We always had more Middle-earth keyboards in us. We just had to get back on the horse. For our latest release, we mean that in more ways (and more boards) than one. Meet the Drop + The Lord of the Rings Rohan Keyboard (https://drop.com/buy/drop-the-lord-of-the-rings-rohan-keyboard): a heroic typing staple sent from our stables in two styles, each inspired by the kingdom of horsemasters. Choose from the brown Edoras or the green Aldburg, named after the Riddermark's two biggest cities—and adorned with pad-printed artwork from OSHETART depicting a Rohan-inspired seal your entire desk can rally around.

MUSTER THE ROHIRRIM—IN 2 COLORWAYS
And like the great gathering of the Rohirrim before the Battle of the Pelennor Fields—these keyboards are sporting something of an army themselves. That army comes in the form of a newly created DCD-profile keycap set (in matching green or brown) featuring a host of Rohan-inspired novelties designed by OSHETART—including galloping horses, a cavalry helmet, the beacons of Minas Tirith, and iconography from Anglo Saxon culture: an inspiration for Rohan. Throw in tactile Holy Panda X Switches paired with our nearly silent Phantom Stabilizers, and you're ready to type—type now, for ruin, and the world's ending.https://tpucdn.com/img/PUTeI4pMI2m234Ml_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/PUTeI4pMI2m234Ml.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/jO40WiJ9gLlKHoiV_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/jO40WiJ9gLlKHoiV.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/Abt3DjLZe8PEeLPZ_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/Abt3DjLZe8PEeLPZ.jpg)

Developer 2:12 experienced a grim summertime last year—their "Twinsen's Little Big Adventure" reboot was canned due to lack of publisher interest (https://www.techpowerup.com/311909/2-12-cancels-twinsens-little-big-adventure-reboot), and members of the team were—unfortunately—let go. CEO Ben Limare outlined a Plan B that pivoted on 2:12's ongoing remaster projects: "(we will) channel our focus and energy into the remastered version of Twinsen's Little Big Adventure (TLBA Remastered). We will explore whether we can reincorporate the reboot's ideas into the remaster, but that's a conversation for another time." Securing a publishing deal for said remaster was a key goal, and this seems to have been achieved according to a pre-Christmas 2023 announcement.

Limare shared the good news, although he stopped short of naming the game's new financier: "after months of hard work behind the scenes, we are thrilled to share a great piece of news: we have a publisher! Twinsen is (really) back! Our first collaboration will be the remake of Twinsen's Little Big Adventure Classic...yes, you read that right: a remake!" 2:12 released a late December update that explained the scope of this slightly rejigged remake. NVIDIA has recently revised its specification sheet for the upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER GPU (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-4070-super.c4186)—a small mistake was included in their review guide and marketing material. Team Green workers were likely in a rush to get everything ready for RTX 40xx SUPER range's official unveiling at CES 2024 (https://www.techpowerup.com/317679/feast-your-eyes-on-these-nvidia-geforce-rtx-40-series-super-cards-well-be-reviewing-most-of-these), so a typo here and there is not unexpected. The RTX 4070 SUPER's AD104 GPU (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/nvidia-ad104.g1013) configuration was advertised as offering a 20% core count upgrade over the vanilla RTX 4070 (non-SUPER), but detail sensitive sleuths were somewhat puzzled with the SUPER's L2 cache designation of 36 MB. Various 2023 leaks suggested that 48 MB was the correct value; representing a 33% jump up from the standard 4070's L2 pool. We must note that TPU's GPU database had the correct spec entry since day one.https://tpucdn.com/img/3SsN85w2svkTaUG7_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/3SsN85w2svkTaUG7.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/Co8QBDaF9vdOGS1z_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/Co8QBDaF9vdOGS1z.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/jfxXxgF7N8mopokH_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/jfxXxgF7N8mopokH.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/knrwAuCmRIUN2zwO_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/knrwAuCmRIUN2zwO.jpg)

TPU turned up for a second visit at Dangbei's demo room as things were wrapping at this week's Las Vegas trade show—where Vahid checked out the Chinese brand's flagship projectors. Their Mars Pro 2 model represents the "next dimension in 4K laser home cinema"—it offers 2450 lumens of performance, two 12 W DTS:X-enhanced speakers, and marks the debut of HDR10+ in a Dangbei home cinema projector. The Mars Pro 2 is also capable of producing three 3D modes.

