwidth of 456 GB/s, and a reported 160 XMX AI engines that enhance its INT8 and FP32 capabilities. Compared with the Arc Pro B50, which attracts attention for bringing 16 GB VRAM to a sub-$400 bracket, the B60 expands the viable options for users who need larger frame buffers for complex scenes, high-resolution texture sets, large language model inference, and memory-intensive simulation tasks. If the $599 listing reflects reality and availability broadens, the B60 could become the most accessible 24 GB workstation card, making Intel's entry into the workstation space worthwhile.https://tpucdn.com/img/66ayD7PswhTTzrI6_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/66ayD7PswhTTzrI6.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/y02tfLb7xjDfRddo_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/y02tfLb7xjDfRddo.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/mauL8wn3USQ5ePFC_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/mauL8wn3USQ5ePFC.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/V3yT4y5LJkVkluAP_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/V3yT4y5LJkVkluAP.jpg)

Hades II (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1145350/Hades_II/) has been available as an Early Access Steam game for a while already, and during that time, it has proven its popularity, reaching a peak player count of over 100,000 players. However, on September 25, nearly a full year after the Early Access launch, Hades II has officially launched, with the 1.0 update bringing a host of new features and renewed interest in the hack-n-slash roguelike. As of the time of writing, a mere three hours after the official v1.0 update launched, Hades II has peaked at 84,232 concurrent players, according to SteamDB. Although this is still a fair bit away from its all-time peak of 103,567 players, the game launched on a Thursday morning and evening in the biggest gaming markets, so player counts are expected to increase over the weekend. Hades II already had an Overwhelmingly Positive (97% positive) Steam, but after the release, the game has seen a spike in reviews, with over 900 new positive reviews published just three hours after launch.
Among other things, the Hades II v1.0 update adds a true ending to the story of Melinoë's rebellion against the underworld. Players who played the beta version of the game will also now have access to 50 achievements, unlockable Familiar customizations, updated in-game visuals, new music, and new decorations and collectible Keepsakes. More details about tweaks to gameplay, visuals, sound effects, and customization options are available in the full Steam v1.0 update notes (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1145350/view/512967793587520047). In the v1.0 launch announcement (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1145350/view/596285836987729005), Supergiant says that "it's too early to say what's next for our team," and that, following the launch of Hades II, the development team will take a much-needed break, aside from the usual post-launch hotfixes. Thus, it seems unlikely that any new content will be added to Hades II for at least a short while. Hades II is currently available for $29.99 on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1145350/Hades_II/), and it is also available for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 and Epic Games.https://tpucdn.com/img/aU2Rj5RYQHVTxjOS_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/aU2Rj5RYQHVTxjOS.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/dQuaSUHtNO4PKKlZ_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/dQuaSUHtNO4PKKlZ.jpg)

MagStor, a recognized leader in tape storage solutions, today announced a new line of video surveillance appliances to deliver best-in-class data storage solutions to the Video Surveillance markets.
As video surveillance data requirements explode due to increased retention times and higher resolution video, integrators and end users are struggling with ways to tame the costs. For example, a 50 camera setup at a retail location can generate nearly 500 TB of data over 12 months, forcing users to spend massive amounts on traditional spinning disk or cloud storage. MagStor's new video surveillance appliances provides relief to users seeking more reliable and lower cost storage:https://tpucdn.com/img/LNeoIereNQ0NEzTR_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/LNeoIereNQ0NEzTR.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/xJ5G3rdr44sFbsff_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/xJ5G3rdr44sFbsff.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/MxiQ6zloXioDpRbw_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/MxiQ6zloXioDpRbw.jpg)

Qualcomm only just unveiled the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (https://www.techpowerup.com/341312/qualcomm-unveils-snapdragon-8-elite-gen-5-soc-with-impressive-performance-claims) as its latest flagship mobile SoC, and although there were early Geekbench results presented at the Snapdragon Summit event, the first real-world performance figures are starting to emerge, courtesy of the as-yet unreleased OnePlus 15. These tests, carried out by Geekerwan on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKp3pQGLZ34) mostly center around the Adreno 840 GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which is meant to deliver marked performance improvements, thanks to the inclusion of Snapdragon HPM (High Performance Memory) cache and updated GPU architecture. It's also important to note that these performance results won't necessarily be representative of results on other smartphones, since thermal management is a big determining factor for smartphone performance, especially when it comes to gaming and sustained workloads. The OnePlus device in question is also running pre-release drivers and firmware, so it's possible that more optimizations and performance gains are coming.
The YouTuber tested the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 across five different games (Honkai: Impact 3rd, Wuthering Waves, Honor of Kings, and Delta Force) and compared it to an iPhone 17 Pro Max and a MediaTek Dimensity 9500. The results are rather impressive, as the new Snapdragon SoC manages to keep up with the Apple A19 Pro in the iPhone 17 Pro Max for the most part. He also performed his own Geekbench 6 tests and found that the results presented on Qualcomm's test devices at the Snapdragon Summit were representative of retail devices, with the OnePlus 15 scoring 12,352 points in the multicore benchmark and 3,836 in single-core tests.https://tpucdn.com/img/dwEeHrJLgcrIKO4n_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/dwEeHrJLgcrIKO4n.jpg)

As previously leaked (https://www.techpowerup.com/340310/forza-horizon-6-rumor-tips-imminent-reveal-at-tokyo-game-show), Forza Horizon 6, the latest entry into Xbox Game Studios's racing sim franchise, has been officially announced at the Tokyo Game Show, alongside a short reveal trailer. The reveal and trailer confirms that Forza Horizon 6 will be a PC and Xbox timed exclusive, with a PlayStation 5 port confirmed for a later date. The port will be developed in conjunction with Turn 10 Studios. Horizon 6 is also confirmed to be launching on Steam alongside Xbox and the Microsoft Store, and there is already a Steam page (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2483190/Forza_Horizon_6/) where you can wishlist the game.
The trailer for Forza Horizon 6 doesn't give away much of the game's contents, but it shows off Mount Fuji and the Japanese countryside, implying that the game will feature races on some twisty mountain roads. The Steam Store page confirms that Horizon 6 will once again feature an open world, and the announcement article (https://forza.net/news/forza-horizon-6-reveal) has hinted that exploration and scenery will once again be a large part of the game's allure.https://tpucdn.com/img/q6lAOuV8BqtrIdIv_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/q6lAOuV8BqtrIdIv.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/P6o27A59usQyTf6s_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/P6o27A59usQyTf6s.jpg)

Intel this month released a presentation updating its channel partners and end-users how its Core Ultra 200-series "Arrow Lake-S" desktop processors stack up against AMD Ryzen 9000 series "Zen 5" processors, including the latest 9000X3D series chips with 3D V-Cache. The company claims a superior balance of gaming and productivity performance at comparable prices. These performance claims take into account the various software and microcode updates the platform received since its October 2024 debut—nearing a year in the market—particularly taking into account advances Intel made to its APO (application performance optimization) software in this time.
Intel begins its presentation by layout out its entire Socket LGA1851 desktop processor lineup. The maxed-out Core Ultra 9 8P+16E processors are shown as being competitive to the entire Ryzen 9 9000 series high core-count processors. The Core Ultra 7 265K/KF 8P+12E chips are compared to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which remains the fastest processor for PC gaming. The non-K Core Ultra 7 265 and 265F are compared to the Ryzen 7 9700X. And then the bulk of the Core Ultra 5 6P+8E and 6P+4E lineup is compared to the Ryzen 5 9600X and 9600.https://tpucdn.com/img/7OTU2Zlgqy6dfDr3_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/7OTU2Zlgqy6dfDr3.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/AFACo4B8t2p2nVIz_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/AFACo4B8t2p2nVIz.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/4zHmEHG0QAHFIqyM_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/4zHmEHG0QAHFIqyM.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/Azajxiq8esiY3uCJ_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/Azajxiq8esiY3uCJ.jpg)