The Dangbei X5 Ultra is another high-end 4K Ultra HD in the company's stable—it also is their first model to be fitted with a full-color LED hybrid light source system. The latest upgrade—ALPD 5.0 technology—assists in covering 110% of the BT.2020 color gamut with great accuracy, and to hit a maximum brightness of 2500 lumens. Integrated sound is produced by a pair of 12 W DTS:X-enhanced speakers. Dangbei is targeting an international launch this year, but buyers in their native market have already spent time with the X5 Ultra triple-laser projector.https://tpucdn.com/img/9BowpqyPOCrBA073_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/9BowpqyPOCrBA073.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/17gWeu7vBPY1DsNW_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/17gWeu7vBPY1DsNW.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/eBOoNcODyVRVsqyi_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/eBOoNcODyVRVsqyi.jpg)

More performance also for RX 7800 XT GPUs! With the Eisblock Aurora cooler, Alphacool presents an innovative solution for active water cooling of Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics cards with reference design. In close cooperation with AMD board partners, numerous optimizations have been made to the water cooler in order to dissipate the enormous waste heat of this graphics card generation in the most effective way. The adapted fin structure enables optimum water flow while increasing the cooling surface at the same time. The modified jet plate with improved inflow engine ensures the best possible distribution of water on the cooling fins. The fully chrome-plated copper base is resistant to acids, scratches and damage. In addition, the chrome plating provides evenness and shine that cannot be achieved by nickel plating.

The Eisblock cooler has not only been technically improved: the Aurora design of the Radeon RX 7XXX Eisblock generation is visually calm and simple, as only one O-ring surrounds the entire cooler. In addition, the design around the cooling fins and the jetplate ensures a clearer look. Thanks to the chrome plating, the illumination of the digitally addressable RGB LEDs unleashes an impressive flood of light in the cooler. Worldwide semiconductor revenue in 2023 totaled $533 billion, a decrease of 11.1% from 2022, according to preliminary results by Gartner, Inc.

"While the cyclicality in the semiconductor industry was present again in 2023, the market suffered a difficult year with memory revenue recording one of its worst declines in history," said Alan Priestley, VP Analyst at Gartner. "The underperforming market also negatively impacted several semiconductor vendors. Only 9 of the top 25 semiconductor vendors posted revenue growth in 2023, with 10 experiencing double-digit declines."

The combined semiconductor revenue of the top 25 semiconductor vendors declined 14.1% in 2023, accounting for 74.4% of the market, down from 77.2% in 2022.https://tpucdn.com/img/2KuhsvgjLeB7q3Py_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/2KuhsvgjLeB7q3Py.jpg)

In a surprising turn of events, SK Hynix has hinted at the possibility of the Compression Attached Memory Module (CAMM) standard, initially designed for laptops, being introduced to desktop PCs. This revelation came from a comment made by an SK Hynix representative at the CES 2024 in Las Vegas for the Korean tech media ITSubIssub (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbQLbDV7DN4). According to the SK Hynix representative, the first implementation is underway, but there are no specific details. CAMM, an innovative memory standard developed by Dell in 2022, was certified to replace SO-DIMM as the official standard for laptop memory. However, the transition to desktop PCs could significantly disrupt the desktop memory market. The CAMM modules, unlike the vertical DRAM sticks currently in use, are horizontal and are screwed into a socket. This design change would necessitate a complete overhaul of the desktop motherboard layout.

The thin, flat design of the CAMM modules could also limit the number that can be installed on an ATX board. However, the desktop version of the standard CAMM2 was announced by JEDEC just a month ago. It is designed for DDR5 memory, but it is expected to become mainstream with the introduction of DDR6 around 2025. While CAMM allows for higher speeds and densities for mobile memory, its advantages for desktops over traditional memory sticks are yet to be fully understood. Although low-power CAMM modules could offer energy savings, this is typically more relevant for mobile devices than desktops. As we move towards DDR6 and DDR7, more information about CAMM for desktops will be needed to understand its potential benefits. JEDEC's official words on the new standard indicate that "DDR5 CAMM2s are intended for performance notebooks and mainstream desktops, while LPDDR5/5X CAMM2s target a broader range of notebooks and certain server market segments." So, we can expect to see CAMM2 in both desktops and some server applications.https://tpucdn.com/img/oi217KAs9L2qOiKL_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/oi217KAs9L2qOiKL.jpg)