TSMC is the only semiconductor maker to move its nodes at incredible speeds from design to mass production. According to Taiwanese media outlet Taipei Times, TSCM is expected to lay the groundwork for Fab 25, a multiphase manufacturing complex planned in Taichung's Central Taiwan Science Park. Company officials say construction will begin in the Q4 of this year and that the first of four planned factories could be finished by 2027, setting the stage for commercial A14 chip production by the end of 2028. The initial funding is large but only as TSMC has prepared 500 billion NTD, roughly $16.38 billion, for the first stage, with many more billions expected as the full site is built out. This push is intended to bring capacity online sooner than anticipated, so customers don't experience any delays.
TSMC executives have denied recent rumors that packaging or U.S. projects are forcing delays to the Taiwan buildout. Technical and operational planning is designed to reduce risk and accelerate volume. TSMC plans to seed A14 production earlier at Phases 3 and 4 of Fab 20 near its Hsinchu R&D campus, while Fab 25 will eventually serve as a dedicated high-volume home for the node. The initial A14 rollout will follow conventional process improvements, with a succeeding A14 Plus or A14P revision expected to introduce additional improvements. Still, advanced packaging remains the tightest constraint for the industry, and a lasting balance between supply and demand is unlikely to appear anytime soon.https://tpucdn.com/img/Ux9UcVCcVEFEtKET_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/Ux9UcVCcVEFEtKET.jpg)

Intel has initiated early-stage discussions with Apple regarding potential investment and collaboration, Bloomberg reports citing industry sources. Team Blue has also approached other companies for similar partnership deals, though no agreements are guaranteed. The Business Korea article suggests that Apple will continue with its custom silicon rather than returning to Intel's processor lineup. The report highlights Apple's reliance on TSMC (https://www.techpowerup.com/341205/tsmc-reportedly-secures-15-customers-for-its-n2-2-nm-node) for chip fabrication and Foxconn for assembly operations in Taiwan, China, and India—things that could pose challenges if U.S. tariffs are reintroduced and if domestic manufacturing demands intensify. MarketWatch analysts suggest Apple's interest focuses primarily on Intel's foundry services as an alternative production source. Given Apple's substantial U.S. manufacturing commitments, supporting Intel could improve the company's relationship with Washington policymakers, the outlet indicates.
Apple recently expanded its domestic investment pledge to $600 billion (https://www.techpowerup.com/339705/apple-increases-us-commitment-to-usd-600-billion-announces-american-manufacturing-program) over four years, up from the previous $500 billion commitment announced at a White House event in August, according to Bloomberg. Intel's investment quest has already attracted significant backing. The U.S. government has taken close to a 10% stake in Intel (https://www.techpowerup.com/340043/u-s-government-to-take-a-10-equity-stake-in-intel) via $10 billion in CHIPS Act funding, while NVIDIA invested $5 billion (https://www.techpowerup.com/341137/nvidias-usd-5b-intel-investment-reveals-x86-gpu-nvlink-project) for a 4% share. Japan's SoftBank contributed $2 billion (https://www.techpowerup.com/340123/softbank-wanted-to-buy-intels-entire-foundry-division-before-settling-for-usd-2b-stake) through its Stargate partnership with OpenAI and Oracle, securing roughly 2%. According to Investopedia, any potential partnership with Apple, particularly one involving foundry investments would reinforce Intel's efforts to reinvigorate its business.https://tpucdn.com/img/uLjWFf6ydCcD4O7H_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/uLjWFf6ydCcD4O7H.jpg)

These panels consolidate several driving elements into a unified IC, reducing costs without sacrificing performance. The company further presented its "UT One" low-power OLED solution, the first of its kind to support a 1 Hz variable refresh rate using Oxide TFT technology. In testing, laptops equipped with UT One panels delivered up to three additional hours of battery life over standard OLED panels. Samsung Display also presented its SmartPower HDR power-saving technology, developed jointly with Intel.
According to Omdia research, OLED displays represented 3% of laptop and monitor shipments in 2024 but are projected to reach 13% by 2029. Samsung Display disclosed that its OLED shipments reached 4.9 million units in the first half of 2024, a 50% year-on-year growth and reached 74% of the market in Q2 2024. Commenting on adoption trends, Executive Vice President Jonghyuk Lee noted that widespread integration of emerging technologies hinges on three elements: innovative user experiences, competitive pricing, and robust ecosystem alliances. The company summarized its strategy as a combination of cost optimization, low-power design innovations, and close cooperation with OEM partners to push OLED further into the mainstream. For end-users, this could result in a wider range of reasonably priced OLED products with better specs and functionality.https://tpucdn.com/img/RxU9XpahcX3Qerkq_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/RxU9XpahcX3Qerkq.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/atXRCW41kJBrX8Cw_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/atXRCW41kJBrX8Cw.jpg)

Intel plans to raise prices on some 13th Generation "Raptor Lake" desktop processors by around 10%, according to DigiTimes. In the fourth quarter, Intel will reportedly adjust contracts to account for the increase. Standard RPL-S SKUs that have traded near $150 to $160 could move to about $170 to $180, driven by tight inventories and rising upstream costs for Intel to maintain older and multiple product portfolios. OEMs claim that constrained inventory ahead of major shopping events leaves them unable to stock competitive holiday deals, forcing hard choices between protecting margins and offering discounts. Even if Intel does not formally announce a hike, limited RPL-S availability combined with surging memory costs is squeezing PC makers. Some top brands report component shortages and reluctance to place long-term orders amid volatile pricing.
Older Raptor Lake parts are benefiting from buyers seeking value, while the latest Core Ultra processors have not created strong consumer demand for AI-enabled PCs. The Core Ultra 200S series has shown slowed market adoption due to its worse initial performance compared to Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh. Some vendors favor cost-effective prior-generation chips to hit aggressive price points, keeping Raptor Lake supply tight despite the parts aging in calendar years. The role of third-party foundries, which continue to support older process nodes, has also extended the lifespan of previous-generation CPUs, altering historical upgrade cycles. Reportedly, some Raptor Lake SKUs cost over $200 less than the latest SKUs, excluding the cost of a new motherboard and the transition from DDR4 to DDR5 memory. With the end of Windows 10 support and the upcoming holiday season, it will be interesting to see how PC makers respond with pricing.https://tpucdn.com/img/su7cxnDeCBRho28N_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/su7cxnDeCBRho28N.jpg)

Photos from Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, courtesy of ComputerBase, confirm the company is pushing advanced packaging format as hard as silicon this generation: the top-tier X2E-96-100 was shown with LPDDR5X memory arrays stacked on-package around an 18-core Oryon 3 cluster. This layout is designed to reduce latency and increase sustained throughput for demanding AI and media workloads. Qualcomm appears to be offering three distinct X2 configurations to balance performance, memory bandwidth, and power: a SiP (system-in-package) Extreme with very wide memory channels for peak sustained bandwidth, plus two off-package variants that rely on narrower channels but still aim for high single-thread and burst performance.
The pictured Extreme SKU, X2E-96-100, is an 18-core part with a minimum of 48 GB and a maximum of 128 GB+ of on-package LPDDR5X memory in a 12-channel configuration, delivering 228 GB/s bandwidth. It features a CPU top clock of around 4.6 GHz with a two-core boost to 5.0 GHz, and a peak GPU clock of near 1.85 GHz. The X2E-88-100 retains the 18 cores but utilizes off-package memory on an 8-channel bus at 152 GB/s, featuring base clocks of nearly 4.0 GHz and a 2-core turbo boost up to 4.7 GHz. The more compact X2E-80-100 drops to 12 cores, also featuring off-package 8-channel memory with a bandwidth of around 152 GB/s, a 4.0 GHz baseline, and single-core and dual-core bursts of up to 4.7 GHz and 4.4 GHz, respectively. The chip is built on a 3 nm node from TSMC and offers up to a dozen PCIe Gen 5 lanes, dual PCIe 5.0 lanes for NVMe, USB4, and 3× USB-C, as well as Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity. It uses a Spectra ISP and an Adreno VPU capable of multi-8K encode/decode and simultaneous 8K workflows.https://tpucdn.com/img/HjdsftaRlOcNNdHi_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/HjdsftaRlOcNNdHi.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/AqTzyxTgVQP7vFcq_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/AqTzyxTgVQP7vFcq.jpg)