Microsoft has reportedly set 16 GB as the minimum system requirement for AI PCs, a TrendForce market research report finds. To say that Microsoft has a pivotal role to play in PC hardware specs is an understatement. This year sees the introduction of the first "AI PCs," or PCs with on-device AI acceleration for several new features native to Windows 11 23H2, mainly Microsoft Copilot. From the looks of it, Copilot is receiving the highest corporate attention from Microsoft, as the company looks to integrate the AI chatbot that automates and generates work, into the mainstream PC. In fact, Microsoft is even pushing for a dedicated Copilot button (https://www.techpowerup.com/317358/microsoft-copilot-becomes-a-dedicated-key-on-windows-powered-pc-keyboards) on PC keyboards along the lines of the key that brings up the Start menu. The company's biggest move with Copilot will be the 2024 introduction of Copilot Pro, an AI assistant integrated with Office and 365, which the company plans to sell on a subscription basis alone.

Besides cloud-based acceleration, Microsoft's various AI features will rely on some basic hardware specs for local acceleration. One of them of course is the NPU, with Intel's AI Boost and AMD's Ryzen AI being introduced with their latest mobile processors. The other requirement will be memory. AI acceleration is a highly memory sensitive operation, and LLMs require a sizable amount of fast frequent-access memory. So Microsoft arrived at 16 GB as the bare minimum amount of memory for not just native acceleration, but also cloud-based Copilot AI features to work. This should see the notebooks of 2024 set 16 GB as their baseline memory specs; and for commercial notebooks to scale up to 32 GB or even 64 GB, depending on organizational requirements. The development bodes particularly well for the DRAM industry.https://tpucdn.com/img/OjQ7xRNiswHYg8S5_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/OjQ7xRNiswHYg8S5.jpg)

With NVIDIA's Ampere and Hopper GPUs enjoying a domination in the AI acceleration industry, compute companies are turning to AMD's Instinct CDNA series accelerators to look for alternatives. It seems like they've found one. This has financial market analysts excited, causing the AMD company stock to hit near record highs. AMD recently launched the Instinct MI300X and MI300A processors based on the CDNA 3 architecture, which the company claims beat NVIDIA's H100 "Hopper" processors at competitive prices, which has encouraged analysts from major financial institutions, including Barclays, KeyBanc Capital, and Susquehanna Financial Group, to increase their price targets for the AMD stock. As of market closure at Jan 17, 7:59:56 PM UTC, the AMD stock stood at $160.17, near its November 2021 record high of $164.46.

AMD's data center business looks to ramp up Instinct CDNA accelerators through 2024. These large chiplet-based GPUs are based on the same 5 nm TSMC foundry nodes to NVIDIA's H100 "Hopper," and to maximize the use of its foundry allocation, it's been reported (https://www.techpowerup.com/312116/amd-retreating-from-enthusiast-graphics-segment-with-rdna4) that AMD might even forego large gaming GPUs based on its Radeon RX RDNA4 architecture, to maximize its allocation for high-margin CDNA3 chips. The Instinct MI300X features a colossal 304 compute units worth 19,456 stream processors capable of AI-relevant math formats, and 192 GB of 8192-bit HBM3 memory, with 5.2 TB/s of memory bandwidth on tap.https://tpucdn.com/img/JeMyMk4ouODo32CY_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/JeMyMk4ouODo32CY.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/ie2vjCWVSPJpevHy_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/ie2vjCWVSPJpevHy.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/brkR3QrX7tmNA5BI_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/brkR3QrX7tmNA5BI.jpg)

Official support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3), including support for Frame Generation, has been extended to Call of Duty Modern Warfare III and Warzone, though their latest game patch. This adds FSR 3 as an option, which lets you choose between five performance presets—Ultra Performance, Performance, Balanced, Quality, and Native; with Native being analogous to NVIDIA's DLAA preset—a quality enhancement at native resolution, without upscaling. With the "AMD FSR 3.0" upscaling/sharpening option selection, you also get Frame Generation as a separate toggle, which nearly doubles frame rates using AMD's interpolation technology.

Call of Duty MW:III and Warzone are arguably the biggest game franchise to implement FSR 3 so far. The list of officially supported FSR 3 titles is small, with just five other titles that include Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Forspoken, Immortals of Aveum, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name; and Motorcubs RC; however, with AMD posting the FSR 3 source code to GPUOpen, the game modding community is all over the feature (https://www.techpowerup.com/317060/now-enable-fsr-3-in-fsr-2-games-with-new-leaked-mod), extending unofficial FSR 3 and Frame Generation mods to games not on this list. It's worth noting that the latest CoD MW:III patch has FSR 3 replace the FSR 2.1 option entirely.https://tpucdn.com/img/uELm7Med8jKIy8e7_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/uELm7Med8jKIy8e7.jpg)

A recent episode of XboxEra's podcast aired some interesting insider information about "Project Tatanka"—games industry spies believe that developer, Certain Affinity (https://www.certainaffinity.com/games/halo/), initiated development of a Halo Battle Royale project at some point in 2020. The studio is best known for its ancillary work on many Call of Duty and Halo sequels—the most recent entry on their CV is Halo Infinite, a co-production with Microsoft's 343 Industries. The rumor mill proposes that work on "Project Tatanka" has ended prematurely, although early 2023 insights allege that Certain Affinity was instructed to take the shooter in a different direction. Many news sites have cited XboxEra Podcast episode no. 194 and its hosts as the origin of fresh cancellation claims. Jon "Sikamikanico" Clarke, co-founder and Editor in Chief of XboxEra, was not amused by these allegations (https://xboxera.com/2024/01/16/halos-battle-royale-spin-off-is-cancelled-according-to-xboxeras-nick-baker/).

Clarke's response stated: "What's hilarious to me, and certainly a big surprise to Nick (Shpeshal_Nick), is that this was a simple conversation, on the show, where we talking about someone else's (YouTuber ColtEastwood) discussion on a podcast...What's even more amusing is I even make a joke about overreactions to a rumored game..."we don't know—it's just the scuttlebutt out there. What's really depressing in all of this is that we're discussing someone else's discussion, and all the headlines at the other end are effectively 'Nick Baker reports Tatanka cancelled.' This is factually wrong. If we had corroborated, verifiable evidence and detail on this, I think it's pretty likely we'd do a report ourselves. We don't, so we haven't. There's a reason it's just a discussion on the podcast."https://tpucdn.com/img/HBdtZF3jK63o3cnq_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/HBdtZF3jK63o3cnq.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/w7acrwpFyr8E0ezO_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/w7acrwpFyr8E0ezO.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/7NHPEfHVfgyQY2PZ_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/7NHPEfHVfgyQY2PZ.jpg)

Last week Patrick Moorhead, CEO and founder of Moor Insights & Strategy, shared his insider sourced thoughts (https://moorinsightsstrategy.com/research-notes/research-note-arms-blackhawk-cpu-is-an-audacious-plan-to-have-the-best-smartphone-cpu-core-this-year/) about ARM's next generation Cortex-X processor: "Blackhawk is planned to enable in smartphones shipping at the end of 2024. I think phones could be on the shelf a year from now at CES or maybe MWC." Moorhead believes that Cortex-X4's successor will be the most powerful option available at launch, which forms part of (ARM CEO) Rene Haas's strategy to "eliminate the performance gap between ARM-designed processors and custom ARM implementations." He believes that "this is a big and bold claim," since Apple is widely considered to rule the roost here with its cutting edge ARM-based Bionic designs. Moorhead's inside information has "Blackhawk" demonstrating the "largest year-over-year IPC performance increase in 5 years" citing undisclosed Geekbench 6 results.

He also presented evidence that the artificial intelligence processing is a key focus: "I am hopeful these performance goals translate to app performance as well. ARM also believes that Blackhawk will provide "great" LLM performance. I will assume that this has to do with big CPU IPC performance improvements as ARM says that its Cortex CPU is the #1 AI target for developers...The NPU and GPU can be an efficient way to run AI, but a CPU is the easiest and most pervasive way, which is why developers target it. A higher-performing CPU obviously helps here, but as the world moves increasingly to smaller language models, Arm's platform with higher-performing CPU and GPU combined with its tightly integrated ML libraries and frameworks will likely result in a more efficient experience on devices."https://tpucdn.com/img/19NdxPtWIt4bq9xO_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/19NdxPtWIt4bq9xO.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/j5XMiDXW2ni26h9x_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/j5XMiDXW2ni26h9x.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/tvi7wGKugbmQPZd8_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/tvi7wGKugbmQPZd8.jpg)