Welcome to the last few days of September and the first few days of October, which might be nice if you live in the southern hemisphere. This week is full of Japanese games and the biggest release has something to do with catching creatures, but without the poking. This is followed by a JPRG FPS, a tactical JRPG based on a well known franchise and finally a party-based JPRG. This pivots us to a stop-motion puzzle game and we finally end the week with a touch of Slavic mythology. Don't forget to check out this week's other games, they're not Japanese.
Digimon Story Time Stranger (https://en.bandainamcoent.eu/digimon/digimon-story-time-stranger) / This week's major release / Friday 3 October
Digimon Story Time Stranger is an RPG with monster-taming elements that explores the deep bond between humans and Digimon in an epic story that unravels the mystery of the world's collapse. At this point, it's secret that EA Games has been in a bit of a rough spot lately, with a recent chain of layoffs (https://www.techpowerup.com/336392/ea-reducing-roles-at-codemasters-talent-being-redeployed-across-dev-studios) resulting in the loss of hundreds of staff (https://www.techpowerup.com/336120/new-titanfall-game-axed-by-ea-layoff-cuts-hundreds-of-jobs) and the closure of multiple studios (https://www.techpowerup.com/337444/ea-reportedly-closes-cliffhanger-games-black-panther-project-canceled) over the last two years. Now, it seems as though EA might have found a lifeline, if a recent report by The Wall Street Journal is to be believed. According to the report, a group of private investors, including Silver Lake and the Saudi Public Investment Fund, may be looking to purchase EA with a $50 billion leveraged buyout. The Saudi PIF already owns 9.4% of EA's shares, so a buyout would not be surprising. The news of a potential buyout deal comes just days after EA launched Skate to a lukewarm reception from PC gamers.
The last time rumors about an EA acquisition were doing the rounds, the company's CEO, Andrew Wilson, was quick to dismiss them and play up EA's successful earnings. Of course, the deal is not yet signed, although an announcement is expected within the next week or two. Theoretically, privatization could help EA streamline company decision-making and remove investor pressure, potentially allowing for more agile moves and interesting game releases. As we discussed late last year, EA isn't the only major publicly traded game studio that is seeking a buyout, with rumors previously spreading (https://www.techpowerup.com/329586/rumor-ubisoft-considers-complicated-tencent-buyout-after-strenuous-2024) about Tencent potentially buying out Ubisoft.https://tpucdn.com/img/oSfQNZRJx4M9DdaO_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/oSfQNZRJx4M9DdaO.jpg)

Digital Extremes, the game studio behind hit co-op shooter Warframe, recently hosted a Devstream on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d9eMoCBK44) and revealed that the game's next content would arrive on October 15. The Vallis Undermind, as the update is titled, will be introducing a slew of new content to the game, not the least of which is a new playable warframe for players to unlock and play as. The update will also feature The Deepmines, which is a new playable area located under Orb Vallis and accessible via the Fortuna hub. There are also a host of visual reworks, specifically to the Tenno face visuals and animations. The long-awaited Oberon rework will also be launching on October 15, delivering a total rework of all of his abilities and stats to make him more defensive and allow him to once again act as a more flexible support frame after the companion rework.
Nokko is the latest playable frame to come to the game and the 62nd warframe to launch since the game launched to open beta in March 2013. Aesthetically and in terms of abilities, Nokko follows a mushroom theme, with abilities that involve spreading poisonous, contagious spores, planting a glowing mushroom for a buff, and casting off explosive mushroom projectiles. Nokko can be built using blueprints earned via completing the new Undermined quest and parts farmed from The Deepmines on Fortuna.https://tpucdn.com/img/hzvVsZjd7ST9pIFk_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/hzvVsZjd7ST9pIFk.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/u61BvIAJ9IS6krjV_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/u61BvIAJ9IS6krjV.jpg)

The U.S. government is considering imposing massive tariffs on semiconductor products unless manufacturers can match those volumes with chips produced in the United States. Under the current draft, companies that do not match foreign-sourced chip volumes with domestic output over time could face tariffs that, in some versions, reach 100%. The idea is an act of forceful action to speed up onshore capacity and reduce strategic dependence on overseas foundries, but they also admit that the plan faces serious practical hurdles. The core concept is simple to draft on paper, but hard to implement. For every unit brought into the U.S. from an overseas plant, such as TSMC in Taiwan and Samsung in South Korea, a corresponding unit would need to be produced domestically within a specified timeframe, or tariffs would be applied. This means that for every batch of chips NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, or Apple produce overseas, the same chip would need to be produced in the U.S.
Counting and comparing chip "units" is extremely complicated. Every semiconductor design differs wildly by complexity, cost, and function, and the typical semiconductor supply chain moves wafers, packages, and finished devices across several countries before a product reaches consumers. Even TSMC, the very maker of the chip, sometimes has a hard time confirming if the designs it makes are on the U.S. sanctions list. Like it experienced with Huawei, TSMC couldn't determine that a third-party shell company was ordering Ascend accelerator IP on behalf of Huawei (https://www.techpowerup.com/333877/huawei-obtained-two-million-ascend-910b-dies-from-tsmc-via-shell-companies-to-circumvent-us-sanctions)—which sits on the U.S. blacklist—even with advanced detection tools. Officials are reportedly considering transitional credits and carve-outs for companies that commit to building U.S. fabs, which would allow them to import while new plants come online. Even with those credits, a question arises about how to compare a million small mobile processors against a million high-performance data center accelerators.https://tpucdn.com/img/wqTBSPjGFBBFj57E_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/wqTBSPjGFBBFj57E.jpg)

Since the launch of the Steam Deck, Valve has been hard at work polishing its Arch-based Linux distro, SteamOS, for both its own gaming handheld and, more recently, third-party gaming handhelds. With the launch of the SteamOS 3.7.15 update (https://steamcommunity.com/games/1675200/announcements/detail/498333631688737192), Valve has taken steps to correct a handful of gaming handheld issues. Most of the updates are bug fixes and quality of life updates, rather than new features, but there are also a number of security updates included that patch out known CVEs. This follows recent news about the official full release of the new Steam Store redesign (https://www.techpowerup.com/341311/steam-store-redesign-exits-beta-brings-improved-discoverability-menu-and-search-ui) and the Steam beta (https://www.techpowerup.com/341305/latest-steam-beta-adds-secure-boot-and-tpm-checks-for-new-anti-cheat-implementations) that adds support for detecting Secure Boot and TPM states for modern anti-cheat solutions. Overall, Valve seems to be working towards getting SteamOS in a state that is both user-friendly and stable in an attempt to attract and keep as many users on its platform as possible.
For the Steam Deck, the clock and power limits and Wi-Fi connection should more reliably return to their configured states after the device wakes from sleep, and the battery charge estimation has been improved. Wake-on-Bluetooth support has also been returned to all versions of the Steam Deck with support for BLE peripherals—which should prove handy when the handheld is docked. The built-in screen reader also now has multi-language support, and there are a number of audio improvements. For starters, the Steam Deck's volume will no longer jump to 100% when removing wired headphones, the Deck will now also automatically switch to USB audio devices when detected, and audio distortion in the built-in microphone has also been removed. Valve has also removed the Pro Audio profile from the KDE desktop mode—an anti-feature many Linux users will be aware of because it simply disables audio when you select it.https://tpucdn.com/img/7jWbfQ1iet6cN1Js_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/7jWbfQ1iet6cN1Js.jpg)