Hyperkin has revealed another prototype throwback gaming system that is bound to hit you in the nostalgia cortex—their "Mega 95" appears to be a Sega counterpart to the retro specialist's already released SupaBoy (a portable Nintendo SNES). The Verge's news section (https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/9/24029916/sega-genesis-emulator-cartridges-handheld-hyperkin-95-mega-drive) seems to serve as Hyperkin's first port of call when debuting early hardware—the "DuchesS (https://www.techpowerup.com/317888/hyperkin-modernizing-xbox-controller-s-design-dubbed-duchess)" proof of concept controller was introduced in a similar manner last week. The report presents Hyperkin's MegaRetroN HD Gaming Console (https://hyperkinstore.com/megaretron-hd-gaming-console---hyperkin/) as the Mega 95's technological basis—with its ability to read original Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game cartridges. The prototype functions as a handheld hybrid system—Hyperkin has been inspired by Nintendo's Switch console. A USB-C docking station grants gamers the ability to plug the Mega 95 into a TV, with support for additional wired controllers.

A 5-inch screen can display 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio content (likely via software toggling), and battery life is said to last around 10 hours on a full charge. The Verge observed that the Mega 95 could become a modern successor to Sega's quirky Genesis Nomad (https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/11/hardware_classics_the_sega_genesis_nomad) portable console. The Japanese multinational video game and entertainment company flooded the market with all sorts of oddly revised 16-bit gaming systems and 32-bit add-ons around the mid-1990s. Nomad was Sega's final portable gaming system—it arrived back in 1995 as a region-locked product for the North American market. Sales topped off at ~1 million units, in retrospect it is considered to be a commercial bomb.https://tpucdn.com/img/UDAFDGaOrHwrocyK_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/UDAFDGaOrHwrocyK.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/oFiEVzoBYFgLshYy_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/oFiEVzoBYFgLshYy.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/U7Se80FN0KfCblkT_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/U7Se80FN0KfCblkT.jpg)

A conglomerate of Japanese hardware outlets has tested Intel's latest batch of Raptor Lake Refresh desktop processors—their findings arrived in the form of a YouTube video (viewable below). The lowly Intel 300 (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/236846/intel-processor-300-6m-cache-up-to-3-90-ghz/specifications.html) CPU was sampled as part of PAD's lab tests—this 14th generation model serves as a natural successor to Team Blue's Pentium Gold G7400 (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/219435/intel-pentium-gold-g7400-processor-6m-cache-3-70-ghz.html) processor. Pentium and Celeron brands were retired in the "essential product space" (https://www.techpowerup.com/298952/intel-kills-celeron-and-pentium-branding-with-new-intel-processor-naming-scheme) in 2022, along with the introduction of a replacement: simple "Intel Processor" in a light blue color scheme.

Expectations are not set very high for a two-core, 4-thread CPU in modern times—some news outlets believe that this an Alder Lake part (AKA a frequency tweaked Pentium Gold G7400 (https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/intel-300-cpu-benchmarks-unsurprisingly-show-dual-core-cpus-struggling-in-2024)), despite being launched alongside many Raptor Lake Refresh parts. The Intel 300 sports two Raptor Cove P-cores with hyper-threading capabilities—base performance is set at 3.9 GHz, with no provisions for boosting above that figure. The rest of its basic specs consist of a 46 W TDP and 6 MB of L3 cache (3 MB on each core). Team Blue's Core i3-14100 (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/236774/intel-core-i3-processor-14100-12m-cache-up-to-4-70-ghz/specifications.html) quad core CPU sits just above the 300 in the latest batch of 14th Gen—naturally, the former pulls ahead of the latter in synthetic benchmarks. PC Watch and Co. tests present a maximum 55% multi-core performance gap between the two lower end options, although the single-threaded difference was measured 13% (in Cinebench).https://tpucdn.com/img/1MFPUAqY3yncEgUR_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/1MFPUAqY3yncEgUR.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/4j2bpUcAR4tnuHmc_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/4j2bpUcAR4tnuHmc.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/QZzS8vp26A8D8wBN_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/QZzS8vp26A8D8wBN.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/3OqyzDxrtbny39Ir_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/3OqyzDxrtbny39Ir.jpg)

It's been almost 30 years since Lara Croft took her first snowy steps in the mountains of Peru. In about 30 days, console and PC players will get to re-experience Lara's first three globe-trotting adventures, with a fresh look and feel in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered (https://core-design.com/remasters/index.html) on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC. How did we get here? That story takes us to Austin, TX in 1998.

Aspyr & Lara go way back
A burgeoning video game company, Aspyr (https://www.aspyr.com/about), launches Tomb Raider II on Macintosh computers. Aspyr continued with the Tomb Raider franchise until 2003, launching Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider III, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. We've always wanted to revisit these titles, but we always debated the right approach. For years, we worked through the right balance of preservation and modernization. And once we felt we nailed it, we got in touch with our friends at Crystal Dynamics.https://tpucdn.com/img/6s8FrLOnMRTui7RE_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/6s8FrLOnMRTui7RE.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/aGXiKqcBS5R2fHZf_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/aGXiKqcBS5R2fHZf.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/w0YsATppZczZIC0Q_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/w0YsATppZczZIC0Q.jpg)

Last week, Doc TB (https://twitter.com/d0cTB/status/1746220396846645313) acted as a spokesperson for an updated version of everyone's favorite lightweight open source memory testing tool: "We have released Memtest86+ v7! ???? Now with live RAM settings displayed (supported on Core 1st to 14th Gen & AMD Ryzen CPUs) and preliminary ECC support (supported on some Ryzen CPUs). Give it a try at memtest.org (https://memtest.org/) ????." Version 6.0 of Memtest86+, issued back in 2022 (https://www.techpowerup.com/293282/memtest86-6-00-update-promised-for-this-summer), was a complete overhaul (courtesy of dev. Martin Whitaker) that revived the irregularly updated FOSS tool's fortunes. Recent media coverage has presented a more optimistic view of Memtest86+ (not to be confused with Passmark's similarly titled app)—several articles propose that a consistent release of future updates is feasible. Version 7.0's changelog documents a good number of highlighted improvements, including: "IMC polling for live RAM settings, preliminary support for ECC polling (on a selection of Ryzen CPUs), added support for MMIO UART, debugging options, plus various bug fixes & optimizations."https://tpucdn.com/img/Lk6MWIgrFPnc5ML3_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/Lk6MWIgrFPnc5ML3.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/rITv19xpFOhW1b0k_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/rITv19xpFOhW1b0k.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/hL6eLOMtBFFqKOUf_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/hL6eLOMtBFFqKOUf.jpg)

It's going to be a good year for Xbox players. At this week's Developer_Direct show, we provided deep-dives into five new games launching across Xbox Series X|S, PC, Game Pass and/or cloud—all of which will arrive later in 2024. Development teams at Xbox, Bethesda, and even one of our third-party partners invited you into their studios to showcase extended gameplay, reveal key information, and more. Members of each development team gave us a look into their creation, with new information, and offered a tantalizing glimpse of what's to come this year. All four of these games will arrive on day one with Game Pass, and will contribute to what's going to be another huge year for members, delivering incredible games throughout 2024.

Avowed—Launching Fall 2024
Avowed (https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/avowed) Game Director Carrie Patel gave us a first deep-dive into the gameplay in Obsidian (https://www.obsidian.net/games/avowed)'s upcoming fantasy action RPG, from its dynamic combat, to its thoughtful reactivity, to its "colorful, vibrant, strange" world set in the Living Lands. Avowed continues Obsidian's signature style of creating games with deep themes and player choice at the forefront. Not only will you make narrative decisions that can impact changes in the game down the line, but Avowed is also looking to offer choice in combat. Gameplay Director Gabe Paramo discussed not only how varied your weaponry will be - with melee weapons, ranged guns and bows, and magic-based wands (even dual-wielded wands!) to name a few—but how flexible combat can be, allowing you to quickly change loadouts for enemy encounters. Swappable loadouts mean you can approach combat however feels right to you.https://tpucdn.com/img/3mH9fr2dGH0C7oAV_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/3mH9fr2dGH0C7oAV.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/HT4skj0mb1wDK8gh_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/HT4skj0mb1wDK8gh.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/237E657dexwGOo9s_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/237E657dexwGOo9s.jpg) https://tpucdn.com/img/2P1hhcbl5cmtSc4N_thm.jpg (https://www.techpowerup.com/img/2P1hhcbl5cmtSc4N.jpg)
